These two hosts/interviewers are the best on these round tables whoever they are interviewing they bring up interesting and insightful questions, let the dialogue breathe and flow naturally, and let the people they interview give them time to think of answers without rushing them or cutting them off. I am saying have them do more round tables in the future. Thanks.

Okay, but the more recent roundtables also get edited and they're moderated terribly (and or edited terribly). And the questions they usually get on both the tv and film roundtables are terrible. At least Wilson here does a phenomenal great job, even if it is edited-- I miss Wilson as the host

She''s really hot. And totally talentless, unfunny and personality-free. Her only claim to fame is an old school sketch comedy show that hasn't been funny in decades. It's important to remember: 1. just because something is popular doesn't mean it's good and 2. the general viewing public has really bad taste. The list of untalented unfunny people who somehow got their own tv show is long and sad. These women are complaining about the very same things that ANY actor has to deal with in a shallow shitty business. But they're just spinning it to make it about racism or sexism. They are confusing failure due to lack of talent with failure due to racism or sexism. Whenever they don't get what they think they should have gotten it's because of race or sex.

not to prove your point by making this about gender but just because only a man would write this... of course you'd fucking say that being a man. you don't know where they're coming from because you don't fight their battles in the industry. If you're gonna call anyone there talentless, the last person you should call out is McKinnon. I won't continue cause obvsly you're just a little shit but srsly mate, open your damn mind and try not to say such stupid shit. they all 100% have talent. what they're saying about the disparities among women...is true. yes it may be true that all actors deal with shitty situations, it's also true that outspoken females get a lot of shit for something a man would never get shit for. it's just what it is. they're just trying to raise awareness so people like you don't go around convinced that nothing is happening. something is happening and you should admire them for speaking up about it despite them knowing they'll get shit for it. good day

Look . Most actors are insecure that's why they delve into individuals who arnt in there comfort zone. They try desperately to be somthing there not, they pretend and let's be honest that what acting is to deflect the pain and confusion of the life theyve created for themselves, Do I sound bitter.? NO JUST REALISTIC.

I love fresh off the boat, but because it's funny, not because they "promote" Asians. Personally I think the moment we reach equality is when it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if the main character is white, black or Asian. It doesn't matter if a particular character is male or female (like, if it's a medieval knight I get it has to be white guy).

It seems like Lena feels that everyone needs her stamp of approval. Not one woman spoke on this round table without Lena feeling the need to pass judgment on their work. Let these other women, who have worked so hard and has such different experiences than you, speak. You claim to be an intersectional feminist? Well 99% of that is listening and not pretending you have experienced the horrors that these women have. Stop speaking over these amazing women and let them share what they have been through. You have spoken and shared about your experiences, and It's time for u to let others share theirs.

Having resources to educate yourself is not the same as knowing you need an education in something. That is the definition of ignorance, if someone does not consider what they are doing to be racist how are they going to know where or how to educate themselves if someone else does not bring it to their attention???
@orion8835
@orion8835 4 года назад
It’s a bit more complicated . I think people are looking for power. And often those people are many negative things including racist stances of expression. So therefore the race issue gets dragged into it versus it being even really plausible beyond their bullshit. We now know every race can play at the roles of life .

@PurushaDesa

antidylan I actually think a lot of the conversation was unfairly geared towards viewing these actors as activists first and artists second, in a way that is not expected of men. I would go so far as to say there's a subtle sexism at play launching right into the "women questions" as opposed to getting to know them as performers at the top of their game. To that end, Kate McKinnon comes across as less interested in social issues as much as her craft, hence she spoke less - and that's totally fine cos I'd rather hear a great comedienne like McKinnon just deconstruct their process for an hour.

