Amy Adams and Andrew Garfield chatted during a taping of Variety‘s “Actors on Actors” on a range of topics, including their portrayals of comic-book icons.
I've seen a few of these interviews and some of them do not have great conversation. Lady Gaga and Jamie Lee Curtis: Actors on Actors Full, this is a great interview.
Have you heard a Newcastle, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Sunderland British accent? He has a posh southern English accent. They don't all sound like that.
I've noticed Amy always adapts to the people she's speaking to. She's very aware. She's not someone who's overly confident and draws all attention to herself, but instead rather quiet and observant. It feels like watching a psychologist. Adapts her tone and what she speaks about to her opposite. Asks the right questions and says the right things, the power of introverts
That’s so interesting actually because I was watching a Hollywood reporter round table that she was apart and the interviewer asked everyone what they would pursue if they didn’t act. She answered that she would get a degree in psychology or sociology, so you were spot on!
@@zozopourlesintimes she's actually an xNFP which makes sense, xNFJs don't have that sort of active and very deep kind of listening. you can check Dr. Dario Nardi's work on brain scanning types to further understand that
People feel actors are stupid because they usually talk about topics they don't know much about and insult their dissenters. Everyone is smarter at topics they're known thoroughly and are passionate about.
Not all actors and actresses are as self-aware and hold such a responsibility to their audience and such seriousness to their craft like these two you're looking at...especially Andrew Garfield, whose entire filmographic (a word?) resume is nothing but roles that really speak to humanity and provide much more to the viewer than the average garbage you see pumped out of the Hollywood machine. Some actors just do whatever crap is thrown their way, just shallow, meaningless, and frankly stupid scripts, and those people don't really evolve as people or spiritual beings. There is a very clear distinction between people like this and others in the "celebrity" light, and I can see why broad strokes are painted on these people because actors like Andrew aren't the majority or the norm.
Yeah, i see that actors really feel comfortable interview other actors instead of being interviewed by a journalist. This interview make each actors more comfortable
Adry Cayetano when she moves her face it looks normal. She definitely did now get any sort of Botox injections. I mean the less problematic you are the less you age.
The way Andrew talks about the Spidey movies :/ really loved him as both Spider-Man and Peter Parker, and Spider-Man is my favorite hero too, so it's heartbreaking to learn that he signed on to the movies to make great stories but then learning that the studio/machine has another plan in mind that compromises story and characters.
@@neilsonblack3829 That's not true. They are making lies just to find a reason to cancel the franchise because of the critics due to poor writing of the film. It has nothing to do with Andrew. Andrew is a really good actor who put his heart and soul into every role he plays and he would never say no to another Spider man movie.
Louis Lane interviewing Peter Parker for the Daily Planet, or Peter Parker interviewing Louis Lane for the Daily Bugle? Or maybe both discussing the world & art of journalism? We'll never know....
I think Andrew has an extremely deep understanding of the universe. Just by the few words he was able to talk about it, I felt it bro. I want to have a chat with him one day.
i hope no one takes this the wrong way, but in that we are just speaking of appearances, I think there is something inner that belies Amy Adam's continued outward youthful appearance. She has something inside of her seemingly pure and therefore more youthful. And that something wears relatively well with time as opposed to more cynical emotions. Of course other people could interpret that same thing as niavete or dullness. But since it's all subjective I really do feel it is a kind of purity. And it's beautiful.
Mitchell Murray I haven't seen Nocturnal Animals or Silence yet but Arrival and Hacksaw Ridge were both fantastic films and great vehicles to showcase their acting as well
@Disney65Fan before Enchanted she was already nominated for Oscar from Junebug. She had also been in big things like Catch Me If You Can and The Office. So i doubt that nobody knew who she was.
Leilani Apa Though it definitely looks that way, I think it's the other way around. Amy is so naturally composed and gentle with him. She really seems on top of her life and lacks any real ego.
You feel like you're in a different world when they speak about the experiences they go through when preparing for roles. I love that they talk about things that may seem absurd. These interviews are a goldmine for film lovers!! :D
Agreed. They seem to value big explosions of anger and miserable-crying rather than quiet, genuine acting like Amy does, which I believe is more difficult to do than those insane acts.
da96103 yeah the premise sounds like a cheesefest but that probably was the most dive-into-psyche horror since Mulholland Drive. So yeah, it's an awesome movie.
Andrews spiritual awareness about himself and everything and everyone around him is off the charts And Amy’s emotional awareness about everything and everyone around her is off the charts And seeing these two blend together is quite interesting
It warms my heart hearing how intently Andrew listens to Amy. You can tell he really respects her and her insight and I love that. I also love when she says that women in their 40s and 50s are awesome and he enthusiastically agrees with her.
