AMSTRAD CPC | TOP 10 GAMES 

I always wondered why more Amstrad games weren't made in the higher resolution / fewer colours mode like Head Over Heels was. The graphics in that mode still hold up today, compared to the blocky full colour mode that most games were made in.

Ah the memories.....my favourites were Commando.....Barbarian (Maria Whittaker Poster also), Bomb Jack, Buggy Boy, Chase HQ...Match Day 2 & Gryzor.....such happy times playing on the CPC with my brother....we got it for a Christmas in 1985....couldn’t even begin to estimate the Happy Hours spent playing games on it

Bruce Lee and Gauntlet..... those were the days!

I'd go with:- Boulderdash, Bruce Lee, Chuckie Egg, Deathchase (2008 version of 1983 Spectrum game), Fruity Frank, Knight Lore, Laser Squad, Motos, Rebelstar, Who Dares Wins 2. If you haven't played it, and like Laser Squad, I really do recommend Rebelstar. They're both by Julian Gollop.

I prefered Target Renegade over Renegade by along shot. Target Renegade was the closest thing to having Double Dragon at home.

Great list, can't disagree with any of them. Would struggle not to have Barbarian, Rainbow Islands and Robocop on the next ten!

operation wolf always impressed me as a kid on the amstrad, loved it. I also loved renegade but I died a lot as a kid so the music drove me insane after a while. I think I would struggle making a a list this small, even a top 50 would be hard with so many classics. Also now im at the end of the video, I never played head over heels but I did play other isometrics like the batman one one called prodigy with a baby in it, I had a hard time with isometric games, I always found it hard knowing exactly where I was and if I was lined up

Jet Set Willy, Sabre Wolf, Barbarian, Roland On The Ropes, Roland In The Caves, Harrier Attack….. great tymes haha. Oh yeah and of course Friday The 13th with its iconic tunes and foreboding atmosphere.

I loved Ghosts n Goblins & Dragons Lair Escape from Singes Castle not listed but Renegade was up there for me too.

Loved Gryzor, specially the in game music and hi score music

I've only noticed and watched this video nearly 5 years after it was uploaded! It's a really well chosen selection of Amstrad CPC games for newcomers to the machine. Here is my own current list of top ten CPC games from the 'classic' era: 1. Ranarama 2. Skweek 3. RoboCop 4. Rainbow Islands 5. Destructo 6. Operation Wolf 7. Bumpy 8. Pick'n Pile 9. Head Over Heels 10. Gauntlet (US Gold)

Emlyn Hugues? That's because you never played Boultra! I didn't know he Laser Squad. I think I woulda LOVe it! Head Over Heels... yeah, I 1000% agree: best CPC game for sure! What about Barbarian, Jet Set Willy, Xyphoes Fantasy, SRAM, Lode Runner, Prehistorik, Rick Dangerous (both), Bombjack (both), Saboteur (both), Arkanoid, Iron Lord, Ikari Warriors, Commando, Double Dragon, but... hey! that's a matter of choice. Thanks!!

I would include 'Gauntlet' in the top ten.

Game number 4, Laser Squad has the music from the arcade Rygar! WTF!

Tau ceti, the Eidolon, total eclipse, exolon, thrust, grand prix simulator, stunt car racer, pyjamarama, chuckie egg, heavy on the magic.

The most future proof game of all time in amstrad, for me, is: Roland goes digging.. It has to much strategy to win, and need fast response. I think no one has given it much attention back then. I still play it today, when i play 2-3 games. Missing a lot of Nick Bruty / David Perry games in here :-) At least one or two of them such as Trantor and Dandare 3 would have fitted nicely. But I agree with the majority of picks here though as being among the best games the CPC could offer. And still offers to this day :-)

if you don't put Target Renegade, Commando, RoboCop, Barbarian (palace Software) and Arkanoid II on top list, you are NOT a true Amstrad FAN ^^ Luckily, you put the best of all Gryzor ^^ (that launch the amstrad too and the SNES with Contra) Don't your remember Arkarnoid I and II launched the Amstrad by itself? Don't you remember Barbarian created something called SF2? Target Renegade was the best 2 players game? Would also put Rainbow island, Sabre Wulf, Starquake (I like the intense SPEED, quickest amstrad game ever!) Dragons Lair 2 was a VERY good action/adventure game with high replayability. Nebulus for the Twist and originality. Exolon and Dan Dare III for the colors ^^ highway encounter is very under estimated! Warrior+ was Crual and nice ^^ But now, new games have been created PAST 2000, so I would put also some games like pinball dreams, Dead on Time, Xyphoes Fantasy.... Is it me or Laser Squad has the music of RYGAR?? For me, it not that good ^^ Operation wolf, Emilio Soccer,swithblade, chase HQ have 0 REPLAYABILITY!!!

Get Dexter was my favourite.

Fruity frank was the best

J aurais mis d autres jeux comme highway encounter, 5eme axe, barbarian, antiriad, gunfight.... Dommage que le mode 0 ai été sous exploité. Gryzor et renegade étaient les plus beaux jeux en 16 couleurs. En mode 0 on s approchait de l atari st en finesse. Les couleurs...pas grave...quand on voyait le details des sprites sur spectrum zx...qui avaient aussi des conversions parfois meilleurs que cpc ou c64...le gros problèmes venaient des programmeurs qui souvent ne se cassaient pas la tête car ils étaient sur de vendre rien qu avec le titre de la licence et la jaquette....je me rappelle la grosse déception de gradius, j y avais joué juste avant chez un ami sur msx...
