Thanks for featuring my game! this was a joy to watch! Would love to hear how it goes if you run it. For magic, I usually take a cool spell from media I like or another game and tie it to an item (sometimes one that takes up two slots) and either give them limited use or require an Erudite check to cast. Or I use ritual magic and casting a spell is an adventure itself. the more diegetic and less mechanical is how I like to approach magic. I think you've inspired me to blog🤓about tunnel goons magic!

I’m currently attempting to make a 2D6, and saw that this is very similar. Can I use some of the rules as inspiration?

@@hattiemiller2982 Tunnel Goons uses the Creative Commons 4.0 International License, so yes! You can absolutely do that. There's a great community on itch of other people doing just that.

Goons I'm ok with. But in a tunnel? maybe going too far.

For games like this, I find that setting expectations for failure before the roll is made helps tremendously when questions would normally arise, like "what happens if I don't make this resist poison check?" Do they die? Do they get paralyzed? Do they lose a point from a stat? It also helps to establish tension for that die roll.

Hmm youtube really isn't wanting me to watch D&D content lately. Yesterday it was Bandits Keep Video not working, now this one.

I do wonder how often games of this nature are actually run. I see them more as a throw-away item, try once, "oh that was cool", and then (mostly?) forgotten. I also wonder how much such games fragment the hobby, distractions from getting down for some "meaningful" RPGing. Of course, there is no such thing as "meaningful" RPGing :) so don't take that comment too seriously! If it's fun, good!

I'm sure a lot are just collected and read but on the other hand there nature makes them easier to get to the table, short and easy to pickup at the table. So I don't even see fragmention as a thing, they are filling a different role than the big RPGs. For the times when players are missing, short play time, someone new wants to try GMing, in-between big campains and if they are a hit at the table you can add to or hack it into something longer.

I think that you need to focus more in "what do you want?" With a game. The vision of think that a "meaningful RPG" is the one that let you do long campaigns with evolving characters and tons of content was formed by the DnDcentrism. But there is not a "correct way" to play ttrpgs, in other parts of the world the most common way to play is a series of oneshots (many from different systems). Also I look this game excellent for showing the hobby to new people. Thats the greatest virtue for me
