World-renowned physicist Dr Michio Kaku, with the help of Think Inc., visited Australia in June 2014, captivating the public with his superhuman ability to comprehensively communicate complex scientific concepts and advancements (both current and future) to audiences across all degrees of interest in science, from professional to personal to casual. He was joined by Derek Muller (aka Veristasium) who hosted the show.
These are some of the highlights of his Melbourne talk, filmed at MCEC on June 6th, 2014.
Dr Michio Kaku is the co-founder of string theory (which proposes to revolutionise the way we understand the physical world). He is also the author of critically acclaimed books such as Parallel Worlds (2004), Physics of the Impossible (2008), and most recently the bestselling The Future of the Mind (2014).
ABOUT THINK INC.
Think Inc. is a community of individuals on a mission to expose the true face of modern society. Armed with ideas, we defy the stale conventions of learning by shifting the world’s attention to global ideas, while opening minds.
We’re not on the fringe. We are trendsetters with the power to shift perceptions and reshape the face of the mainstream.
In 2014, Think Inc. launched with the mandate of creating a community where ideas can be shared, challenged, voiced and became a champion of democratising ideas. On this foundation, Think Inc. has grown into a powerful collective.

That kid is proof that we should be exposing and encouraging complex, interesting scientific theories to young children. We are all capable of greatness. We just need curiosity, passion, concentration, and time to develop. The earlier you start the journey the better! “When kids look up to great scientists the way they do to great musicians and actors, civilization will jump to the next level” ― Brian Greene

Sometimes the questions weren't evoking answers as interesting or cogent as what he offered. The interviewer couldn't know enough about what to ask, so he threw out half-baked questions that Prof. Kahu spontaneously modified into more interesting answers. The interviewer 's questions weren't rehearsed; they came off the top of his head, expecting that Prof. Kaku would handle them adroitly.

This is why I see interviews of successful people like Michuo. I was always pessimistic about myself and now it have become my second natural to feel negative about everything going around me. But 😱 OMG look at the benefit of watching a interview instead of a newly released sond trending on RU-vid. That i have gained so much confidence in myself now that also in less than 4 mins of the video started playing. Michuo explained why u have a reason to be proud of. You have a brain of a Homo Sepien, the damn Brain of a Human being. If u want to know how much powerful a Human Brain is he told. It will take a whole Block of CITY size computer. With a river in it to cool it down. And something that big u are carrying just above your shoulders with a expenditure of only 20 milliwatt. This was a moment in my life where i needed to open my eyes and put the things in the correct other now. Thank you vitiliser science RU-vid channel for sharing this video with me. @BattousaiHBr
@BattousaiHBr 5 лет назад
what he said is both true and false, or at least regarding india. yes, the populace gives credit to science, which is why india produces a lot of professionals in STEM fields. however, the government apparently doesn't care about science as much. if it did, it would try to keep their native professionals there instead of letting them slip away to other nations that offer better careers and salaries. this is not the case for china, as it not only produces a lot of STEM professionals but it also manages to keep most of them there by offering compelling careers.

he's talking about questions he was asked, not random stuff from his mind. anyway, 90% of his talks are easily forgotten, because ppl have tendencies to overlook particularly important info. e. g. one of his last answers in this interview was "Throw politicians out" was one of the most important sentences in human history. and it should be considered as the first commandment of human progress. but I guess you already forgot it. ;)

Sorry for replying to 7 months late post I'm feeling you, but It's not his fault science is so slow he has no new fun stories to talk about. Imagine how he feels having to tell same stories to Kaku-virgin listeners. P.S. what scares me most is how he turns "type 1 civilization" talks into something fascist, by saying that english is type 1 language and rock-n-roll a type 1 music. I don't know why he chose to do this "democracy" propaganda, but I guess he wants to stay popular.

Neil is more fun, simpler and, thus, closer to people. Kaku is very conservative in his behavior (read old). Still, I'm sure that if we had a chance to talk about real science happening on backstage we would be overwhelmed again. But it's not for everybody, because it's kept secret.

