#Sportster #Amsoil #Review I decided to try Amsoil motorcycle oil in a Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200. Here is my real world experience with Amsoil motor oil. To be honest I didn't have much in the way of expectations just by changing oil. Well I've been running the oil for 2500 miles at the time the video was posted and I've got to say I am really impressed. All the testimonials I read were true, it really truly is a quality product and does what they say it will do. I was really surprised by the difference it made in the smoothness and noise reduction in the engine. I also changed the primary and transmission out to Amsoil, noticeable difference in the smoothness of the transmission shifting. But check it out and let me know what you think in the comments!

Amsoil has the data prove it too, I run Amsoil in everything even power equipment. I had a couple generators I went with the small engine oil in, they were way quieter and used way less fuel than with cheap dino oil.

My dad and uncle are Amsoil dealers so I grew up around the stuff. My personal experience came from a race I was running and I had a crankcase vent hose kink. This blew out the valve cover gasket. My Formula Ford kept running and the Amsoil kept it alive despite blowing out a lot of oil. My 2001 Camaro SS has had Amsoil in it exclusively its whole life and its over 100,000 miles and still running strong. The lab testing is where you can see a scientific difference in the Synthetic oil vs the competition. It is pricey but per their claims you can run it for one year per oil change. So do your research and give it a try . . .
@GixxerFoo

That's been my experience with it, I have had really good luck with it in my vehicles. To satisfy curiosity I went through Amsoil's contracted lab (oil analyzers) and Black Stone. Same results, after 15K miles in a truck so I run it up to 20k. In the bikes I change once a year, sometime over 5K miles give or take. Always have it analyzed I could keep on going with it if I wanted to.

I know I’m late posting. I had the same exact experience as you did. I noticed an immediate difference. My bike went from Syn3 to Mobil1 when I bought it. Had to change the oil and Mobil1 was easily available at that moment so it went in. I couldn’t wait to get Amsoil in it. I can always recommend Amsoil confidently.

We ran Amsoil Extreme Diesel in a Ford/NH 304 Genesis 4 cylinder engine. Stock would normally be an 85hp engine, small turbo, and top RPM of 2300. This engine was extensively modified for tractor pulling. It was built with a Robert Bosch P Pump, 22mm injectors, 800CC system. GT45 Turbo, Max Simpson water injection about 1100 hp. And it turned 4500 rpm off the line. We melted allot of pistons and valves due to water injection issues until we went Simpson Multiport, and ceramic coated piston topsand valve faces. But we never had lubricity issues. Bearings were always good, and the turbo cartridge also always survived the high temps and demand.

Like your channel a lot. Just saw this while scanning your videos. For what it's worth I used to hunt ducks with a man who flew with the Amsoil founder, Al Amatusio in the National Air Guard and new well the history of the company and it's development. My friend believed in the product so strongly that everything he owned with a cylinder in it had full Amsoil lubricants and filters. He even went to the extent to have his new Suburbans drained at the dealer and changed over to Amsoil lubricants and filters before driving them off the lot. I have been running HD products in my bikes but I think the next oil change will be to the Amsoil to reduce the engine heat and improve wear resistance.

I just wanna say l appreciate you watching and your support! That is awesome to even know someone that was that close to the founder. Al believed in his product and knew what he had, l believe in Amsoil fully. It's a product on another level and l am just a guy that runs it everything too. Technology has finally come along to prove what Al said for years, Amsoil has the data to back the claims. I fill it and run it, just follow what they say and do an occasional oil analysis. It's worth the money they ask if you love less labor and long engine life.

I'll be changing to amsoil soon. I'm currently over 4k miles. I'll change it before I hit 5k. I'm hoping to see some awesome results. The oil cost for me was about the same as the syn 3 per qt. It is expensive but I would have bought syn 3 anyway if not amsoil. I considered mobile 1. I run that in my car but decided to give amsoil a shot.

