In this video, I test the Amiga "MiniMig Core" on the Terasic DE10 -Nano FPGA Development Board running MisTer.
I have installed Amiga OS 3.1 " Classic Workbench" but I still have some thinking to do to get it set up correctly.

Lol, the Amiga port of "Golden Axe" shall henceforth be known as "Gauntlet". Anybody calling it something different is wrong, ETA Prime has spoken. XD (just teasing you man, keep up the good work.)

LOL I seriously didn’t even notice this till you said something! I was playing gauntlet before I started recording. Also for some reason I always call killzone for PSP Fallout for some reason.

The real reason why you were "terrible" at Turrican 2: You didn't know about the secondary fire and other attacks. Fire1 held down for 1-2 seconds you can lay down a 360 degree rapid attack. Fire2 works in this game (if you don't have a secondary fire button on your controller, use spacebar on keyboard). Either 1. fire2 alone 2. hit down and fire2 3. whilst rolling, hit fire1 and fire2.

Got my DE-10 about a month ago and just got the SDRAM in the mail about an hour ago so I'm now able to check out cores like the Amiga. MiSTer is going to be huge, and I'm glad people like you and SmokeMonster are doing the pioneering as the popularity of this thing is beginning to explode.

So the machine as shown is essentially an Amiga 1200 running on fpga. A setup guide and details on other Amiga models you can emulate would be great.

What you're pronouncing as "Dopus" is actually called Directory Opus. It was a third-party utility that made file navigation easier. In Amiga's current "zombie" state, it looks like it's baked into the workbench, but in the old days, it was a $39 purchase, and worth it.

I’ll put a video together on getting everything set up. I actually recorded this about 4 days ago and since then Ive got a lot of issues worked out. Still working on a few things but it’s all most set like I want. By the way Amiga was at the top of my list when I bought this.

Turrican 2. My favorite Amiga game which I've played through multiple times. I didn't notice any usage of rotational gun (press and hold fire) and spike ball (down and press space bar). Both techniques are essential :)

That is so true about the first 2 Turrican game!!!. Thats why i always preferred the SNES and Megadrive versions as they had invincibility frames when you got hit and could actually tell you were getting hit!

Definitely interested in the tutorial. I was an A500 user in the late 80's (rarity in America) and actually gave away the machine in the mid 90's. I regret that decision simply because of the premiums the old machines still go for and getting games like "It Came From the Desert" to play in emulation are extremely difficult. Definitely interested in what the DE10 Nano and MISTer can achieve here.

On the "static" screen at power-up, just hit F1 a few times. ;) Yeah, I didn't know either until recently. lol It will also save the setting. I like the pattern with just the frame around the border, as it helps me tweak my capture setup.

Nice, I can't justify getting one but am really enjoying these vids. Hope your gonna have a go at Igor's Atari ST core. It's quite important as it's 68000 is sync accurate. It's 68000 core code can be used in other 68000 based system cores. Also of course, the ST is a damn fine system (for it's time).

If you press F1 on the main MiSTer menu you can scroll through different backgrounds. Agreed, the snow effect really messes with video capture.

I want you to make a build video, but what would also be amazing is if someone could figure out how to put the mister into a reproduction Amiga 1200 case with a keyboard that fits (it might need a custom PCB/plate for the keyboard though)

One quick question - Did this work for you directly through HDMI with sound? The instructions seem to imply that the I/O board was needed for monitor, and to plug in external speakers for sound. Thanks!

If you run into issues try using PAL instead, NTSC used to cause issues for Amiga games back in the day

It's simulation if it's a chip running another chips instructions. It's emulation if there's a software client sitting on an OS doing the work.

Something always seems off with the Pi AND this FPGA core in terms of the positioning of the game area. Golden Axe on the real Amiga looks very differently positioned than this, slowly driving me nuts trying to work out what's going on.

You should see if you can get some old compo demos to run on it. Futurecrew made some good ones that really pushed the hardware at the time.

Does FPGA provide superior performance for emulation relative to CPU emulation such as retropi? I am talking frame rates, input lag for controllers etc.

I'm actually curious how well the DE-10 Nano FPGA MiSTer ao486 core works. There's Phil's Computer Lab DOS Benchmark Pack to look at the performance but also pouet.net has a bunch of DOS (and Amiga) demos to really see how well the sound/video/cpu is recreated. It's interesting that on the ao486 core page it says more logic cells are used for sound than the CPU. :)

What! Was that it? To short video to show of the most important core for Mister, how about showing some more games like cannon fodder, walker, and i would like to see Alladin wich usually is though on emulators, and how about some demos? Like Tint, Enigma and starstruck, and you cant show of Amiga without playing some mod music. and some later games would be cool to see in mister like Capital pumishment. Pretty please a video redo :) or send me the mister and ill film it ;)

Just download iGame, it's a wdload frontend. You'll need some mui libs to make it work, probably. Also give attention to some fpu specific libs, maybe you will try the non fpu versions if something is not working.

Does anyone know if the MiSTer port of minimig supports the Ethernet port on the MiSTer? I'd like to use FTP or even better, connect to some online BBSs on my MiSTer/Minimig setup.

Hi mate, how fast can it go, can it be as fast as a Amiga with Vampire V2 or the V4 in it, or like the speed of a Amiga 4000, yea yea a Amiga Fan with no money to buy a real 4000, but when this works well i like to have this in the checkmate a1500 case, that i think is nice, but how fast is it

Seriously which would you consider to be the premier Amiga for 2023? MISTer vs Apollo V4+? If price isn’t the number one consideration, which is the better system? Which is the better Amiga in 20 2023 from appointments standpoint?