I am about 7 minutes into this interview & so far Dr. Kaku is describing a technological society where huge amounts of information is readily available to the masses with the least required amount of effort to utilize that information. -Essentialy speaking, lots of info; with little effort to access & use that info for one's advantage. I think Dr. Kaku is forgetting 1 crucial thing: The technologies, the markets, & the industries will probably be regulated by governments around the world. It won't be free for everyone. It won't be affordable to everyone. & may not even be available to everyone, even if they could afford it! The important thing to remember is this: It doesn't matter how awesome, or how fast technologies become. Because you will ALWAYS have the desire by powerful entities & powerful people to distinguish theirselves as "The Haves" from the rest of Humanity, as "The Have Nots". Their will always be regulations by governments on our lives & our ability to wield the power of knowlege & our ability to access it. That will never change because its Human nature for one to thrive to be above their neighbor, rather than to be satisfied with everyone being homogenous & set as equals. So my question to Dr. Kaku is this: "Dr. Kaku, what good is it to have a civilization that is smart enough to materialize technologies of such remarkable potential, when the fundamental nature of the Human race is to keep a stark contrast between 'The Haves' & 'The Have Nots'?" What you are excitedly describing, Dr. Kaku, will not be available to all of us. Nikola Tesla tried to give free energy to everyone, but a business man stopped him dead in his tracks! There will always be a Nikola Tesla imagining & inventing. & their will always be a John Pierpont Morgan to limit him (the Inventor) & every regular Joe & Jane.

Does fish know that it rotates along side the sea/river because of Earth? No, but does she rotates, yes. She can't be aware of it.

Manav Shah I said it wrong way, ofcourse universe expands in 3 dimensions as well, because of the dark energy in universe, go search in youtube... THere is no dark energy inbetween Sun and Earth, maybe just little bit, as far as i know and who says the distance between Sun and Earth does not expand??? Conscious human being lives only for about a few thausands of years, that's nothing compared to universe, maybe still we are not aware of that fact that it expands or they actually explained it already and you and m didn't find that information. Whatever the case is, i am sure they have explanation for it.

as far as I know the universe is expanding only on larger scales because on smaller scales gravity is just much stronger than the expansion
@RajSingh-qc6lq
@RajSingh-qc6lq 8 лет назад
I have no factual grounds to say this other than my basic understanding of the expansion of the universe (key word being basic), but I believe it also has something to with the negligible distance between the Earth and the Sun considering the size of the universe. The space between them is so infinitesimally small that the rate of expansion would easily be overcome by the power of gravity which in turn would keep our system more or less the same in terms of orbits and distances. It's like how (if you've seen other talks) often scientists say that the galaxy's will grow farther apart because of the lack of anything keeping them together in Empty Space (between the galaxy's). Remember the balloon metaphor is a good example but it doesn't take into account gravity. The more dots grouped together the less likely they'll split apart. If they are independent of one another than yes it would be like the balloon. Don't think of the Earth and Sun as two different dots on the balloon, think of each dot as a "system". Our system is encompassed by a much larger system, our galaxy's. The whole galaxy including us is just one dot, that dot won't split up unless it crashes into it and rips it apart. TL;DR: Gravity>Expansion since we're too close for expansion to increase the distance fast enough to overcome the gravity keeping us together.

Heroin addiction many times starts from being prescribed painkillers from doctors, then finding that it is not curing their pain enough, they simply get addicted, or they get cut off and seek something to fill the gaps. Oh yeah, and heroin addicts are much better than any sober person at social interaction when they are high, but much much much worse when they aren't.