I came here to see what other peoples experiences were with Amsoil, just to see if they matched up to mine. And you my friend, hit the nail on the head. I ran amsoil the first chance I could on my FLSS with the 110. The rocker box got quieter. I just traded it in last month for a new bagger, and will be running that in all 3 holes when I do my first 1k service. From what I'm hearing, it not only runs quieter but shifts smoother. The one counter that I make when everyone comments at the cost of the oil. "$20 more in oil is cheaper than 2 and 3 grand for a rebuild" There are just certain things you don't cheap out on. Oil, brakes, and tires.

I dont know about the rocker noise, but those lifters on that twelve hundy & twin cam Dyna both love that Amsoil above all else, then Mobil-1 v-twin, then Rotella diesel third, and finally that HD brand oil last in my comparison. And this being a noise comparison, since Harley Davidson air cooled engine hydraulic lifters tend to make an audibly different sound with different oils.

You mentioned about noisy valve trains. Well they are a fact of life with Sportsters what with all the cam gears etc but there are things to check other than backlash on the gears. Lifters can get noisy - standard ones ain't that great, and maybe you could investigate Rocker Lockers if you haven't done already . Whilst you are looking at the rockers take them out and wash them clean of oil. Check the rocker fits snugly on the shaft and that the shaft fits nicely in the lower rocker box/carrier - although oil gets to these places, they do wear and can make quite a clatter. The rockers can be re-bushed, check that the rocker pad that bears down on the valve has not got grooves on it which can be re-flattened on an oilstone (by hand) and shafts are quite cheap.Standard valve springs are quite soft and that can cause the valves to 'float' a bit and that makes everything noisy. I recently fitted new rockers (roller rockers from Ultima) Rocker Lockers and new shafts along with new lifters ( standard ones that were 'new take-offs' for £20 a set from ebay) along with Hammers Impact 560 cams and all quietened down a lot. I had had Andrews N4's in there and they were a bit noisy but it may just have been the rest of the valve train as the noise of the cam gears is still audible but not as bad. Oil I use is Lucas 20W50 as it is good and thick, fairly cheap ($30 for a five litre bottle) and makes no claims of being wonderful other than it's the same oil used in Top Fuel Dragsters and is recommended for Harleys .....
@GixxerFoo
@GixxerFoo 4 года назад
I was seriously wondering if l would have to that far with it. But l get the tolerances on these bikes are a lot looser than water cooled bikes. The Amsoil honestly quited it down a bit on both of the bikes after l switched over from Harley's oil. It was enough even my wife noticed it on her bike. Lol and she could care less about the mechanicals.
@thakery5720
@thakery5720 4 года назад
@@GixxerFoo 'Motorcycle oil' is made for bikes that use thin oil - Harleys benefit from good old fashioned oil that is thick ! The downside is that in winter it goes very thick and can cause problems when you try to start the bike. Oil sold by Harley is very poor quality and Synthetic oil is really for modern engines and diesel engines. Lots of dealers and independents won't use it and some swear by it but you have to remember that Harley buy the cheapest they can get and sell it for as much as they can.

Amsoil makes some wild claims but they have the data to back it up. They are ready and wiling to demonstrate their product, they will pay for a motor if it fails due to lubricant. Honestly the failure was likely due to age but it had Amsoil in it and they covered it.

