The main reason I watch these is cause it's a dream to see a mechanic so dedicated on doing the job right. Hard to find a mechanic who would either know how to do it right or even take the time to do it. Thanks for showing this cause I replaced the original motor on my older Toyota and realize I probably messed up the jam protection and auto roll up.

I was in in the car business for 50+ years...started out as a mechanic and it was always my first love. I retired a few years ago when I sold the 7 dealership auto group that I owned. I do not miss owning the dealerships...I do miss twisting wrenches. I employed hundreds of technicians over the years and I can count maybe 20 that I considered to be true artists that took pride in their craft. You would be one of them. I salute you.

Those threads are left uncut from the factory for a reason, very common actually, as the screws are made to cut their own thread so it’s tight on the screws and doesn’t rattle loose over the years, also hence the soft metal (think of it as a form of “loc-tite”. A lot of my snowmobile components are like that being extreme vibration and lesser chance of the fasteners comings out)

When you said Ecru is reminded me that in 1990 after the LS had been out for about 6 months there were many complaints about the Lt beige floor mats and Lexus changed to Taupe, we replaced many for free. Then in 2001 after all those Lexus engineers that were there in 1990 retired or left the Ecru showed up again ! Many complaints later changed to darker color.

I believe the screws are designed to make threads in that soft pot metal when installed. I ran into the same thing when installing a new side mirror on a BMW. The screws go in very hard the first time due to lack of threads, but make a nice thread even though they don't look like a self-tapping screw.
@robertroberts7166
@robertroberts7166 3 месяца назад
The issue begins if one of those threads made with the screw gets in a bit crooked...
@TheCarCareNut

Some of them are like that but usually window motors are not like that

The screws should have made the threads the first time going in. It's not common in the window motors but it does happen
@jase9951

Pot metal is a soft, malleable metal. I think the intent of the design is for the material to be compressed outward by the screw, rather than removing material with a tap, resulting in very weak threads.

I've done "some" of what you've done to your car when I had my 87 Ford Ranger. Many years ago I replaced front and rear lenses, front grille and emblem, some door parts to both doors, front suspension parts and other items. They all helped the truck go longer, but after several more years then at 30 total years with me and it's last smog test a failure, it was time to go. In 2020 I got the RAV4. It's a joy to drive. Thank you AMD for the engine coolant removal/replacement AND how to verify it's done correctly. It worked so easy! This year is the 8 speed automatic transmission fluid change using your instructions. However I think my XTOOL D8BT will help with that job. Your recommendation was why I bought it. Nice work on your car! Hope the future driving shows how the car can help to make it a pleasant one!

To know how to diagnose, troubleshoot and fix problems in today’s world is exceptional. My arms and back hurt just watching this wonderful mechanic do his work as well as my knees. Working on cars is physically demanding as well as the mental stress is insane and that is not even dealing with the customer, excellent work great content really enjoy your channel
