Like you said, this music, this feeling CANNOT be imitated. Bruno not only embodies soul music, you can tell he has studied it, paid close attention to it, and fully embraced it. I'm so happy he and Anderson hooked up for this. It's like two reincarnated old 'Gs' came together in this life to gift us with what are sure to be classics. God blessed them both! ❤️🤗😊

Bruno and Paak both grew up on soul music! But the music industry tried to put them in any box, but soul. But you see what happened, when they got Artist Creative Choice, they blew it out the stratosphere. Hall and Oates is another example where the industry didn't want them to play soul. They came back and told them "I can't go for that" no can do (lol)!!! Now they are a staple for "Blue Eyed Soul" and been invited to any cookout or parties since the 70's! So you see, soul isn't a color it is a feeling that comes from within!!

I'm so lucky I wasn't heartbroken when this album came out, or Put On a Smile woulda had me crying like a baby. That major key chorus is absolutely genius, especially when it all drops back out to minor at the end.

70's Boomers got their grind on again with this album. Millennials love it while bobbing their heads. lol Bootsy explained the 70's to these guys, and boy, did they listen and take it on. It's the best complete album in the last 10-15 years, at least.

Same with Grenade. I feel like he was wrestling with getting a hit so he could keep his foot stuck in the door until he could do what he really wanted. The label was trying to keep him as a songwriting in the studio.

I remember TT&G on Highland very well! I was in the studio with the first Blues Image band ( I did lead sheets for the band). After our session was over, we went down stairs and Jimi Hendrix was walking out of studio #1 with Mitch Mitchell! We were just chillin’ and I was able to talk with Jimi for about 45 minutes before one of my Mosaic Tweed bandmates took Jimi to the Whisky! Our band-Mosaic Tweed- were on the rise in 1969. We played all the major clubs on Sunset including the Whiskey twice! We opened the West Coast Arthur; we played in Baldwin Hills for Dionne Warwick’s birthday party-and she brought her cousin, Leslie Uggams (God! She was gorgeous!) with her! Our group recorded a single at Capitol (I was the only guy who actually played an instrument on the date!) The drummer was Jim Gordon. The single was released with a bullet, but Capitol felt they had too much new talent and fired 75 producers in one day! Our producer was Vic Briggs, lead guitarist with the Animals who had just broken up, was one of them! Sad story... we came as close to making it as one can without it happening. I know part of the decision was due to us being a mixed band: three black guys ( including lead guitarist Pete Smith formerly with Gladys Knight) And two white guys, me (co-founder Of the Tweed, and the drummer-a former Mouseketeer, Not Cubby. The record is still available to hear on RU-vid and I’ve seen it for sale on EBAY! If you check it out, I’m audible on the opening on piano “Comin’ Home”

This was from GOOGLE : BRUNO MARS said he was influenced by artists such as Keith Sweat, Jodeci, and R. Kelly. As a child, he also took notice of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, New Edition, Bobby Brown, Boyz II Men, Teddy Riley, and Babyface. At the same time, he also listened to 1950s rock 'n' roll, doo-wop music, and Motown. And I know ... American blacks are the MOST imitated and studied culture swag on EARTH. But HATE because of color is killing us.

Bruh, not sure where you got that video for Fly,. There is one of them performing it on Soul Train awards with the room decorated like Soul Train set. )singer you asked about, Rose Royce? not Rolls). Anderson’s last name is ‘Paak’ with 2 a’s, not Park. Not sure if that was a slip of tongue or misread. ‘Filets’, it’s so fun like, ‘I gots what you need girl, jus come on, I got you!’ 🤩. You uttered one o my favorite phrases, ‘holy snap’. I say snaps though. 🤪 Fun reaction!