You know, for being 42, Amy Adams look pretty damn amazing. If someone told me she is like 35, I would have believed them. She still has that girly quality, or how to say it. She does not come off like an older person. Stunning woman.
i think spiritually andrew garfield is spider-man/peter parker. the character isnt just a comic book hero. he is a spiritual warrior who is a seeker of higher truth. thats why i loved him as spider man and it killed the character for me them taking him out of those films. it was heading in such a good direction. then gwen died and that was it. I was just as heartbroken as he was.
I want a Spider man 4, and a Amazing Spider-Man 3, just to tie the loose endings together. I’m so nostalgic for these films and just want a complete ending to them all.
@@GoldPoptart Same, I haven't closed the door on the possibility in getting Andrew back again, and I'm serious when I say that stranger things have happened, who would have thought that after thirteen years since he portrayed him that Brandon Routh was coming back as Superman for Crisis On Infinite Earths, or that J.K. Simmons came back as J. Jonah Jameson for Far From Home, like I said, stranger things can happen
It's so, very very refreshing watching filmmakers talk about their movies without being asked about their diet, their outfits or their pranks and chemistry with their co-stars. I was invested in this conversation from start to end; and they really managed to put a lot of thoughts I've always had into intellegent words that make so much sense. That's truly very uplifting.
I could watch these two chat for another two hours. Very cool, down to earth actors here. Amy Adams is a doll and I love how she still seems so 'normal' even though she has worked in Hollywood for years. She really knows how to balance work and life. Garfield has already bypassed many established actors his age and proven that his career will be A-list only from here on out.
Elmer Ortiz yeah, she deserves it too, but Amy was nominated 5 times before, so I think she could get it. Unless she is considered the next Glenn Close 😂 so many nominations and still no Oscar
Amy and Andrew ahead the same birthday. Only 9 years apart.. They both look young for their age I can totally feel they related so much and connected in this video.
I 100% agree with Mr. Garfield said about Arrival. Like, fully and completely. I didn't have the words for it, but it indeed transcended going to a movie, that is exactly what it felt like.
This was a lovely, engaging segment, and quite candid, as well. Glad to see them genuinely interested in each other, and their processes. They should work together, sometime, if they haven't done so already.
I love how they completely respect each other in a conversation setting, acknowledging each other's presence and more importantly, what they had to say, constantly referring to what each said earlier and using that as reference points for what they had to say next. (Also can I just say I didn't know Amy is 42!!!)
I also relate so much re: the recurring dreams, I've always had a thematically recurring dream it's always been a subject of interest for me personally.
Adams works on screen because she perfectly mirrors what the audience may be feeling at any particular moment. shock, surprise, sadness, grief. It's as if Adams is at once on the screen and in the audience.
I bet part of why Amy doesn't mind mentioning her age is because people respond shocked, thinking that she looks so much younger (and still so incredibly beautiful) ❤️❤️❤️
SO glad another lot of these were released! Honestly the only things on RU-vid I can watch a half hour video and be interested the whole time. Such a great concept
As for Amy's performance, I've always seen her as an actress that can communicate a lot through her eyes and facial expressions, even if she remains silent, which is very meaningful in this movie where it's all about communicating on different levels. Also, I loved that she said the director wanted her to feel like she had "vertigo" as he used a filming technique (for the scene when they enter the spaceship for the first time and move through dimensions in a confusing way, making you feel disoriented in terms of what is up and what is down or what is back and what is forward) that was invented by Hitchcock in Vertigo for the first time. Truly remarkable parallels.
Well you never know. You may fail 1000000 times and hear thousands of “No’s” but all it takes is one “yes” and one success and one opportunity and suddenly everyone knows your name :)
yes yes yes! keep on grinding the streets and the auditions. You never know. You never know. Look at Room actress forgot her name she kept getting No's and No's look at her now. She's a good actress it's just that nobody gave her a chance until of course Room so if you're truly passionate about acting keep it going, someone will look through you and will notice the spark I promise. I'm also going to keep on grinding but on the directors part it's much harder but if we don't make it happen then when ? life is too short for cubicle life, too short.
I am so thankful for the hype that the new Spiderman movies bought to Andrew Garfield's work and person. I watched his Spiderman movies now and I am hooked by his real character. This man is a genius.
For me, Amy Adams is one of the few actors you see for the first time and you wait for the end credits to scroll down to find out who that actor is. Love her voice and and just now discovered that Andrew Garfield is English. Today's focus was on the voice.
Amy Adams was supremely brilliant and should have been rewarded for her role in American Hustle. She looked gorgeously convincing as a 70’s/80’s high-class grifter. Can’t wait for her re-teaming with Christian Bale in the upcoming Vice
sometimes its hard to relate to some of the things they say about their job and about their experiences but then you hear something so simple and so universal and then you realize they are just simply, people
