"Tywin is astounded, and Tyrion asks him to do him a favor and die quickly. For once, his father did what Tyrion asked him. The proof was the sudden stench, as his bowels loosened in the moment of death. Well, he was in the right place for it, Tyrion thought. But the stink that filled the privy gave ample evidence that the oft-repeated jape about his father was just another lie. Lord Tywin Lannister did not, in the end, shit gold."
The book’s description of how pervasive the stench of Tywin’s body was compared to the average deceased. 😂 GRRM always knows how to poetically end people.
Why is season 4 the favorite? I mean, you got Joffrey's death, Tyrion's trial speach, Lysa's death, Oberyn's death, the battle of Castle Black, Brienne and the Hound fight AND Tyrion killing his lover and his own father? What more do you want lol
It is definitely the best consistent season. Maybe the highs are not as good as other seasons. But in other seasons they are just a couple of episodes. Some people would rank a season higher because of that 1 or 2 extremely epic episodes.
Tbf tho s4 is wheen they started changing up the books but it's still good because it's the climax of many plot points but the dialogue and storytelling certainly did drop and that's why I prefer s1 slightly@@ZiadJimmy
I would like to add a few more: - all the Littlefinger revelations, showing how deep in the game he is - the one on one fights (Jon vs Styr, Jon vs Karl, Brienne vs Hound, Mountain vs Viper) - Ramsay becoming a Bolton and the fact we felt happy for him for a second despite his monstrous nature is good writing - Jon meeting Stannis, forming a link between the Iron Throne storyline and the Wall storyline (Jon’s story so far has been isolated) - Bran’s story actually gets interesting - Daenerys deals with the consequences of her well-intentioned actions (killing hundreds of people without fact-checking; freeing hundreds people without seeing what they want; forgetting that dragons are not her children, they are beasts)
@Yosuif12 I have to disagree with this. They did deviate more in this season, but the dialogue wasn't noticeably worse until season 5, particularly because of the loss of Tywin & assassination of Tyrion's character. When it was coming out this season was especially peak television because every episode either ended on a banger or a hanger. 1. Hound & Arya fuck up Lannisters 2. Jofferey fucking dies 3. Daenerys conqueres Meereen 4. The Night King claims another of Kraster's children 5. Jon defeated the rebels but Bran escapes them all 6. Tyrion demands Trial by Combat 7. Oberon names himself as champion & Lysa is murdered 8. Pedro has a mind blowing performance 9. Ygritte dies and Jon goes to assassinate Mance 10. Tyrion kills his father on the privy
13:13 Daenerys' thoughts during this scene in the books: "Mother of dragons? Mother of monsters! What have I unleashed upon the world? A queen I am, but my throne is made of burned bones and it rests on quicksand. Without dragons, how could she hope to hold Meereen much less win back Westeros? I am the blood of the dragon, she thought. If they are monsters...so am I." Daenerys II, ADWD
"If they are monster, so am i." That, my friend, is George's next level foreshadowing 😃😃 that is why i--- ---SPOILER--- . . . . . never complain about her ending in the show. It is foreshadowed since the first book that she will bring destruction and fire and blood to Westeros...
@@basicsimp8798 baffling? it was literal foreshadowing. The ending for Dany made perfect sense but it happened too quick. If they went with the original plan of 10 seasons, *chefs kiss*
Nah Brig is right lol. The lore and mystery around Bran's quest is super interesting, but the wood elves popping out with grenades was a silly AF scene that takes you out of the show. One other point to make: yes, a lot of people will say the show generally goes downhill from here. That may be true BUT that's talking about seasons as a whole. There are individual episodes and scenes coming up that go harder than anything you've seen so far. Some incredible GoT is still to come.
There is 1 scene in season 5 that comes close. Everything else from this point on is just so in your face or nonsensical, the writing and dialogue fall off a cliff and they rely on fan service and shock value.
Season 6 has some fantastic episodes, as well. But yeah, in general the show starts to fall apart after this, before it completely craters in seasons 7 and 8.
The entire Tyrion thing this episode was actually quite different in the books and is where Tyrion takes a darker turn. He meets Jaime and has a conversation where Jaime reveals that the whore he liked when he was young actually loved him back and that Tywin had Jaime make Tyrion believe otherwise, then Tyrion gets angry and lies saying that HE killed Joffrey, a horrible way to part ways. Then afterwards in the secret tunnels Varys intentionally tells Tyrion the path to go kill Tywin without making it seem like he's advocating for it (Having someone else hold the dagger haha) Tyrion kills Shae in cold blood, no sadness. Then he goes and confronts Tywin and kills him which is mostly the same but he mentions Tysha I believe (the whore he loved) Interesting differences.
