Overview of the transfer process at Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS), one of the busiest airports in Europe and home to Dutch flag carrier KLM. Amsterdam Schiphol has seven piers that are all interconnected airside and serve distinctly Schengen flights, non-Schengen flights or a mix of Schengen/non-Schengen flights.

Thank you! Really! It is simple but helpful. A family member will be traveling through this airport soon and I want to help her get ready. After watching this it will not feel like the first time for her. 😊🤟

Very useful guide. Will be flying from Newcastle to Stockholm in November with KLM, with a transfer at this airport. Had this vision of absolute chaos when transferring for my connecting flight to Arlanda - transfer time of 1 hour 10 minutes on the way there, and 55 minutes on the way back to Newcastle. Don't feel as stressed now

For an airport that size a people mover would be beneficial. A lot of Asian airports have trains which carry passengers from one end of the terminal to the other, depending on the destination or the origin.
@kevonvideo
@kevonvideo Год назад
The new A-pier that is under construction is even further away than B-pier. Worst case scenario is a >2km hike 🏃. A people mover would definitely be convenient, but it's not going to happen, unfortunately. There are automated (!) wheelchairs though 😅
@RealConstructor
@RealConstructor 10 месяцев назад
There is space reserved for a people mover on the terminal roof, but with the one terminal concept, do you really need one? The terminal isn’t that big, the distances on the piers/concourses are long. The people mover will get there if the new Terminal is being built I think. But this airport has to diminish the arrivals/departures from 500,000 to about 450,000 because of the government’s environmental goals. Such a silly and damaging rule. They don’t measure the exhaust fumes or noise levels from planes, they just reduce the number of flights without regarding the fact that newer planes have less exhaust fumes and make less noise. It’s completely nuts. And there is a newly built satellite airport nearby that is ready to open for about 4 years now to take over the holiday charters and low cost carriers. But it doesn’t get a permit to be operational because of political disagreement between left wing and right wing coalition parties of the last three governments. It is ridiculous and shameful.

Thanks, this was really helpful! Flying soon with a connection from schengen to nonschengen. Curious about AMS being a silent airport, seems so much less hectic and stressfree.

i used Schiphol a Twice already and honestly it's a very nice huge hub ,but compared to Frankfurt CDG LHR Schiphol is more easy to use it only if peoples like a long walk of course
@TheVailTribe
@TheVailTribe 8 месяцев назад
suggest CDG there are alot of talk about how hard it is for transfers. Also, People like me who will take a flight and flying with dogs. We are told we have to take them and all our baggage and recheck in again, but I dont know what that looks like.. we have to go through security? All airports should have videos like this
@i_mixr
@i_mixr 3 месяца назад
So CDG transfers are a bit of a mixed bag. Yes, there is an international transit area, but it’s a bit complex to go through because the type of security or passport control you take depends on which gates you arrive at. Unlike AMS, if you arrive to CDG from a Schengen flight, you do not immediately arrive to the gates area, you are diverted to a hall with two options, 1. Connecting flights and 2. Baggage claim. And as far as transiting CDG with your furry friend, yes, you need to head to baggage claim and reclaim all your luggage and your furry friend and re checkin at the baggage drop off counter for your airline.

I don't know why, but I ALWAYS had problems transferring at Schipol. Not only for the long walk, but also and by pure chance, random agents repeateadly cheking my IDs, (I thought they were scammers first), extremely rude cleaning staff yelling at me to go out of the toilet WTH. Despite the shiny flooring, nothing makes me want to go through this airport again.
@RealConstructor
@RealConstructor Месяц назад
Agents don’t randomly check IDs, that’s prohibited in our country. They only check if your behavior is out of the ordinary. And cleaning is done two ways, one when the whole toilet is closed with a steel roller blind, for that to happen, they have to evacuate all people to do so and second when the toilet stays open and they only clean the unoccupied sanitary items. But there are always another toilets close by which you can use. But reading the tone of your comment, I can relate to the agents and the cleaning crew. It’s better for everyone if you stay away from this airport.

Assuming you don't have any checked baggage and coming from a secure country, then there would be no need to go through passport control and immigration to connect.

It may actually be faster since you are doing a non-Schengen to non-Schengen connection. And since you are coming from the UK, security at AMS should not be needed again and you shouldn’t have to pass passport control

Great video. Coming from Berlin, we are flying on to Lima with a stop in AMS. I understand that I have to go through passport control and security check between the Schengen Area and the Non-Schengen Area. But I have another question: What about the transfer gates T1 to T9 (e.g. at 11:32 and 14:10 in your video)? Do I have to go to one of the transfer counters first before going to my next gate?

I'm confused about the passport control as obviously you cant film it and I don't have much time to get in wrong Queue, is there more than one queue? Are you coming from a non-Schengen country? If so, at least you don't have to hike all the way from the B-pier. I think you'll be fine, just remember worst thing that can happen is you miss the flight and they put you on the next one. You'll have time to enjoy and explore Schiphol or even Amsterdam, that's not so bad 😄
@kevonvideo
@kevonvideo Год назад
@@lacarantona You’ll automatically be booked onto the next available flight. You’ll receive a notification about your new flight details. It doesn't matter if it's because of a delayed flight or crowds at security. But it's important that you booked as one trip, not seperate flights. For your peace of mind, familiarise with the airport layout to know which pier is where and the locations of the staffed transfer desks in case you need your ongoing boarding pass. Self service transfer machines are abundant throughout the airport. If you do miss the connection, you might even enjoy your extra time. And remember when interacting with Dutch staff: they are not trying to be rude, they just have a direct communication style.
