@@CapDayne_Leviit also pairs with some really interesting pieces of gear that lets you have WAY more versatility as an aggressive caster. The new parry dagger gets a fun powerstance with it, and I can imagine someone’s gonna do a hybrid Caster-Shield Poke with it at some point.
Probably the best use I've seen for the Carian sword, makes for a pretty mean combo setup. Everything seems to work really well together here. Carian r1 seems to roll catch into GKat L1, and GK L1 (mostly) true combos back into TS r1. And to top it off carian piercer seems to easily roll catch off TS r1, and if you know you're opponent is ready for the piercer, you can mix up with an r1 follow-up attack they likely won't be ready for and/or be able to react roll. Been finding it tough to justify or find uses for the Carian sorcery sword, as it lacks a proper r2 and overrides your AoW when offhand, but this seems like one of the better crazy setups you can do with it for sure.
Think the overriding the AoW while left handed is usually pretty good. Plenty of good utility sorcery spells, not a lot of good ashes for lighter weapons since you aren't abusing heavy weapon super armor/ poise damage. Miriam's Vanishing is basically quickstep in the very least and you get the phalanx spells for poise damage burst
@@lindezzzzz949 Perfectly explained brother thank you this set up has amazing synergy and mix up power! I knew from just labbing it for a little that the combo potential was wild. Miriam’s vanishing has also become one of my favorite defensive tools
Im so happy they fixed the Sorcery Swords scaling so quickly. Still dunno why they tied casting to the R2 and then left the Weapon Art as just Impaling Thrust, but whatever lol. Offhand Great Katana seems to be a real menace, I definitely wanna mess around with Rakshasa's as an offhand to see how effective it is with its whole weird thing of having hyper armor on its one handed attacks like colossals do.
@@Jblank1016 I’m really glad they did also it feels a lot stronger! The Offhand GK is what really helps this build shine there’s a lot of other weapons that can combo from it as well
@@CapDayne_Levi Seems like offhand GK L1 combos into Tooth Whip R1 > Painful Strike. Tempted to try it with offhand Rakshasa, since they both want Dex and I think Rak gets 1H hyperarmor.
@@VonSchnitz You the man Von likewise with your optimal builds! 🤝 I never get tired of that new feeling of discovery! Labbing set ups and testing builds is one of the best things about this game
@@Rilas711 Thanks for watching Rilas! It’s everything we’ve been wanting in a spell blade and more Btw you should check out my recent vid if you enjoy INT/FTH combos! 😁
Something has always felt weird about the great katana, like it has unintended combo potential-- I swear I've had the weapon hit 4 times during some ashes like stormcaller.
@@hobosorcerer It’s like From knew it was going to be a fan favorite weapon so they made them extremely good but didn’t intend for them to be THAT good!
That's a little redundant... storm caller like all interchangeable ashes does the exact same thing to the same degree on hit with every weapon it's applied to... storm caller hits 3 times true combo, the 4th hit times as a buffered roll catch similar to 2nd hit of black flame tornado, the only reason you feel like GK does better is that you only probably ever used stormcall on greatswords or axes, and never once thought "hmm I wonder if I use a long hafted weapon like a spear, halberd or scythe if I'll hit from further away" this is why GK works good with ashes... it has range akin to spears and halberds. Which is why black knight glaive is still the best single use weapon in the game... and you can dead angle stormcaller from right oblique to get 4 hits of status activation and guarantee frost n stuff like that but it's the fact you're range reaches further than your traditional used weapon that you feel it better. When in reality 2 equally upgraded and infused GK and KGS do the same dmg for the same combo potential with the same ash of wars... it's the weapons model that makes the difference in shit like "will my roll catch hit or will this ash of war reach"
Nice combo, but I'll be damned I get too frustrated at getting interrupted on long sorcery combos for invasions - gavel might be a better tank through in that situation. Statistically the CSS plateaus at 50int - so I may give this a try on a mid level, paired thrusting sword with cleanrot/parry in the offhand.
@@Nunkuruji Thanks bro very true! There were a handful of times piercer got interrupted where gavel would’ve came in clutch. Sounds very fun and clever, a lot of people tend to forget parry can be thrown on TS
@@CapDayne_Levi I believe you have combined with two combat style and made a new genre which is comprehensive in melee(one shot combo) & magic (flexibility) !
Aaaaand that’s why I’ve picked up Great Katana on every character that’s reached the shadowlands. That two hand moveset just feels right… and then you find out about the offhand…
@@Khaliljt Thanks man yeah it’s probably my favorite offhand weapon I’m glad you enjoyed! If you’re interested you should also check out my recent combo video 🤙
Miriam's Vanishing towards someone is a funny choice if you don't chain cast it with a spell. Highly punishable if your opponent knows what they're doing. That aside, very nice build. Looks like a lot of fun.