S4 is, to me, perfect, but I do wish they would have kept the original plot of the last episode in. But for what it's worth, Tyrion really hasn't had a lot of time with Jaime and this isn't a terrible adaptation, only the original one was a bit more substantive, even if it left things more bitter and cynical. As for the episode itself, it wraps up plenty of character arcs and sets up the next. Amazing show so far, too bad it's all downhill from here on out 💀
It's a great episode, but looking back this is where some of the issues with the later seasons start. Tyrion in the books is completely different after this than what he is in the show. Omitting the Tysha confession is a really significant and baffling change from the books. I guess they wanted Tyrion to continue being a hero
@@olwill1321 The signs have been there I think, as for Tyrion in the show he's always been incredibly different imo, the show just stuck to the same narrative and the changed Tyrion worked fine within the confines of that story, but now as the story progresses the differences end up showing far more than they did before
When someone asked me where GoT started to fail, I point to this omission. After this incident, Tyrion literally completely changes as a character in the books. He is fucking shook to the CORE. Show Tyrion kinda doesnt change much at all, he goes to *SPOILERS* and continue as the same guy.
DEFENDING SHAE. I don't know if many people defend Shae. What I do know is that Shae is a woman in a feudal environment and comes from the common folk. Women in such a context don't have it easy. Look at the women of noble birth: Cersei, Sansa, Alicent, Rhaenyra, always relegated as second-class citizens, used for marriage and beauty, not as intelligent beings. Now, look at women like Shae or Mysaria. In a world like GoT or HotD, they must do what they must to survive. They have loyalty only to themselves. We can't demand from them, for example, loyalty to Tyrion from Shae. She always told Tyrion who she was. Shae was simply fighting to survive in the game. Tyrion had promised her that she would never lack anything, and with Tyrion imprisoned for regicide, the contract between them was void. The problem is that Tyrion (and we as spectators too) never understood that Shae was always loyal to herself, to her convictions, and her context as a commoner woman in a world like Game of Thrones. We can't blame her for acting that way.
@@blaubeer8039But it reached a point where it didn’t seem like an act anymore. Tyrion was upset because she had told him she loved him several times and talked about having a family together- then she goes and fs Tywin and betrays him in court. I loved Shae for how she treated Sansa but that wasn’t okay
Lets not forget the part where Shae literally asked him to leave King's Landing with her, because it was getting too dangerous. Tyrion replied that he enjoys playing the game, and outthinking the other players in King's Landing. He basically killed her with his own hands when he refused to leave with her, due to his own hubris.
The travels of Arya and The Hound is one of my favorite arcs from the show. The way they both taught, and learned from each other was some of the top character development.
I really hope they're able to capture the magic with their Hedge Knight adaptation. Dunk and Egg adventures? Atmosphere so much different than the Westeros we've seen thusfar, but SO GOOD
Petyre last episode “people die at their tables, in their beds, people die squatting over their chamber pots” man accidentally predicted tywins death lmao
In the books (SPOILERS IN CASE YOU WANT TO READ THEM) Jaime confesses to Tyrion that Tysha, the girl he married all those years ago, was in fact NOT a whore and Tywin told Jaime to lie to Tyrion. This poor girl got raped by all of Tywin's men for loving Tyrion. When Tyrion asks Tywin where did Tysha go, he said "wherever whores go", so Tyrion kill him. So much more heartbreaking. Also he hates Jaime for what his part on the lie and basically wants all his family dead lmao.
Damn wth man 😭 Tyrions character literally has the most tragic past. His own father and sister hated him the moment he was born 😢 then he found a woman that actually loved him and Tywin does that…
It wasn't shae that is the catalyst. It's Tywin himself. He betrays his son so many times. He had Tyrion's childhood wife raped, proclaiming her a whole when she wasn't. Demanded Tyrion not bring his whole, Shae to KL & then at first opportunity, sleeps with her himself. So many other betrayals. Tywin had it coming.
@@CandorHispanusShe’s not really to blame. She’s just a wh0re involved in some stuff way out of her league. If Tywin tells her he wants to spend time with her, do you think she’s in a position to say no? Like use your brain.
@@CandorHispanus She isn't completely blameless but the amount of hate that she gets is completely disproportionate. Tywin was the biggest monster, that was the whole point. Even after he killed her, he was still angrier at his father than her.
I think one of the most interesting things about GoT is that after so many shows tried and still try to copy it but they learned all the wrong lessons. "Lets film our show super unlit, and murder a lot of the characters". Except thats not what made the show good, it was the writing. So many plot points, so obviously long planned out and foreshadowed. So much great dialogue, so much love for even the smaller characters like the Hound or Brienne of Tarth that make that encounter tragic. Other shows think they can just shoot that scene and people will care.
