Very fun, next door neighbor when I was growing up inherited one like that. He was 14 I was 16. They had the engine rebuilt and when done he ask me to take him for a ride, so I was the first to drive it. Poor kid had to wait 2 years before he was able to but when he did he had the nicest car in high school.
Nice in depth comparison review. I'm leaning toward the new revell kit. Would be nice if you simultaneously built all three and do a build and finish comparison.
@@BGsModelWorkshop I bought the new mold revell, last week, for £16.99 Post free. But was nearly crushed in post as was only in a padded plastic bag 🤷♂️😖. 🤓Pete 😎
Great comparison Bryan, I built an E type about 40 years ago. Don't have any idea what the kit was but it looks great. Will have to get it out of the display someday. Ron
Thanks for doing the triple Jag open box Bryan. Interesting differences between them all. According to Scalemates, the Heller kit is a rebox from 2015. But the rest of the kits shown are coupes and that one is the cabriolet (?). You made me curious so I had to go looking. Some years ago I built the Monogram 1/25 XKE coupe. It was a really nice kit, though it did not have all the chrome the new Revell kit has. It required painting the chrome. While I was poking at the webbing, I found Revell actually had a 1/8 scale coupe. Yes, I did say 1/8. Not a typo by my fat finders. I shudder to think of the shelf space needed for that build.
I have two of the original 1963 models. The moldings are much cleaner. The problem was the tires which melted into the plastic. A minor design flaw. The chrome isn’t great either. Aftermarket tires and wheels are required and some creative construction methods due to the split body. Fun. I am going to add the new coupe. A much nicer kit. Thanks for the review.
Hi Kenneth! You are very welcome! Glad it helped you out. I do agree the older kits need tire replacement! I had one kit i had sold that actually felt like gummy worms!!
Revell one is a nice kit very nice compared to heller id both too brian enjoy build on what one u decide helker nice engine very similar to revelle but the chassis and other parts helker are just that Hell.. 👍
It isn’t actually. I looked it up on scalemates. It’s a heller original from 1978. Heller, Italeri, Esci and Revell are known to swap molds (in the past anyway) If it was a revell mold it would have been exactly the same as the revell xk-e, but the scale doesn’t match
That was a great comparison. Thanks for doing it. I have the 2020 release on order, supposedly it will be a retooled version so the molding issues won't be there. Did you eat lunch? If so, what did you eat?
great review. thoese new boxes from revell suck, my AAR cuda a pillars were crushed . no help from revell on that, I agree with you on the coupes better looking
@@BGsModelWorkshop due to the pandemic they could not do anything for me. I just straightened up best as I could used it anyway. Oh well. Hope all is well with you… your truck was unbelievable awesome 👍👍
That's understandable, Germany had some really bad numbers for a while, the must have been locked down pretty tight too. Thank you very much! We are good here, I'm starting to gear up for the Nationals in Vegas in August. 😊
@@samuelvasquez8170 nice! My Dad had Spitfire's and and MG midget. Loved those cars. Spent a lot of time at British car meets over the years, once we discovered that a spitfire was the same as an MG or an Austin sprite life got easier lol.
@@samuelvasquez8170 by the time I was a freshman in high school I was too tall for the Spitfire. I did drive my Dad's once, it was a blast!! Uncomfortable, but a blast!! 😊
Sandwich spread white? 🤣 As your unofficial kit historian, scalemates.com shows the initial release of the Heller kit to be 1978, and the same kit was also issued by Airfix.
