Here's what Cross should have said: Doing "Chipmunks" didn't compromise his artistic goals AT ALL. He's still David Cross, he's the exact same comedian. Someone who "sells out" agrees to put on a character and change themselves for a new career. All he did was supplement his income by apparently a lot of money. If someone asked him to host "Deal or No Deal" and stop doing stand up, that would be selling out. Picking up a huge paycheck for a small role in two movies is just a smart move
Oh, you're a kid. Sorry about my comment above, I thought you were an ignorant adult when it turns out you're actually an okay kid. Well, look cross isn't really about those chipmunk movies. He does cameos in things all the time. Actually he was one of the first comedians I was exposed to growing up, around your age because he appeared on comedy central, even with his own animated series, and on adult swim, quite regularly. The character he plays in that chipmunks movie is nothing compared to the stuff you should be watching in your teens. Look up his comedy albums and his REAL movie gigs and shows including the Mr. Show with Bob and Dave sketch show (the new AND the old one). You will not be disappointed. Although, you're probably still a bit young for him. When you're in highschool or 8th grade-ish look this stuff up, he is one of the best comedians of the modern age, possibly one of the best period.
@@ricksanchez8469 they are decent entertaining movies , they are not that good or charming , but they can be enjoyable , there are far worse kids movies out there
He is right, about kids enjoying and remembering the movie. I have a definite resemblence to David Cross (though less grey on the beard and more hair on the head) kids come up to me all the time, and its mostly 12 to 18 year olds who grew up with this movie and ask me if "I was the guy on Alvin and the Chipmunks".
I didn't believe David Cross when he said that Alvin and the Chipmunks 3 Chipwrecked was the most unpleasant experience he ever had during production because he apologized for those comments because he said that funny trilogy pays him enough money to buy summer homes.
What I got from this is that he's obviously not a fan, being an adult ffs, took it for money but is proud and happy that kids love those films which is the whole point
I never understood why people hate on Cross for this movie. I mean, the chipmunks are cool, they were a classic cartoon back in the day. How can you hate chipmunks? Now the movie is obviously for kids, so how can these 35ish year old ners criticize him for this movie, objectively or even subjectively? I mean, it's a baby movie. You take your kid, then you enjoy that your favorite comedian has a role in it, father son/daughter super bonding! But I guess these guys actually watched the movie as a piece of his actual work, lol that just strikes me as very odd. Why does someone have to be a sellout to make money? Being a stand up comic is really hard work relative to other show biz gigs. I mean you don't have writers to rely on, even a lot of musicians who also travel the road, have writers. So they not only have to write or develop verbal memorized material they have to get the timing right, perform under these heavy ass hot lamps, they gotta travel all year long at these shitty clubs, where they often times lose money early in their career because you start off paying for shows or doing free shows, then when you do finally get paid, you're not necessarily headlining or selling out shows, so it's very little. It's taken some of the greatest comics DECADES to even become vaguely recognized, so why is taking an opportunity that puts food on the table, a bad thing? It's a job like anything else, and there are people who have sold out way worse than cross ever could. There are many comedians who don't even pay their dues and blow up on huge circuit and acting gigs, like Fluffy, Mencia, Schumer, Jones, McCarthy, Cook, Cable Guy and those are the REAL sell outs in Comedy.
Yeah.. to the film's credit. He's the reason why even if it's a bad movie, the only important thing about it... is Cross He's knows that doesn't give a crap he's in a chipmunk movie but he defends it anyway as possible. Cross looked way better than Dave Dave Dave Dave Dave Dave is not here. David was better than Jason.
What do you mean "get over it"? Did you actually watch the video? He doesen't even care what people say about it, he's glad he did the movie and he's not bitter or sad at all. The only reason he talked about it is because the interviewer specifically asked him bout it, so what is there to get over? And come on back? Um, he never left? Actually he JUST did a nation wide tour, the 3rd season of Todd Margaret released, His new comedy special released on TV, steaming services AND a comedy album. He self publishes audio books on audible ALL THE TIME. He still works on material at small clubs, doing the comic thing. He does cameos in movies, regularly. He even teamed up with BOB after 17 years to create a new Mr. Show on Netflix, the first season came out last year actually. He even made a kickstarter to fund a very successful film he wrote and created called Hits. I'm not trying to be condescending, but where the fuck have you been, man? Cross is one of my favorite comedians specifically because he remains so consistently active. A true New Yorker through and through. Pure comic, hard working genius, that never sleeps. "I miss you?" He's always one click away!
David has no qualms about doing kiddie movies. He was in Small Soldiers back in the 90's. I can still watch that movie even as an adult, and the chemistry between David and Jay Mohr is damn good comedy for a kid's movie. I cannot watch the Chipmunks unless Rifftrax is making fun of it. Hey, God forbid the fella gets a paycheck, but he so effortlessly side stepped the interviewer's questions. I guess you do become exactly what you hate in the end.
@@Ztormie if you don’t consider those movies masterpieces, I think you should reconsider your life. Uncle Ian easily is one of the greatest antagonist in movie history 🥶
+SkypeCounsellor It's not really selling out if he hasn't violated his principles, which he hasn't. It'd be selling out if he was paid to perform at a GOP fundraiser or something.
This guy does m&m's commercials now and standup where he defends corporate democrats, like obama, sad. At least he isnt crying about sjw's taking his millions, like every other comic.
