Out of all the videos about needle tatting, this is the best one I have found. Thank you for your clear instructions and patience. I learned this skill from you.
The only tutorial that made any sense to me. You are the only one that I could see that tells us to bring our yarn all the way around in a loop at the beginning. Nobody else tells you this and I got really confused why I could not get my stitches off the needle to make a flower ~now I know.
my grandma would teach me to crochet as a kid while she would sit tatting. I always wanted her to teach me, but with age and health it wouldn't be possible now. I would love to make something even small to show her. we both feel it is important to pass on the skills of crochet, knitting, tatting, and anything with yarn, string, and thread. it's becoming a lost trade. so I would also like to say you are truly a great woman, and I hope you put as many of these videos as possible on here. passing on the skills in a way our youth will see them. 😆
My mom would have a sewing circle during the summer when school was out. I learned how to embroider at a very young age. My mom didnt know how to crochet or knit or tattering. I learned to basic knit from a friend around 10. Then crochet during the beer can craze when I turned17. I do mostly crochet now. I tried to teach myself tatting but gave up. This sounds more easier. I just might have to give it a try.
I have been a fiber artist most of my life. I am 70 yrs old and could never accomplish tatting with a shuttle. Thank you for this video!!! I can now say I am learning needle tatting!! So excited to be doing this, finally.
I’ve been knitting & crocheting since I was 7yrs old. Recently, I’ve taken up Organ lessons, (I’m 57yrs old now)!!! I’ve always found tatting to be a beautiful work of art...but, never ventured there!!! Now, I’m going there!!! lol I’m gonna give it a try!!!
I found some beautiful pieces in a ziplock bag when my husband and I moved into our home back in 2016. They weren't kept by the previous owners as family heirlooms! But no one has been able to tell me anything about the skill which went into them- until now! I've had to sleuth the stitches and techniques to find a kind soul who suggested they were a combination of embroidery and tatting! I want to learn this skill! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skill 😍
Never seen tatting done, I knit, crochet, and have basic sewing skills. Watching you fold the thread over your needle to thread it, is a trick my mother showed me years ago. I really enjoyed you sharing your craft! Thank you!
A friend of mine years ago tatted doilies… I loved them she used a shuttle. I’ve always wanted to learn. I believe everyone learns differently and some teachers work for some but not all. I spent yesterday frustrated and literally wadding up thread and cussing. Your video had me making rings in no time. Thank you! The only thing I did wrong was not holding the thread from needle eye so basically there was only one tail… and the thread didn’t pull through. …. Rewatched and got it!
Wow!! Thank you!! My mom had showed me with a shuttle many, many years ago. I don't even remember what she showed. I will try this with the needle...and view this many times! Thanks !!
AT LAST! IT MAKES SENSE!! Thank you SO VERY MUCH for this video, it's so lovely and ckear. I'm a lifelong fibre crafter, but trying to do tatting has always eluded me. Many thanks from across the pond in the UK
Well, you saved me a 10 hour one way trip to Chattanooga TN with this video. I tried years ago to tat using shuttle, but never caught on, friend of mine does needle tatting but is in TN while I am in NW MO. I got my things in a kit from Handy Hands...and have sat last 4 nights trying to figure out why I couldn't get mine to go right. Friend tried to help, sent photos by phone message...but to no avail. Within seconds of you beginning, nailed the problem. I was not going to end of the cut off thread to begin, instead I was just using the thread as it stretched up by the needle...so had nothing to slide onto. Thanks to you, I will try again tonight. I also called friend second I saw what I had been doing wrong to tell her thanks to you, I had figured it out.
