I bought 30' of these covers and was going to return them because I didn't think they fit. Then I watched your video and know how to install them correctly. Thanks for saving me a trip.
Ive had these up for a few years now and still good. I overlapped the ends for stability, because they will sag at these points if you dont. I also installed mine screen side down. I feel that the plastic side up, the rain coming off the roof will catch the edges of the holes and keep the water in the gutter, opposed to the screen side up where water tends to slide over the gutter. Also a reason I put the screen side down is that the screen fabric has a lot of loose non glued edges. If I were going to put these screen up, I would put a dab of good silicone on a finger and run it along the loose edges to adhere the screen to the plastic underneath. I also use the downspout screens. No matter what type you use, you will eventually have to get the gunk that builds up in the gutter, Its the small dust and tiny dirt particles that get through. Its just sludge.
I bought these because it was inexpensive compared to others. They are easy. My only problem was that my shingles were tabbed down really well and a bit hard to lift. It was a cool day.. They'd come up easier when it's warm. You can also cut 1/2 inch off the end of the snap-in strip to make an overlapped seam.
Heavy rains, the water rolls of the roof and right over the screen. Doesn't get into the gutter. Had to remove the screen and that helped slow the run off over the gutter. Still have some run over.
I have valleys in my roof that come down to a corner there are splash guards to keep the water from over running the gutter. The issue I have is that this fills with debris and clogs the leaf guard and the water comes over the splash guards. How do I fix this?
In my case, water ran over them too much, but i only had 5 inch gutters. They may work better with 6 inch. They also fall down in the gutters occasionally.
Almost a year and I haven't had to clean my gutters. Survived autumn with tons of leaves. Recently climbed up to inspect, and everything looks great. Still very happy with that purchase!
My roof is steeper than yours. The pinestraw collapsed the covers within a year. I cleaned them off once but the pinestraw just piles up on them because of that lip and because they curve in a little when I put them on because of the steep slope of my roof. Yes, I have them installed correctly, screen on top. Defeats the purpose of gutter covers if you have to clean off the gutter covers. Look at the Amerimax video. When he puts them on you see how they curve a little down into the gutter. This is where the pinestraw begins to collects eventually pulling the covers out from under the shingles and into the gutter. I have video...
It's now been six years since you've installed Amerimax gutter guards. How are they holding up? Have you had to clean your gutters since you installed it?
I've not had to do any maintenance on my gutters since installing these. Recently, while up on a ladder painting trim, I pulled back the last piece to see how the downspout was looking. It was clear.
Yes I've had some crazy storms and the guards do well. Not too much overflow/waterfall off the roof. It's been roughly one year now, and I'm very happy with these.
Is is really a good idea to slide ANYTHING under the edge of the shingles? Wouldn't capillary action draw water under the shingles and onto the decking? I bought these same guards but didn't realize that you have to install them under the shingle edge. Will be taking them back.
Haven't found them to be easy to snap in. If using the Amerimax hidden gutter brackets you need to notch the front edge to be able to use them and, as in the Amerimax video, they may be easy to cut across the filter material with a scissors but the snap-in edge is hard to cut.
Mine are still up, and look fine. That was June 2016. I'm in North Carolina and the house gets direct sunlight for almost the entire day. Hot summers and all, they look the same as when I put them up.
I just dont understand what went wrong. I installed these slowly and precisely under the shingles and snapped them into place. They look consistent all the way across the gutter. There is a light steady rain outside and the water is just running off the roof, over the gutter guard and cascading down on the ground. Very little rain is being caught in the gutters. I just dont understand. And yes the gutters and drain spouts are cleaned out and not plugged. Unless I am doing something wrong, this product has completely failed for me. I have different gutter hangers then in the video that cannot be snapped back into place after the gutter guard is installed. I will have to check and see if the whole gutter has spun forward creating a pitch for the water to run over the guard. I also installed the roof side of the guard all the way under the first course of shingles. Perhaps that is incorrect? Anyone run into this or have any thoughts on my post? Thanks.
Is your roof a standard pitch/slope, or is it one of those steep roofs? That's one idea I had... Do you have any extra pieces? What happens if you try pouring some water through one? Does it pass right through? I'm wondering if they were either made wrong or something? I get insane downpours, especially in summer months, and water has never poured over the guards and off the roof.
@@Films128 The roof is a standard pitch. I simulated a rain runoff with my garden hose this morning. I did observe the water go right over the guard and onto the ground. Later Im going to take a leftover piece and run water through it over a sink and observe. I will post those findings.
@@Films128 Same results over a sink. If I hold the piece horizontal, the water goes straight through. If I recreate the angle of the roof, it pours right over. My final thought, it must be the pitch of my roof.
Not as easy as shown! Same gutter guards used but tried installing on front of house & shingles did not simply pull up easily- it's summertime, sun gets to be 85 degrees out & shingles are hot & basically glued to house. secondly, they don't all snap into gutter so effortlessly- Many tank two hands to squeeze very hard to snap one side to feel the other end suddenly pops off. Gutters also have bars every few feet & it's hard to have guards snap into gutters where those are located inside gutters for support. So, install on Cool days so shingles lift easier. carry a set of plyers yo make adjustments to get guards to easily snap on better while up on a ladder etc
Very true comments, and great advice. There were a few in the back of house... By the end, my fingers were blistering red from squeezing these things into place. Some slide on super easy. Others not so much. They're still in great shape though, since posting this video. So it's worth the effort and money in my opinion.
New gutter guards are GARBAGE. Most of the reviews and videos are 3-5 years old when the gutter guards were Ok. Amerimax no longer glues the mesh the full length of the gutter guard. Now its cheaply glued every 6 inches and the mesh easily pulls up off the guard.
