If you are looking for trolls keep reading beyond this comment, because you know its the internet. If you want a legit comment about the content of the video, read on. This is video for those DIY people on a budget. No where does it say that this is how to professionally install carpets. I run a equipment rental company and help people do projects all the time. This video is great. It's super simple and easy to understand. The tools are cheap. All these people talking about carpet stretchers need to understand budget/cost and how that effects home owners. I am not a professional and do not claim to be. Let this guy put out some decent content to help people save some money. You keep doing you Edgar Ramos. Forget these carpet haters.
I agree. But I think we can all see by now that the best videos on RU-vid also attract the worst idiots. I just ignore them because they are losers who hate to see others do good. Not worth our time.
And when you have a customer come complaining and giving your company a bad name, because of wrinkles don't wonder too hard as to why there's such a thing as a carpet stretcher.
Yeah but honestly not everyone can knee a knee kicker like that, my first time I thought I blew out my knee, now I can rip the carpet if I go to hard. And the way it was done the carpet will bubble as soon as the summer gets there. Just pay someone who knows the proper way to stretch it.
Well said Phillip. You go Edgar, I hope this drummed up some extra installs for. It’s about the homeowner saving where he can. Many homeowners are smart and can learn from this. RU-vid is great for that. When I got new helpers in my install biz I’d go to rental stores and help them buy their own 1st toolbox for them to get their own mojo on. If you’re good business is always good.
I liked using a restretcher for most rooms. Gets a little more pull to compensate for humidity and heat. Wear knee pads; after 36 years of it my knees are toast. Good video guys.
@Nicholas Payne me too--if i got lucky--and it still wouldnt be as good as his 10 minute job----on the other hand, nobody on earth can tear decks of cards, smash full cans of beer bare handed and rip license plates like i can., so we all have our specialties..........
So much BETTER way of making a video than a wobbly camera=crappy picture, while trying to talk and work at the same time. This dude knows how to make videos. Too bad the average youtuber doesn't.
Great help first time installing carpet in my bedrooms, wasn't that simple, but it came out very good, took me more than a few minutes actually almost all day, but worthy, once again thanks 😀
Last night I tried doing it with the same pace as that dude, shiiiiit! Like two hours later drenched in sweat I still have some trimming left to do today. Point.... Practice makes perfect, he's really good
Thank you gentlemen for this video. I have watched so many and this one was the best. Not overly explained, the idea of narrative instruction with visual made it easy to follow. Best video I have seen this will be the one I reference when I go to so my carpeting.
Thanks for posting this Edgar. The most helpful video I've found on this site. I did notice it's a little harder to find the cut point on a thicker carpet. Since so many tools are battery-powered, I'm waiting for an enterprising company to come up with a battery-powered knee kicker. 😀Thanks
I love this video. Kept it simple but correct, I admire the hard work, and I laughed my ass off while reading and watching. Post more vids like this! This stuff can make you more money than kicking carpet!
This dudes a badass. I was looking for a video for new guys like me. Great job. But it's like trying to learn a song on guitar by going to the concert.
I’ve been in the Flooring business 40+ years. Ive been to numerous courses and are certified in ALL TYPES of flooring. I don’t know everything but when it comes to Flooring, I know what I’m talking about. No offense bud ,but nothing your guy did was correct. Not your fault someone taught you guys the wrong way.The only thing you use a kicker for these days is to set your walls. He’s not stretching anything with that kicker.Guarantee you it’s wrinkled, and if it’s not it will be 💯Manufacture requires you to use a power stretcher, and you don’t beat your knees up or tear holes in your carpet it’s a little more work but it’s easier and its 1,000 times tighter..also before you cut anything down you stretch past your doorways CLOSETS ETC.if possible. NEVER NEVER EVER CUT YOUR CARPET OVER PAD LIKE THAT. Carpet knives are scalpel sharp and you’re running it down your brand new baseboard… Not in my new house.Thats what a wall trimmer is for with a plastic guard to keep from scratching your base
THANK YOU! This is just some straight up butchering. Who tucks in without even tapping the carpet on the pins first? Then kicking on a net wall whaaaaat? You could get away with this crap in new construction but in a customers house pfff I'd be embarrassed to call myself an installer if this is how I did every job. It's a dying art my friend. We even stretch the pad to this day.
