It`s not a best idea to use it as a booster. Especially because it cuts some high freq. It is best for rocking into the mixer line input or a big marshall cab.
Indeed its like Sansamp in california mode. This pedal is made on the same plate as DistStation but with less quantity of details. And Diststation is similar to Sansamp and has the same controls and switches. I have both AMT pedals and used them even for a voice in theatre. They had a lot of similar models. These models have very low weight, low price and cool result. May be not as rugged as Sansamp. This series had also a compressor reviewed at Ovnilab.com, a pair of tube dists and EQ pedals.
