To be fair, it was you Americans who called the Vespucci "the most beautiful ship in the world" (we think so without saying it), precisely it was the USS Independence (in 1962), that used those words when it crossed the Vespucci on the Mediterranean Sea. Reiterated again in 2022, when the USS George H.W. Bush (quoting the 1962 words) asked, "are you the Italian Navy's sailing ship Amerigo Vespucci?" (after the obvious answer) the Commander Pollard repeated "after 60 years you're still the most beautiful ship in the world." 🍺

Just a correction America was named after an Italian not by an Italian. The first person who called the continent America was the German cartographer Martin Waldseemüller and the name spread with his works so it stuck.

I haven't been on the Vespucci, but i went over the Palinuro and the carrier Garibaldi which will soon be scrapped. Also the Vespucci is still used as a school ship for the Morosini naval school. I even tried a test for that school but didn't get admitted. Still, i hope to visit the vespucci soon!

Actually that comment about the Vespucci's beauty came spontaneously from the commander of a US Navy carrier that encountered the ship on full sails while crossing the Atlantic ocean. I think it was some time in the 50's.

Fue un impostor. Colón viajó con la información obtenida de un naufrago en Madeira. No era un gran navegante, tuvo que apoyarse en Pinzón para realizar su viaje, en el que por cierto no había un solo italiano.

che poi, scoperto un nuovo continente..... In realtà i nativi ci tenevano i piedi sopra da una vita, per cui Vespucci non poteva nemmeno rivendicare di averci messo il primo piede sopra tipo Armstrong sulla Luna. Solo che siccome la storia la fanno i vincitori, dal punto di vista dell'Europa è stata scoperta l'America. Comunque un'impresa per l'Italia e quella nave è stupenda.