It's important to discuss bigotry, but THR always clogs up the entire interview with bait questions that come from a place of female disadvantage. These are all such funny, smart women; it's a shame more time couldn't be spent discussing technique, creative process, etc.
@biancac412
@biancac412 8 лет назад
Paul Miller Because it's a thing that women go through especially WoC and something most of them speak about often. They're not bait questions, they're issues that needs to be talked about. Can you not handle women sharing their experiences? It's a roundtable discussion that goes in many different directions not a comedic standup routine.
@PaullyMiller
@PaullyMiller 8 лет назад
Bianca Clark I was referring to questions like, 'What is the most sexist thing that ever happened to you?' It is important to talk about, but these are women who are doing amazing things, who've earned their place in their careers, yet THR never seem to open up conversations about craft, passion, and creativity. It makes me think of a point I've heard many black actors make: that what there isn't enough of in films is stories about black people that aren't seen through the lens of white experience, i.e., a story about how a black person is treated in a white society, vs. stories where the character's "blackness" doesn't function solely to contextualize "whiteness". Similarly, when these roundtable talks frame the performer's experiences primarily in terms of their challenges within a misogynistic society, more so than about all the other things that make up their life experiences, we shortchange the potential of the interview. This comes from the perspective of a gay man who has been cornered by well-meaning people at parties who want to discuss gay issues when I feel like that is only one aspect of my experiences. If you'd like to have an earnest conversation about this, wonderful: if you'd rather misinterpret my comment for the sake of argument, I decline to participate.
@PaullyMiller
@PaullyMiller 8 лет назад
Bianca Clark Maybe the better way to say it would have been that, in addition to what was discussed, I would have enjoyed more insight into the rest of these amazing women's experiences, the empowering people in their lives, the things that turn them on creatively, as well as the obstacles.
@biancac412
@biancac412 8 лет назад
Paul Miller Ok I get what you're saying. there could've definitely have been room for both. I was more of a fan of the dramatic actresses roundtable where they took on on a wide array of subjects such as discussing their craft, embodying their roles, and the obstacles they've faced as women, WoC etc. There wasn't a particular subject set so I was just appreciative to hear them get together and speak. Unfortunately a lot of what they spoke about plays a huge part in their careers, so for me I found it empowering to hear their stories regardless if they didn't exactly fit in how they prepare for their roles and whatnot
@PaullyMiller
@PaullyMiller 8 лет назад
Bianca Clark I get that and, on examining your first comment, I realize my first one could easily be misunderstood or viewed as someone uncomfortable with the topic, trying to shut it down. I did enjoy how they shared their experiences and found laughter (always a balm) in reliving some of the misogyny they've encountered. One telling moment when I was trying to phrase my response to you last night: I wanted to make the point that the reporters don't ask the men these kinds of questions, but then I realized that is the point in a nutshell. If men aren't on the disadvantaged side of the bigotry, they don't really have stories like this to share. Although, perhaps if questions came from a more general place like, "Talk about when something made you feel the most vulnerable or exploited in your career..." then everyone - regardless of gender or ethnicity - could share and find common ground.

However, over the course of this conversation, Lena talked a lot more. She touched base on a lot of systemic issues in society. She talked about institutionalised sexism, rape culture, and our relationship as men to those issues. She's an incredibly smart and well informed woman who knows her gender politics. Don't confirmation bias. We could all learn something from her.

+Camara F Yeah and she also talked a lot over the other women at the table. She talked for a full 2 minutes longer than anyone else at the table as they discussed racism and constantly interrupted the two women of color as well. She also didn't change her show a single bit to address her whitewashing the fuck out of new york. If she's so informed she should write a book about her brand of white feminism instead of wasting the time and silencing the voices of women of color who are so rarely heard in a forum like this in Hollywood. It'd be a terrible book but it'd be better than anecdotes about molesting her sister.

What a great roundtable. I can honestly say that I love each and every one of these women. So talented and intelligent. I look forward to their routines, their shows, and their specials Couple of things:. I was surprised when a few (two) of the women reacted in shock to Lena Dunham's story about the overtly misogynistic male actor (alcoholic) who disparaged her, and the show. I cannot believe the amount of vitriol and hatred and abject BS these women face in print, on youtube and throughout the net. From Tina and Amy, to the gamergate, to Lena and beyond, a rage-filled male audience adept at hiding behind anonymity and spewing their hatred at any woman who is successful, did it without a male partner or male assistance, and is open about the whole thing. Lena Dunham seems to have been singled out for extra special treatment from these losers, she has actually gotten to the point where she won't respond to them anymore. Sexism and misogyny and threats of violence against women are rampant in our culture, mostly thanks to the internet and the ability for losers (cannot get or keep a girlfriend) to hide behind anonymity and vent at successful women. Or any woman for that matter. These losers are not the majority of men, but they are an incredibly vocal and net-savvy minority. My psychology professor says that these types of men are the embittered losers who have found an avenue to vent their rage while being able to hide. Classic narcissistic bullies.