As a "former" heroin addict, I can say that this is.. somewhat correct, but not completely. (I put quotes around "former", because they say, "Once an addict, always an addict", but I disagree with that, myself.) I am quite a bit of a social outcast, personally. At least, now I am, almost completely. But, when I started taking opioids at 13 (pills, first, such as oxycodone and other derivatives), I was socially active. Even then, however, I was still a bit of an outcast; I was always the shy, awkward kid. After you start taking opiates/opioids, you go through withdrawals without them, which feels horrible. So you keep taking them, simply so you don't feel as if you have a horrible, horrible flu. In my case, becoming an addict is what made me (even more of) a social outcast. My friends abandoned me (except for one, to whom I am very grateful), basically. Even the one who basically got me on the pills to begin with, which was.. shitty. Which is understandable, but then again, it makes the problem worse. And I suppose that adds to the craving for drugs, in a way. It becomes the cure-all for everything, really. Emotions, pain. Et cetera. It's a vicious circle, really. Fortunately, I'm about 2 years clean, now, and I'm doing well. :) Also, "A b r o a d", your comment is quite accurate.

he's referring to @7:34 which is pretty much just a really dumb comment by Michio (he's known to have a few). he was saying that no 2 major democracies have ever fought each other implying that democracies are superior because they don't fight each other, which they have several times. it's like saying communism is superior because 2 major communist powers have never fought each other. it's just really meaningless and totally destroys his entire point.

Interesting points here, but not completely 'On The Point' and some are personal views that may have issues with incorrect knowledge, perspective or perception. USA Civil War [and perhaps Revolutionary War, War of 1812] do not seem to fit the principle stated. The principle is correct, but needs some modification too. The Falkland Island issue was more or less a fight of those who wanted to maintain control of others with those who wanted release. In Vietnam, the War[s] there also, though the leader Ho Chi Min chose to follow a Communist thinking, which is also a controlling type government in practice as in Russia, her satellite countries, China, North Korea and other [Venezuela under Chavez, Cuba under Fidel Castro and son]]. Most of these are in the 20 th -21 st century, where the Republic; United States of America, which was initiated with the most Democratic principles into it, has as gradually become infiltrated with more and more Socialist and Communist principles, aspects and government controls including its views, perspectives, perceptions, actions toward other countries. [Their 'elite' attitude toward others comes from those they came from in England which is similar to the Germans, French and other Europeans [where each kingship were interrelated and intertwined with each other. They all followed from the views, perspectives, perceptions of The Romans (who took from the Greeks) including the later Religion of Chrixstianity. Inside their New Testament, exists this elitist attitude, view, perspective, perception, idea and concept. Thus they are simply extending this toward the other countries and people of this world; Earth. They seem to think and act as "The Savior of The World" and join with others in this pursuit, hence it may seem a Democracy is only one the USA accepts. However, my challenge to anyone and everyone is to find, locate, and point out any country that is a Democracy the USA does not accept, one that is more Democratic or even as much [as the current or past] (though it is actually a Republic, not like the Communist governments that use and misused this word and its concept; USSR, PRC, GDR, [N.] Korean Rep., etc.) Oh, and the Civil War was actually about control [not slavery] of the government; Federal Government control over the States (who won?! and who has gained more and more control?!).
@newtonfirefly3584
@newtonfirefly3584 5 лет назад
Rhys Williamson, True the USA was not yet one of the most powerful countries in the World yet, though in 1865 was certainly more significant than 1812 or 1830 or 1840. Which other countries were then having a Democracy yet? Though, if You are correct, only when that Democracy is powerful enough. Now then, We get into application today then, and will see Who are powerful "Democracies"? Australia??! France??! Canada??!! Belgium??!! The Netherlands??!! Luxembourg??!! Italy??!! Switzerland??!! Austria??!! Spain??!! Portugal??!! Poland??!! Sweden??!! Norway??!! Scandinavia??!! Northern Ireland??!! Any countries of the Eastern Europe??!! [except Russia] South Africa??!! New Zealand??!! Taiwan/Taipei??!! any in S.E. Asia??!! India??! Pakistan??!! and what is the demarcation of a major democracy that Michio Kaku is stating? The principle is more about the elements for development and as they relate to wars. He may also only be talking about major wars that are significant in the world.

