Finally! an easy to solder 4.4mm balanced jack ;) In this video I take a look at the clever new 4.4mm jack design from aeco which makes it much easier to get a good solid solder joint when building balanced cables.

I have always struggled with a 4.4mm - I thought it was just me! Nice design, just looked at the price though - €55!! I'll keep struggling.

Yes, I know what you mean.... it is a bit pricey but it gives me hope than there may be something similar for a more sensible price in the future. I am doing a bit of cable design work for a new company with deeper pockets than mine so these will probably be good for that.

Yes, given the choice, 4 pin XLR is loads easier to work with bit if you have to go 4.4... this one is pretty easy to work with

4.4 jack has a place for soldering a shield. Should shielded cable be used or not? Will the lack of shielding affect the sound in any way? Is it possible to experience interference and/or unwanted noises?

on headphone cables... as it is normally quite a high power signal, shielding is not really necessary and will increase the capacitance quite a lot as well as making the cable heavier and less flexible. There are some headphones that use a shielded cable like the beyerdynamic T1 but personally, I think unshielded headphone cables are better in most cases

Does the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro has a similar cable? I don't have a dremel and I would find much easier just to change the jack from 3.5mm to a 4.4 or 2.5mm balanced. If the Beyerdynamic 770 Pro can have the same treatment that you did in this video, how can I know which ground belongs to which side? Also there is the "OEAUDIO MULTI PLUG Set of Interchangeable 2.5mm / 3.5mm / 4.4mm Jack Connectors", which would allow me to have a DT 770 Pro that one day is balanced, next day is 3.5mm unbalanced, just by changing the jack.

The stock 3.5mm cable on the DT770 only has three wires (L, R, G) so the whole thing needs to be replaced. It is possible to directly solder a 4.4mm cable onto the wires coming from the drivers though@@sophiebourne7642

yes as @tejp5101 said... the stock cable only has 3 wires so won't be suitable. You could replace the stock cable with a 4 wire one without dremeling if you find a 4 core wire with a similar thickness.