Danys have her announcers call out "breaker of chains" as one of her many titles. Yet she puts big ass chains on her very own "children". Just a thought
I love how they underestimate Cersei, saying she’s not smart enough, she’s too emotional… if there’s one thing anyone learned from season 1 is that she knows how to play the game better than most.
@@johntheXIt’s not even that, it’s more that she’s clearly smart enough because so far she’s been able to read people and how much of a threat they pose very well. She knows how to play the game. She’s also a major hater and will do anything to destroy her enemies. That combination makes her a much more complex and relevant character than they give her credit for in my opinion.
What littlefinger said just a few episodes prior "People die at their dinner tables, they die in their beds, they die squatting over their chamber pots", all of these end up happening this season.
I didn't read the books so i might be wrong, but imo Arya not killing the Hound showed that while she still didn't like him, he did enough for her to have his name off that list.
yep, dany changed a whole society (as she should). and just like every revolution, she's dealing with all the problem that comes with it. regardless of the problems Meereen might face, it's still better than before. one former slave can't speak to all. a person who had a high prestigious job and was treated like a human being, wanting to go back to their master, doesn't mean it was better with slavery system. we cant compare the lives of grey worm and missandei with that guy. “I never held much with slavery. You can't just go using another kind of people, like they wasn't people at all. Got to end, sooner or later. Better if it ends peaceful, but it's got to end even if it has to be with *fire and blood*" - GRRM
They traveled from the iron bank on ships and landed north of the wall… remember they were about to kill the onion knight for letting Gendry go until they got that letter from Castle Black and spared him… Stannis answered the call for help 💪
Hit the nail on the head with Tywins death on the toilet being poetic but also Shae's death was poetic. She turned on Tyrion for Lannister gold, she was strangled to death by a Lannister gold necklace
It actually isn’t like that in the books. Share never loved Tyrion in the books and he knows it, they don’t have a real relationship but Tyrion is so shallow and lonely he makes her pretend that they do. She also never betrays him, cause she was beaten my Cersei and forced to lie on the stand. Tyrion knows all this yet kills her anyways. In the books Tyrion stops being a “good person” but for some reason the show made Shae the villain in their story. Really weird.
Remember this feeling, this is the best feeling youll have after a finale. Most hope filled, best season plot conclusions, things appeared to matter long-term. The music score when arya's final scene goes, it was magic
my favourite season is season 6, a lot of people have said i’m crazy for that, but it’s where my favourite character shines (not saying who, of course)
This is my fave Season and I believe it was the last season with GRRM at the helm. Seeing Bran at the tree was the epic mindfuck that sets us up for all the crazy that comes after.
As a peasant woman in medieval times, Shae's very survival hinges on her capacity to put her own interests first, lest she succumb to the ever-present dangers of poverty, illness, and death that threaten her daily life.
31:28 „None of the wildlings have horses.“ In the books, they do. But a loose group of undisciplined wildlings with stone (at most bronze) weapons on shaggy, short-legged, sturdy wildling horses is something different entirely from a charging battle formation of huge, muscular horses bred for war, ridden by trained Westerosi knights in gleaming armor and with steel weapons. Add to that the element of surprise and the wildlings don‘t stand the slightest chance even though they outnumber Stannis‘ men.
Can't be anything under a ~9.5 honestly. Its peak GOT no matter how many times we've seen this season. For the record, its actually a valid defense move, in medieval history hand to hand combat, when someone with a sword hesitates on a disarmed person, to actually use your hands on the blade just like the Hound did to Brienne. It works. You get wounded sure, but you can turn a loss into a win by basically making the enemy unable to use the sword to kill you. Hesitation costs.
The main thing that bring every single season after this one down is the show losing it's sense of sense. Even the highpoint of season six is, upon analysis, one of the most ridiculous things this show's put to screen lol.
@@jossecoupe446The Battle of the Bastards is great to look at, but when you actually think about it, a lot of stuff leading up to it doesn't make sense lol
14:14 Absolutely love Daenerys’ Breaker of Chains theme, and its first rendition here in the series. Perhaps my favorite piece of the entire series, those mournful strings always get me. Breaker of Chains is also noticeably played in the Prophecy scenes in HOTD in episode 1 & 4.
I will never understand why the showrunners skipped the confesion of Jamie to Tyrion about his former wife, it makes the "say whore again" motive make much more sense.