Kaku thrashes politicians but look at how he answers the question at 7:00. He purposely evades answering the question by showing dubious facts such as "The Internet is not addictive". "Internet spreads democracy". That's both fallacies that I don't agree. People can be extremely dependent on the internet for their lifes, we can see that specially with generation Z and Millenials. Also Internet may concentrate ideologies of segregationist character, such as white supremacy or identity politics. You could also argue that Dictators are rulers that fortify their power endlessly, even in a democracy, so Xi Jinping and Putin would be classified into that.
@newtonfirefly3584
@newtonfirefly3584 5 лет назад
Draxis32, Perhaps You can adjust Your view, perspective and perception a bit more. The Internet is a communication channel and means of communication. The Internet is benign, does not have a view, perspective, perception, agenda etc. Rather it allows many to connect, receive, transmit, convey communication, information, knowledge, ideas, concepts, views, perspectives, perceptions, comprehension, understanding, etc. Agreed, since it is basically an open channel [except where local governments limit it], any and all types of information can and are communicated through it. The results are vast for all to convey true, false, accurate, distorted, correct, incorrect, semi-correct, dogma, ideologies, and similar. Each can make choices to verify, discern, etc. So, yes Each should BE AWARE & BE WARE[RY]!

Bah. I've heard all of Kaku's speeches, he's never got anything new to say. These guys are mega idols, and are blind to what is really going on in the world. All of the current models, GR, QM, and all the nonsense build upon them are fallacies, and the movement of the future is towards electrical sciences, dielectric, plasma physics (excluding those who use the inaccurate old MHD equations), and most importantly the rotating magnetic field - as these explain all natural phenomena without exception. All of the post-GR and post-QM sciences are flawed because the studies are based on assumptions and inventive insanity (fairy dust particles like virtual photons, multi dimensions, gravitational waves, and so on), and the models continue to fail. Yes that includes the big bang. People studying the electrical side of things always have something new to say, and everything is always based in hard empirical fact void of all gap-filling and assumptions. That and they're not a self-perpetuating multi-billion dollar institution with dogmatic paradigms obsessed with patchwork and preserving self-dignity. Wheeler's work on rotating magnetic field model finishes the work of Faraday, Maxwell, Tesla, and fully explains polarization and the creation of not only the fundamental forces, but fields, matter, and interactions. 1/Phi^-3 is a far better unified field equation. All these guys talk about is mathematical this and simulation that, and reify it into what they claim to be reality. This is insane because there's no empirical evidence for any of this nonsense.

PS: MRi's require to be adjusted for the Larmor frequency, which is the gyro-magnetic processional angle of magneto-dielectricity that follows golden ratio geometry. This necessitates the rotating magnetic field presented by Tesla and followed up by others. The model of gyro-magnetic procession not only explains magnetism in it's entirety, but also unifies all known physical behaviour in the universe without the need for black holes or imaginary particles.

@GenesisAria

Fahad Hossain Not Electrical Universe here. Unified Field theory. The theory that Kaku tries to construct but fails due tot he lack of understanding of fundamental forces like magnetism. The thunderbolts page just summarizes all of the main issues with mainstream cosmology: it's based on heaps of assumptions and made-up particles, instead of working with known proven systems and raw experimentation. Hate to break it to you, but if an experiment says one thing and your math says another, the empirical wins without debate, because it's reality, you math is not. You're the ignorant one here my friend, for not fully understanding the theories you subscribe to, and for not understanding oppositions either. People like these pretend to be intelligent, yet they can't fathom concepts like incommensurabillity. People like these, and especially Hawking, are there to collect paychecks, not be wise. If Michio Kaku were to define to me in extensive detail what incommensurability is and how it relates to magnetism, then i'd be glad to concede my point. These guys still go around admitting they don't know anything about magnetism, yet they claim to know physics. It's unfortunate, i wish i could actually have a conversation with these guys, but there's always that fame/money barrier. Because i have the feeling that people like Mishio Kaku and Neil DeGrasse Tyson would actually be capable of entertaining sciences they were not so aware of.
