Amtrak Accessible Bedroom Tour | Superliner II 

Finally-a video tour of a Superliner Accessible Bedroom! My wife & I travelled once in one of these bedrooms. It's not for the very tall or claustrophobic. I saw that it will accommodate someone whom is wheelchair bound. My wife is semi-ambulatory meaning she needs a wheelchair or assistance whenever she needs to walk with a cane or walker more than 10ft. The stairs in Superliners are narrow & steep which is a challenge for even younger travelers. We prefer the Deluxe Bedrooms (2nd level) since they offer the most room & privacy-especially in restrooms. We no longer travel by train. Privacy curtains do not muffle sounds nor odors in Accessible Bedrooms. Although Accessible Bedrooms cover the width of these cars, the windows are half the size of those found in Roomettes & Deluxe Bedrooms which reduces the angle of vision. Accessible Bedrooms are great for the handicapped & wheelchair bound as long as there is a companion. Amtrak staff will see to handicapped travelers boarding & disembarking safely, with meal deliveries. I'm not sure whether they will assist with getting in & out of bed or toilets for those handicapped persons traveling alone.

Your video was excellent . I’ve traveled in the regular roommet and have always been comfortable. It’s nice to know that the one you showed has the extra features if you need one like this. I thought the only handicap room would be a more expensive bedroom. I have always loved being on the train.

So happy to find this one. I have watched them all about the roomette but Amtrak messed up my reservation and gave away my roomettes... so just upgraded me FREE to the accessible bedrooms. I can't wait!!

We recently traveled accessible coach with our daughter who uses a power chair. Originally they told me that I'd have to travel upstairs and only my wife could travel with my daughter, but because there were extra seats they let me stay with my family. The coach attendant would make food runs for people who weren't able to get up and down the stairs.

I have enjoyed many of your Amtrak videos! But being wheelchair bound, I LOVE that you showed an accessible sleeper room. And thank you for the dining tips! I have traveled Amtrak in an accessible coach chair, but never a sleeper. I was looking at a train trip from Toronto to Vancouver but, If I would need to have all my meals brought to me I might prefer a shorter trip.

Thanks for the accessible run through. I'm thinking of heading out to Salt Lake City to see my two youngest boys from VA, next year and need an accessible room. Is there a place to store my walker in the room? I usually just use my wheelchair for long distances and usually bring my walker as a backup.

My wife and I took the California Zephyr from Chicago to Emeryville last week in the accessible room.. I assure you, it is “not” first class. Very disappointed.. but the scenery was wonderful.

Good to know there are still rooms with toilet & sink in them.

If you are somewhat ambulatory and are concerned about going down the stairs, just back down them. There are sturdy hand rails on both sides.

Hello, I absolutely love your videos. I am about to travel Amtrak Coast Starlight and need an accessible bedroom. Is the Satrlight a view or superliner? If it is a Superliner, it is a Superliner 2? I've seen two versions of an accessible bedroom. One with seats facing each other and one with a sofa for two. Thank you so much for bringing us so much wonderful information.

hey Train Gurus! Thank you for this ADA room tour. I will be traveling with my two sons - the 7 year old is in a wheelchair. I'd love some more insight into how the train system works for a person in a wheelchair. We'll be in an Accessible Bedroom. If we're getting on and off at unmanned stations, how does it work with extra equipment that needs to be checked and such? I don''t understand where the bags end up once we're onboard either. We need the floorspace to be available for transfers and such. We'd like to check one big bag and possibly another equipment item that will be too wide for the walkways on the train. (specialized custom walker).

i have a question. i have arthritis bone on bone knees, so i use one of those rollators not a wheel chair. i can not stand for very long at all. would i be able to use the accessible room even though i don't use a wheelchair? i need the bigger room too as i am a large person. how hard is it to get one of the accessible rooms? i went in and tried to see what was available like a year out and could not find any available. what are your recommendations to get one?

When you get onboard the Amtrak do they require the passengers to show that whether or not they have gotten the vaccines? Do they require for proof of vaccine shot to ride the Amtrak, that's what I mean. I heard people say all kind of different things, so just want to make sure. Thanks.

I haven't been able to get a straight answer from Amtrak about the Accessible Bedroom. Do you need a doctor's note or something like that?

DO NOT TAKE AMTRAK if you're booking an accessible room. They just cancelled my return from Denver to Emeryville ( first Amtrak experience ) because the potty was broken. All they can offer is a coach space for a week! So I have to go home stuck in my chair with no safe way to use the potty for 32-36 hours if there's no delays. They can't deliver what they promise. They've put me in danger. I'll never use the voucher they offered because WHY?

Does the super liner train have Wi-Fi?

Is there medical personnel on board.?

They really need a place for CPAPs or BIPAPs for both sleepers. The Viewliner would be fine enough, put the top in the luggage area, and the bottom on the folding table, and run a chord under the bed and up the wall. This is just not accessible enough.

Amtrak really needs to get new bedding

So these are not truly accessible for someone who is completely wheelchair bound. Good to know.

Seems to me this is an ADA disaster. Isn't Amtrak subject to mobility regulations?

I'd rather this video done by a person in a power wheelchair and their caregiver.