I'm going to stop you right there bud. I appreciate this video for the common household do-it-yourselfer. You and I both know that when you make this look easy it just gives a homeowner and idea and their head that they could talk down there carpet installer because supposedly this job is easy. No it's not brain surgery but when you're doing one two three home today or when you're doing a 3000 square foot home it gets pretty hard and old fast. But you need to explain to people is when they don't tuck in the carpet correctly it allows air draft to blow through and that's why people have dark lines of dirt and dust 2in out from the carpet along the baseboard. Also I give it 6 months of people walking on it before it bubbles. You absolutely have to power stretch. Oh and also when leaving a room are you connecting it to a hallway carpet or you put in a z strip in. You may need seaming tape seaming iron. I've done about 4,000 homes throughout Washington it honestly is really rewarding job it also takes your you thought of you fast.
All you people that are being haters. DIY people will not get these results. This guy is a pro and he is stretching with his knee kicker. An amateur will not stretch with the knee kicker. You will seat it just fine, but after some time, the carpet will start to wrinkle.
"As you can see" dude sounds adorable. Thank you very much for making this video and for sharing it. Going to try this for my over stretched carpets to see if I can get rid of the folds that have formed in the middle after a few years. Thanks again!
As a installer myself I believe they made a power stretcher witch makes it easier to install an not worry about your carpet being loose, kickers now & days are used for small areas
You forgot your stretcher. Proper ways to install even a bedroom includes a stretcher. If you do not use a stretcher your carpet is going to get loose in the near future. Seeing waves in your carpet is exactly what I'm talking about. After an installer installed your carpet you can pull it up in the middle of the room with your fingers and if it doesn't pull up and it's nice and tight you will be able to tell. Hope this advice helps someone out there 👍
@@betohernandez1970 with the skirting over the tip? good luck with that the issues that you will have wont be instant they will be 6 months- a year after you "Install" it
It's midnight now and I'm finally to the point where I'm ready to install the carpet into a bedroom did I spent the day painting. Haven't never really observed a carpet stretcher being used so I stopped in to get some tips when I found this champion of installers making walking the park out of the job that's going to take me all night. I sure wish you were my neighbor right now. I'll be watching
I noticed at 2:46 his knife which we often call( the Bloody Mary knife) fell out of his back pocket. This happens frequently to carpet installers. My dad was doing carpet on stairs had his knife in his back pocket it fell out and cut his lower leg down by his ankle and needed 30 stitches. That didn't stop him from finishing the job. He always did the stairs last so we only had about 30 minutes left of working. I ran out and got a bunch of napkins out of the truck and also an Ace bandage. He wrapped his leg up finished the job and went to his doctor who stitched him up. Those knives are very sharp and have four sides to them so you can switch it 4 times before the blade is dull
I was looking for a vid on how to lay carpet over carpet cuz im 8 1/2 months pregnant..im definitely not doin all this shit! Lol just gonna cut and tape call it a day. But i can see myself goin into to labor laughin at this if i watch it one more time👌👏👏👏👏😂😂😂😂😂great job sir! 😁Made my day😂😂
By a professional flooring installer you do not use a kicker to stretch carpet, you use a stretcher, lol.Ive been installing since 1871, I'm a master installer and never kick a carpet in, never. Although I do appreciate it when my customer calls me and I make really great money fixing their problems, can usually get 3-4" more on a power stretcher, thanks for this, gives me more $$$$.
I wouldn't follow these guys exactly, you shouldn't kick in an entire room. Invest in a power stretcher or you'll have wrinkled carpet in a couple months
This guy is amazing, has done 17 of my homes, and i've never seen a bubble or grey dust develop on the edges. Amazing work, I see people on here complaining about how he doesn't do things right, alls I got to say is " WHY The hell you here watching these vids? you must need work. lmao OH BOY !! mad people I tell ya!
I miss doing carpet and vinyl, its not hard but it's not easy, I loved it, my Uncle was the best in the business. This guy is damn good, 2nd nature to him
After removing carpet and and reinstalling the same one myself I have much respect and admiration for these highly skilled and unappreciated masters. That knee kick though is the reason why UFC decided to ban it.
@@kevinbushracing58 Actually it voids the carpets warranty if it is not power stretched it. It rips the backing of the carpet allowing it fray and it also does not prevent rinkling.
that rug in three months will be guaranteed to have wrinkles I've been making rugs for 35 years and this is the first time I've seen a rug installation tutorial with Kicker
Jeff... in 20 years I’ve never had a call back. If you stretch really hard the first two pulls in a room, like almost over stretch it will help you out a bunch. Here in Idaho we only give a one year warranty anyway. Cheep carpet is going to fail eventually regardless depending on the traffic and abuse.
Besides all the immature jokes this is a great video . Besides him cutting with a knife I would recommend and carpet trimmer . He is a professional And has a great method Set one wall and stretch away from it . Always stretch away from closets when possible .
I installed as for a living and I can say the manner used to install this room was lacking a lot . Using a kicker to stretch your carpet but not using your hand to insure the carpet hooks to the tack strip is useless .
