Great video. What I find most painful is that many these problems seem much more obvious than the usual things football nerds like to pick at. It's not wild theory crafting, but rather clear structural issues that a competent side like Denmark will be happy to exploit, let a alone a top tier team and coach.

The only midfield combination I’ve seen really work under Southgate is Rice / Phillips. Someone press resistant who can find an incisive pass from deep is so needed in this squad. That’s why I need Wharton to start alongside Rice :3

Agree with almost everything Alex, but rather than have Trent invert I’d ask Stones to step into the midfield to create the overload and have Walker and Gomez (not Trippier) tuck inside. I’d also let Rice be Rice and put Wharton at the base. Gordon (Rashford!) on the left, pick one from Bellingham and Foden.

I agree with your analysis. Put Stones, Guehi, Gomez (as right-back), and TAA as an inverted right-back. Let Rice play as the 6 and Bellingham as an advancing 8 (like Xhaka/Havertz have played at Arsenal). Position Foden as the 10 and let him alternate with Bellingham. Forward line: Gordon, Kane, Saka.

The biggest problem with England national team is that the coach picked the best players but they plays a very different clubs system from the National team system,,get a coach like Lampard who can bring the club system to the national team and transition will be easy for most players

Great content as always. I feel like Southgate gets stick which is deserved but the players are making basic mistakes that Southgate can’t control.

Some great points but major criticism of what you stated with Foden. The players have said that he's the most technical play in England, we all know he's actual a 10 not a winger. When Foden drifted centrally against Denmark we saw a glimpse but it was exactly what we needed to see from Foden from attacking & creative stand point unlike Bellingham playing as a 10. From Bellingham creating for Watkins he did it from a 8's position. Before he went to Real Madrid we were talking about his qualities as 8 not as a 10. So in short we lose so much more as a England squad with having Foden on the wing rather than Bellingham being a 8. Trent should be played as a RB but so far since Walker has been on a whole defensively solid I'd bench Trent until we need him for his creativity. Who ever is LB needs to hold the width as it's ruining our attacking potency

Grealish Palmer(F9) Eze Maddison Bellingham Foden RicoLewis(IFB) Stones White Trent(IFB) Ramsdale Bellingham is the closest player England have in terms of matching the Busquets skill set. Even if you don’t consider him a number 6, he has to be the one because no other players can do the Busquets job as good as he would. Foden, Palmer and Maddison can’t quite do that. Bellingham has played number 6 for Dortmund at times and also in youth football. Palmer can play the false 9 role like Fabregas did. RicoLewis and Trent can be the Zinchenko and Cancelo. Eze and Grealish are probably their most tricky wingers if you want some of Ronaldinho/Neymar magic in your team. Ramsdale, White and Stones are their most tiki taka capable GK and CBs.