Thank you do much for showing us all so patiently. I had a dear old friend Mary Morris who did the most beautiful tatting and I never found time for her to teach me...such a waste of her talent
I used to do tons of this before the pandemics, but then the whole thing came and I forgot how to do it. Thanks for bringing the light back to this area of my brain. It's so good to be able to produce beauty with your own hands. ❤
I never heard of needle tatting till just now, I can just about use the tatting shuttle, but it does hurt my left hand so after making a few bits and pieces I reluctantly stopped making tatted lace. This looks much simpler and you have made it so easy to understand. I have some needles which look similar to the one you are using, I got them last year to use for weaving, and I have piles of crochet cotton so I am now good to go. Thank you so much for this video, you are a genius.
So grateful for your time and consideration in this very important skill. I've never heard of it and now I want to know more! Looking forward to seeing you again on another video ❣️
Wow! I am so happy to have found you. I found a shuttle in the drawer of my mom's Singer Treadle but she never used it so I don't know who did - or whose treadle is was before it was my mom's. But, since finding that shuttle I have wanted to learn how to tat. Alas, there was no one to teach me. So, now I'm into my 81st year - and here you are and here I am. LOL Will I now purchase a tatting needle? Might. Thank you for making a video that is clear and easy to understand.
I've always wanted to learn tatting. This looks easier than any of the shuttle videos I have seen. Definitely going to try this! Thank you so much for sharing!
Trying to tat with a shuttle nearly killed me, although I am a good knitter and can also crochet! So I opened this video full of dread. I think its a lifesaver if you really want to do some tatting. Thank you so much!
Thanks for a great video. I bought a tatting needle and some thread today. I've spent the entire evening making double stitches and picots. It was very relaxing. And it's fun!
Well, I made a really delicate hangman's noose. Think I might frame it if my hands can manage it. -_- UPDATE: I SOMEHOW MADE HALF OF A FLOWER. UPDATE 2: I don't know what I made, but I think I killed it. Maybe I should stick to embroidery...
This looks very clear and doable. I love this kind of kace and will for sure dry and find me such a needle. I read somewhere the thinner threads need a bigger needle and the other way around. Did I hear hou properly that the thin thread needs a thin needle and the thicker threads a thicker needle? Thank you very much for sharing this. 🤩😍
Took a few tries but it works!!! I'm excited, have wanted to try this for a while but tatting needles are not as plentiful ad shuttles which I could never figure out. Thank you for such clear instructions and sharing your mind and talents.
double stitch looks like a single crochet in regular crotcheting . Nice do you prefer using needle or shuttle or is there i time when you like to uses one over the other
For the first time, I fully understand. Thank you Ms Kaye. I will be visiting this site ofter as well as telling my Quilt buddies who are interested in needle tatting. You are truly a God send..
I've been struggling to learn tatting for years and came across this yesterday. Thank you for making it perfectly clear and I ended up last night with a complete flower.
Thank you, Kaye! I really appreciate your tutorial. I was hoping to find out if the needle was easier for me, being left-handed and sure enough, it is. Crochet and knitting are already a challenge to me, so I'm glad that I found this tutorial and messed around with a few chains! Thank you! I mean it! It's made it easier for me, being left handed.
You are a great instructor! Keep on doing what you are doing. It's so important for people to learn these skills as well as knitting, crochet, and of course the tatting.. My great aunt made huge tablecloths crocheting but it kinda reminds me of tatting. i agree about passing on this art of needle work! Thanks for the video!
OMG! It seems like needle tatting is so much easier than tatting with a crochet hook (crotat). I will definitely try this now because of your video! I look forward to watching the others as well.....thank you!!
WOW this is really easy to follow and so very pretty! Never knew exactly what this was and after investigating through your video, I’m hooked! I will have to go find supplies but I think I will really enjoy this, so thank you for sharing this awesome talent!
So glad I found you! Can't wait to try. My Grandma that lived in Louisiana used to tat. But I never learned from her because I was in another state. Hope to pass this on to my nieces. Thanks!💜
I tatted edging on a few items and even made a cross years ago with a shuttle. It was a struggle to get the hang of it, but when that first "snap" happened I was hooked. However I never enjoyed winding the thread onto the shuttle. This looks like fun with the needle, so I'll have to give this a shot. Thank you for making this video and for the very clear instructions!
