Great job! I'm looking to build one for myself as well.

It is a great project. I find it cools off fast but with the proper wrap, I didn’t mind the night and it warmed up fast! Let me know if you make one.

Nothing beats heat for an enjoyable camping experience. It’ll be nice to cook on too!

Lol, yeah that is an old table that I dig but it is no good in the dining room but sturdy enough to not be trash. =) Thanks bro. Hope you had a good Christmas!

You know I watch a lot of these stove build videos and I’m very impressed with the creativity and engineering of many of them now I’ve only seen five minutes of this video but I have to ask the question honestly, how many times are you gonna have to load that thing during the night to stay warm. I’m working on building a tent using an aluminum, turkey, roaster, lightweight, larger fuel capacity, and probably a little bit easier to work with then the steel you’d have to deal with with a ammo can plus I can find turkey roasters, aluminum ones at the thrift store honestly for less than five bucks even if you’re lucky it’s unlikely you’re gonna find an ammo can anywhere that cheap, not criticizing, just stating facts.

@@davesullivan8073 oh hey, yeah, I’m down for those comments as they are spot on. The reality is that I wanted the project. And something that fit into a pulk. That is the only reason I built it that way. You can build it cheaper than I did in many ways. If I remember right, I was all in (minus the stove pipe) for like 30 bucks. That said, I did notice the temp drop and I reloaded the stove often through the night but I’m good with that. To each their own hey. There are dozens of better options and I would love to see yours when you are done. I have seen the roaster pan done on a couple forums and think it’s a winning design that did not fit what I wanted to build. All the best, Gary.

Same here Seth!! I can't wait to get out with it. I meant to look for a sled so I could cheat and drag that stuff behind me since we may actually get snow this year! We will see but if I have to sleep in the yard I'll be out in it soon! All the best to you and the missus and have a great Christmas!

So cool! I have a friend that has one that he made in his "man shed." His was made out of an ammo can too, but isn't as nice as yours! I am sure that it will heat up your tent no problem. I am going to share with my friend what you are using for your chimney...not seen that before! Great work! Always glad to see you around and hope you are having a very Merry Christmas! Bruce and Otis

Bruce, Otis, Hi!!! I think the ammocan stove offers so many creative outlets that it is fun and provides an opportunity to express yourself through subtle or drastic differences in your build. Let me know what he thinks, I’d be happy to hear or even see his. All the best and you two have a great Christmas!

Nice job on the stove. I like the damper tape jig idea, first time I've seen this. I agree with you on moving the air intake damper to the bottom of the stove, better to draw air into the bottom of the fire instead of the top. Let us know how it works in the tent. Merry Christmas to you and the family.
@ConnecticutBackcountry
@ConnecticutBackcountry 2 года назад
Thank you! Not as compact as the one you sent me though! The venting on the bottom works for sure and the door seals too tight to get air in that lol. I have an itch to get out in the tent, I may sleep in the yard if I can't get into the woods lol. I hope you have a great Christmas, my best to you and yours!!

This was a fun project and it made for a good nights sleep but it made me want a legitimate hot tent (more head room) and a lighter stove to take hiking but that’s all later lol. All the best, Gary.

@@ConnecticutBackcountry Awesome. I hear that! I'm currently looking at the Coleman catalytic heaters to match the gear I picked up today. I'll use the heater during lean-to camping. Theyre good for tents as well, but I'm not sure I'd use it for tent use.
@ConnecticutBackcountry
@ConnecticutBackcountry 2 года назад
@@jasonm1690 for sure! Those things cook. I don’t have one personally but used them in scouts and remember them being a perfect solution for camping heat!

Nice job on this hot tent stove! I acquired a 50 cal ammo box, as well. Thanks for the ideas to make it a tent stove. I am thinking of using a 3 in black stove pipe on mine. Be nice if you would make a list of materials used, in your comment section.
@ConnecticutBackcountry
@ConnecticutBackcountry 10 месяцев назад
Thank you and thank you for the suggestion. I did mention it in the video but I can put a list together. I mostly used stuff I had laying around so I am not sure of prices but I can find comparable stuff I am sure. the 3" stove pipe would be a lot lighter than the exhaust sections I am sure. I did end up switching to 3" pipe after as the 2" didn't work how I wanted it to.

Whats the weight compared to a 5.56 ammo can?
@ConnecticutBackcountry

I honestly couldn’t tell you but I didn’t take weight into major consideration as I was looking more at the firebox size.

Thank you for asking, I take that as a huge compliment. I don’t make them commercially. Honestly, it was a fun project and worth the undertaking.