Heyo levi! Love your content, this pseudo looks really cool! Just wanted to say that using stardust talisman is akin to using double soreseal. I would recommend actually just using double soreseal if you are going to try to use stardust, honestly. Here's the build I would recommend that achieves what yours can without the damage negation tank (also not sure why you have 35 endurance, is it for the stam? heavier armor is definitely possible with your stat distribution unless you had zwei with waves of darkness on swap) LV150 Astrologer, base stats look like this: 55 VIG 19 MIN 25 END 9 STR 35 DEX 65 INT 7/9 FTH/ARC (ignore this) Talismans: Radagon's Soreseal, Radagon's Icon, Viridian Amber +3, and Graven-Mass talisman Weapons: Carian sorcery sword, 2nd slot dryleaf arts with bloodhounds step, offhand cold chilling mist great katana The 25 END is actually unnecessary, but I kept the stats in line with the original build as much as possible- if you wanted to, you could cut END as far as 16 (21 w/soreseal) to med roll and pump int the rest of the way. Thanks for the video making use of the carian sorcery sword, will try this one out! er-inventory.nyasu.business/?b=3ebceecd2647c9
@@lizard_bois5559 Yoo lizard thanks man very helpful input! I’ve always been torn between using the stardust tali because of those exact reasons I appreciate your version of the build its likely the best alternative! Looking forward to testing it out 🤙
@@CapDayne_Levi I'd like to try it, but optimisation and tickrate are still fucked up on PC after two years after release, unfortunately. So I just check out for some uncommon ER pvp things on youtube. It's nice to see ur's non-meta builds, that is often impressive ;)
Ur missing the good point of Miriams, you can chain cast it into other spells quite well. Miriams -> Gavel, or Zamors, or Abdula are all good combos. Also I'd say CSS works best as an off stok if you want to try that out out
Wow I'm impressed but I think I would def tweak it a bit by adding waves of darkness especially for the 2v1's and maybe use a variation of halberd and have it in the offhand other than that piercer still rollcatches like crazy
That's a great combo, damn! I wonder, if MH UGS R1 will combo into offhand CSS the same way? Or are rec frames for UGS just too long to ensure it being a true combo? Had a lot of success with MH Ugs/Offhand CSS R1-L1-L2 (Piercer), but would be nice to know the actual frame data here.
@@almightykars9350 Offhand Great Hammers can combo from an UGS poke (a lot of attacks can) so CSS definitely would also! Sorry don’t have the actual frame data though
This makes me want to actually try invading but I know I'll be nowhere near as good... I'll probably get some really really really really really bad matchups..
@@jacoba3953 If your build is stat restricted and REALLY needs max cast then it comes in handy but honestly having 40 dex and radagons icon without the -30% has always been my preferred max Vdex route. It all comes down to preference and play style though!
Does anyone know if this only works if the great katana is in the offhand? Or can it translate to swapping the hands of the weapon and keep the combo unchanged
@@ALUCARDTWILLIGHT I’m a sucker for having a larger weapon on the left and quicker one mainhand! It’s just always been my preference. Inputting R1 into R2 just felt better imo
@@CapDayne_Levi Does the order actually matter? As in does it actually change the moveset/affect the hit stuns or anything like that? Or would I be able to achieve the same with GK on the right and Carian Sorcery Sword on the left?
@@CapDayne_Levi yeah what cap said, my reason for using GK main hand is I like the moveset so need my R1 and R2, impaling thrust is not really appealing to me
@@tirionpendragon Despite its glaring downside I enjoy using it because it’s simply new gear and can be useful for optimizing damage without building around max cast. A lot of people recommend using other helpful Vdex talis like radagons icon so it’s all up to preference!
Same as wearing double soreseal, 30% decrease to absorption, numerically no where near worth the defense drop, hopefully a patch will buff in the future
@@Revivalheb Pretty much any other weapon that has similar or high INT scaling! On infusable weapons I’d go for Cold affinity. Halberd, UGS, and GS/CGS are all pretty good pairings

@@YTLifeBeats It feels true against lower poise players! There were a couple instances in the vid where they managed to roll so I’m not sure if it was latency or if they had enough poise but that’s where carian piercer comes in
@@CapDayne_Levi came to comments looking for someone to point it out, but with 1.12 you only need i think 84 poise to tank a rapier r1, so i assume gk r1 into rapier r1 is only true if they have less than 84 poise, otherwise they get stunned by gk and then poise through the rapier. i think they should still get hit by the rapier but it still messes with the piercer timing
