I think this is what she wanted to do at the time, based on interviews I've watched. Like many artists, she simply evolved (into a very different style and mode of expression, in her case!). If you watch the 'Too Hot' documentary from around this time, she was talking about how even then she didn't like to look back at clips from You Can't Do That on Television. Many performers seem to move on pretty quickly and not want to be associated with their past.
Whoa! I actually never knew Alanis put out anything before 'Jagged Little Pill', this certainly is different to her more familiar pop-rock/post-grunge sound!

This is also what SHE wanted to do at that time, and btw she wanted to include some songs from that era in one of her new compilations, but was talked out wrom it by the people who wanted her to do what "SHE" wanted :D
