Thanks for showing the upgrade...and for the good explanation of the 'marlin spike' knot. I have seen my share of hammocks and never really understood their proper set-up. Your expeditions have led me to a whole new view of their camping utility!
+James Ellsworth that's awesome I'm so glad I could have helped anyone to get there heads around hammock camping there are many things to keep in mind but once you have it figured out it's one of the best ways to spend time in the wild. All the best to you
Very good mod. I always wake up much lower than when I went to sleep, and if its a rainy night then those slings stretch even more...! The Amok sling system is pretty good, but I think I'll be doing this to mine as well. Nice one, thanks for the video, all the best, Steve
UK Preppers Guide hi there thanks for the comment I’m glad you found the video useful. I would just purchase the whoopie sling kit from DD hammocks they work well. All the best
Cool mod Tim it looks like it'll save you time when setting up and tearing it down my grandson keeps saying that your always looking to improve things like the kiln and now the Amok keep those videos coming and can't wait to see the progress on the knives
+Acruz2 chew mate he is right I'm always looking for ways to make things more personalised to my needs and improving to make them better. Knives should be shown soon. All the best to you
Watched this earlier when I was not interested in hammocks, but you have me looking at the Amok, lol. But the mod appears to have gotten rid of the stretch and will check with you in a newer video to see how it's holding out, cheers!
Tall Cedars I seem to be turning a few people’s attention to the Amok but to be honest I think is the Amok it’s self the thing is just so good. I actually don’t use the sling mod with mine anymore because my whoopies where to old and worn out they kept locking up but that is just the fault of the slings. All the best
Good video, have you done anything with the blades you recently softened at the debris village. I would be interested to see what you have done with the blanks. Take care.
Steve Curran hi there yes I have done some further work to the blanks but I only got this tripod yesterday so have not had chance to film any of it. I will do a video to show everyone what I have done and have left to do. All the best to you
Campbell Spears thanks for the comment mate, whoopie slings are a great addition to any hammock and the set from DD is a good price and last for ages I think I have had mine two years and they are still good. The Amok is the most comfortable hammock I can think of but it's expensive so I get people being a bit put off. All the best to you
+Billy poppins if you are in the U.K. You can buy them from a company called alpinetreck or if your in the USA you can buy them direct from Amok equipment. As for the whoopie slings they are available from DD hammocks who deliver worldwide. All the best to you
really curious to see how you feel about this after you've slept in it a few times. I'd be awfully tempted to put different colour amsteel on each side, noticed you hung it backwards on your first go, missing the coloured carabiners of the original, heh. good vid as usual tho
TikkerLoS cheers for your comment yeh I often used to hang it the wrong way even with the colour coded ends lol but that’s just me. I have used it a few times since the mod and it works nicely would be even better with New whoopie slings as mine are a couple of years old. All the best to you
wondering if you'd be willing to try something. you were saying the whoopies stretch less. any chance you'd be willing to measure the difference in stretch? I'm definitely intrigued with the idea of doing a swap. I really like the simplicity of the cinch buckles though
TikkerLoS I think the stretch rating is just to do with the material and I think it’s measured in a % of the original length. I think nylon webbing has a rating of about 8-12% theoretically meaning one metre of webbing would stretch to 1.12m. Amsteel on the other hand has a rating closer to the 1% mark meaning it would be hardly noticeable. Thanks for the interest and all the best to you
Correct me if I'm wrong... After thoroughly reading through the comments, it appears you no longer rock the 'mod...i.e. use whoopie slings. Would it be fair to say that whoopie slings don't stand the test of time? (...or require some unforeseen upkeep/maintenance?)
Royal Hippie Gangster .com hi thanks for the comment and well noticed. My slings are getting old and dirty and due to that they get stuck quite often this was annoying me so I swapped them back out. If they where new they would have lasted a long time and worked well but they where already over two years old when I did this mod. All the best
@@TimRobson30 ...as a 'heavy Amok user, I value your experience with this important piece of equipment. I think it's telling that when the 'old whoopie slings went bad, you chose not to replace them with new whoopie slings. Am I reading you loud and clear? And thanks UK brother....from Northern CA, USA.
Royal Hippie Gangster .com that came purely out of need rather than want if I had the time to order them new I would have but I needed to use it and had the old straps just sitting there
@TimRobson30 Thanks so much for sharing this. I’d wondered about this as a weight saving measure as well. How LONG are the Whoopie slings you used. Does this allow you to set up the Amok between trees that are further than 20 feet apart? Do you have to set up the tree hugger straps super high or about the same as you used to with the original Amok straps?
The whoopie slings I was using came from DD hammocks, I’m not sure what length they are. They ou have a lot of room to work with if you factor the length of tree straps also but the wider you go the higher you must take them up the tree so if your planning a 20 foot span you may need a ladder hahaha. Hope that helps, all the best
another channel I follow, Shuggery, showed this same mod on his new hammock he started testing, he emphasized hanging the woopie on the knot instead of the toggle ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6pNmXZLqXhY.html
Kaylynn Strain yes shug emery is the exact person I talked about in the video he is a great guy I have followed him for many years and had some great conversations with Him over the years about hammocks and his life as a clown which I find amazing and very interesting. Thanks for watching and all the best to you
TedWeirum thanks for watching. It works very well I have used these whoopie slings on another hammock before and they are rock solid. Al the best to you
Rune Ellingsen hi thanks for the comment. The purpose of it is to save a little weight and to make sure the Amok will not lower in the night without having to tie a knot in the strap, but mainly because I like to mod things and I like whoopie slings. All the best
@@TimRobson30 Ok. just wondering. I dont have any problems with mine lowering over the night. Only thing I have done is to make to pockets at the head end to stretch out the bug net. Just like they have done in the new XL version.
Rune Ellingsen good to here you don’t have any issues with yours, I found it would slowly let the height of the Amok down over night and I would wake up almost on the ground. dynema whoopie slings do not budge and they pack into the stuff sack smaller. Nice idea with the pockets to stretch out the head end I will have to give that a go in summer when I start using it again. All the best