@williamjohnson6517 2 года назад
OK with all due respect ive never come across a motorcycle even a water cooled.one ( let alone a air cooled V Twin that ran.any length of time and you could still touch the exhaust!!!!!!!!🤔😳. I run Mobil 1 in my Turbo Veloster and 4T ( Mobil 1) in my Honda CTX 700 bike. I do this because I had a water pump fail on a VW once and it took the Head Gasket out . The reason.i tell you this.is when I got into the motor there was practically no wear with the Mobil 1. Even though I have recently been informed Mobil 1 IS NOT a100% synthetic oil but a kind of blend. I have two Harley's and run the 20-50 Amsoil in the motors only and the Amsoil Primary and Transmission fluid in the other holes. I've seen the torture test on the good old interweb😂And Mr Harley states Harley's running up to 240/260 is considered normal it's when it gets above 270 which my Deuce hit once !!!! Apparently Tri Glides can hit 300! But the torture test had temptures hitting 500!!! So I'm now considering running Amsoil in the little Honda 700cc and the Veloster Turbo seeings the Amsoil is graded as a true 100% Synthetic oil. I did go to Myrtle Beach bke week and also.to Delmarva and.saw a outfit selling Amsoil and they had it ticking over ( a Harley) in 85/90 degree heat just sitting there BUT the dudes also had ( love Juggs) ( mini mites smaller) air fans that blew cold air on to the heads. He had a pair of these running on display and when I put my hand.behind where they would blow on the Heads it was WAY cold. I'm seriously considering getting hooked up with these mini mites( the Love Juggs) are a little too big for my liking looks wise BUT the mini mites in real world testing are nearly just as efficient . I think that's the answer to excessive heat.on a Harley motor. Amsoil used with the love Juggs/ mini mites fans and your temptures never exceed danger zone levels ever. Sorry for the book 🤔😳😂😂😂😂😎👍🇺🇸

Motul and Amsoil are in my opinion the best out there. You really wouldn't be going wrong with either brand. But Amsoil is half the cost of Motul, that's about the only argument l have between those two brands lol.

Ahhhhhh well that explains a lot, where you're at l would go for with Motul for a premium oil. I used Motul quite a bit when l was racing. The engine was tore down after every national and inspected. Do ANY of you use Amsoil in your older EVO motorcycles? I've been told that it will cause leaks in the older bikes. I ran Amsoil in my 07 and all my other bikes just fine.
@GixxerFoo
@GixxerFoo 2 месяца назад
With an older engine that has run dyno oil for years that oil can leave a film over the gaskets. When you put a high quality oil like amsoil in a motor like that, it will clean that film off that has been masking a bad gasket for years and years. If you have a fresh build on an Evo, it would be an excellent oil to run. Same thing could happen with an older twin cam or any engine. You might put Amsoil in an older engine and it will perfectly fine, but it won't hurt the engine itself.

By the way car oils are superior to motorcycle oils. Amsoil is more than likely an Ester based oil
@GixxerFoo
@GixxerFoo 4 года назад
That's true and car oil has to be for emissions. Harley even says in a pinch you can run 15w40 diesel oil, some guys swear by it for their Harley.
@semperfipar1299
@semperfipar1299 4 года назад
Oil does not really affect emissions but it does count for fuel economy based on how much resistance it puts on the engine oil pump and the crank moving through the oil in the sump. Thin oil pumps and flows better than thick oil which is why you want a broad range multi-viscosity oil like a 5w-20 or 5w-30. On the thicker side for air cooled engine in the 50 weight it just evaporates slower than the thinner weight but the thinner actually lubricates better because it flows better. I run 15w-50 car oil in my HD sportster and it has no head noise at all.

Hammer Performance breaks in their new motors on Wal-Mart Supertech diesel oil for the first 500 miles lol. I was really surprised to hear they did that with how methodical they are about their engines. Then they switch to motorcycle oil after the final oil change.
@semperfipar1299
@semperfipar1299 4 года назад
Yes I can see that after I had drained the oil in my Sportster once the rings seated. The bike had about four miles on it when I purchased it brand new and it made all kinds of heads noise. You could head every click of the valves train rockers and all. I was a bit alarmed but wrote it off as that is the way Harleys are suppose to sound. So I rode it back and fourth to work everyday and them at about 500 hundred miles I felt the engine pull harder and that was my indicator of rings have seated. I drained out that Harley oil and you could see the glistening metal. So I was reading the warranty about only Harley oil and I said to myself this is just another four stroke and dumped in Syntec 15W50 Castrol. Hesitantly pushed the ignition switch and the 1200 fired right up with absolutely no noise at all. It was like listening to a whole different bike. After I fixed the carb issues, no thanks to the Harley techs, the bike has run like a raped ape. A had rode it to dealer one time to get maintenance parts and one of the techs came out and commented on how good the engine sounded. I whispered to him Castrol Syntec and he whispered back don’t tell them that. LOL