I feel like it would destroy the brotherly love they were building up this whole season which I like very much personally I am glad they didn't put it in also I feel like the "say whore again" still makes sense bc it was more about Shae never liking it when they would refer to her as a whore
Fun fact (BOOK SPOILER) in the books Jamie confesses that he lied about Tyrions old wife being a whore, saying their dad convinced him it was for the best. This makes Tyrion hate Jamie so he basically the only family he still likes is Cerseis children (except Joffrey)
I just can't wait for you guys to get to s06. S04 is amazing, but s06 is gonna blow your brains out 😁 Also the predictions from some of you looolllll At one of them (the fans will know) I gasped, it was so random and out of the blue, but so accurrate it's insane
All seasons ranked: 1) season 4🔥🔥🔥🔥 2) season 6🔥🔥🔥 3) season 3😄 4) season 2 5 season 1 6) season 7😮 7) season 5😶 8) season 8🤔 Tbh 7th and 6th spot are interchangeable. I personally think the guys at Cinemagek are going to like season 6 the most.
till thay point Shae was an amazing character, changed Tyrion, helped Sansa, lot of things. What She did is definitely not ok, but its what it is, many characters did a lot of awful things, even Jamie first episode.
This is why this shows is called the goat , i mean you guys are enjoying and saying this is cinema . But still the best episodes haven't even arrived yet 😂
There is a theory that oberyn had already poisoned tywin. Tywin was constipated and after his death his bowels emptied on the toilet. Apparently his body stank even after death. Hell of a way for a man who cared about nothing but his dignity to go. So even if Tyrion hadn't shot him he would've died from oberyn's poison anyway.
Season 4 is where the GOT Hype picked up. I was watching the series regularly since Season 3, but I could see the shift in air when Season 4 came. So many people started watching the show.
Please ignore all the comments telling you this is the ending of the show. Watch and make up your own minds!! You need to put aside other people's pre-conceived notions and people trying to make you pre-hate a show is the definition of "spoiling". The enjoyment (joy in doing something) doesn't come from having everything go the way you wanted it to go, but simply emotionally engaging, fully, whether positive or negative at times, but according to your own thoughts and feelings. Praise the show when it deserves praise, criticize the show when it deserves criticism, according to your own lights.
This!👏🏾👏🏾 It’s so unbelievably frustrating. No matter how GOT reactors try to form their own opinions you can see many of them begin to look for flaws instead of just going on the journey because of the inundation of comments from the “it’s all downhill after 4” gang.😒
they already knew the general consensus before they even started the show. They also constantly monitor imdb ratings of each episode/season before they even watch it. Nothing in the comments is going to sway them any more than they already are.
@@mandalor1810 You’re probably be right…although the general consensus is that the ending wasn’t up to par not that the show ends at season 4 which is what we’re referring to. You could argue that them closely monitoring IMBD would would garner the same expectation setting as the comments but it surely doesn’t make it any less frustrating…let them have the luxury of the journey that you were afforded.I wish someone would tell the “just stop here” folks that nothing is going to sway them more than they already are…then maybe they’d 🤫😂
I remember beaing really surprised when I saw Qyrells actor in a pretty central role in Andor, but after a few scenes the casting made perfect choice. Here he's in a servile role, but the way he speaks lends both logic and weight to his words.
it's crazy to see people hate shae MORE than twyin. shae isn't a saint, she did things wrong too. but really, the real villain to tyrion was tywin. shae loved him, and tywin NEVER DID when he was supposed to because that's his own son lmao. tywin even hates him! shae betrayed tyrion when she had no choice anymore and tyrion made her hate him. but tywin just betrays tyrion in the sense that tywin won't even try to save his own son's life. in fact, he looked like he was even happy that tyrion's sentenced to death.
you guys should check out the video "Westerosi Rhapsody" it came out around this time when people werent sure if Tyrion was going to make it or not so my favorite line in the song is "Cuz IF Tyrion dies, I'm never watching again!!!" its an awesome song but you have to watch the video too!
This episode epitomizes the recurring use of the title to refer to multiple meanings within the episode... "The Children" Obviously, the Children of the Forest. All of Tywin's children rebelled in some way. Two of the Stark children achieved one of their goals. Dany was forced to imprison her "children" (albeit, only two of them, for the misdeeds of the third).
Man this finale reminds me of another finale down the road that many people consider to be one of the greatest episodes of the show. If you know, you know.
In the books Varys is a Blackfyre (Targaryen bastard house) he shaves his silver hair and was castrated because there is magic in a king's blood. He is helping another Blackfyre, Aegon, who he raised, take the throne by pretending he is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen (Aegon has silver hair too), Varys was behind marrying Danny to the Dothraki so that when the savages invade, his Aegon would cross the sea and save the realm from their rape and destruction. Everyone would think Aegon is the saviour but the truth is Varys puppeteered everything. His Aegon is badass too, some call him the mummer's dragon.
You can Pay with 3 things, you can pay The Gold Price, you can pay the Blood Price, or you can pay the Iron Price. Arya's coin represents the Iron price.