Wow. I’m currently trying to learn shuttle tatting. Flipping the knot is a major hurdle for me. Needle tatting looks far easier to learn as there’s no knit flipping required.
You are a great teacher. You explain very well. Thank you for sharing. I have watched many videos and yours is the best. I will look forward to seeing more videos. Thank you so much for sharing.
Sou Brasileira gostei da sua explicação vc foi a única pessoa que eu estou tentando fazer aque não tem esse material essa agulha vc pode dizer a onde tem por favor
I've always wanted to learn how to Tat. You've given me the starting steps. I want to add them to things I'm making. I'll be watching for more videos. Thank you so very much.
Hello. Thank you so much for your videos I have been trying to tat but have never got the hang of it now I can see how I shoumd be holding everything I will be trying again
WOW! Just came across your channel had brought myself a tatting needle a book a few years ago to learn as I think it is a real neat thing to learn and really make something, there was at the time as I was a wear off videos to watch and learn so this is awesome! Subscribed to your channel! Thank you Sharing your amazing talent with us all! Looking forward in learning from your videos! Once again thank you x
Oh this is so neat! :D My grandpa was telling me about how he had women in his life that crocheted and tatted. XD I love to crochet but I'd never heard of tatting so I looked it up. This is really cool and I totally want to buy some supplies and start learning. :D
Beautiful!!! If I'd known you could tat with a needle, I'd have started long ago because I never could figure out how to use the shuttle and no one whom I knew that knew how would show me; now they're all gone! So glad to stumble across your videos. You're an excellent teacher.
I am extremely new to needle tatting and have a couple of questions. Most people go so fast and just assume everyone knows the rules. When you make a picot and finish the double stitch, in a pattern, of 3 double stitches, picot, 3 ds... does the pico always count as 1 in the second set of double stitches? (only do two more doubles after the picot?).
Thank you - very clearly explained and I get it! :) Thank you for beginning me onto a new needlecraft hobby (I also knit, crochet, tunisian crochet and weave on a 4 shaft floor loom and Sami Band Weaving on heddle).
of all the beginner vids i've seen, no one has shown how to hold the end of the thread like that! i've been going crazy for hours now! thank you for your detailed video! ox
Thank you so much for this video, I found it very easy to follow and I’m loving this craft so much! The final result looks way more complicated than it actually is!
I went to my state fair and found some cool ladies talking about tatting and I’m super interested! I’m 28 and I really want to find a new hobby! They’re having a class I’m going to go to but I want to have a leg up!
My first view and I thought I weren't interested, but you made me be intersted at all! Thank you! I'll youse it at christmess table - dishes etc.! Thanks, it was amazing!
Your technique is just want I needed as an add on for New skills. I was curious of how to make Lace gloves. Thanks to your Tutorial and Awesome instructions made easy, this is going to be an exciting project. You now have a new subscriber😃
Which is better needle tatting or shuttle .I am comfortable with shuttle . Do I have to learn needle tatting .most of the patterns are with Needle. Please suggest .In India we don't get needle tatting.
I remember one of my grandmothers doing this. I wish I had learned this when I was younger. Not very many remember tatting or know about it. So, I'm going to give it a try.
And, I get confused at when pulling needle through the stitches... when to run needle through the loop at the end before pulling it all the way through. (Is that only when making a ring?) Thanks for the tutorial. you were very detailed...dee
I've done tatting once before but it has been many many years ago. I need to learn it again. I have looked at Michaels and several other craft stores around my area here in Virginia and I have not been able to find any tatting books or tatting tools. Can you please suggest somewhere I can go to get these things? I love how the tatting is so Lacey and look so old timey and I want to pick it up again.
I found my supplies at our hobby Lobby store. Not sure u have one their. I live in Wisconsin. I think if you ask at your craft store they may be able to help you., mine was helpful even though they did not sell it.
