Ladybug Command Center - The Container Store
Butterfly Command Center - Perch system from The Container Store

Thank you!!🙌New subscriber here and its Back to School time! I have been watching command center idea videos after video!!! I'm a homeschool mama and wanted to really create a better system this year for the family of 4 !! Thank you for ALL of the wonderful visuals and unique ideas. I Very much liked the breakdown of command center personality traits!!! Believe it or not you are 💯 percent correct, you can never have too many different hubs. I have a few spread out through out the house and was trying to figure out how to bring them together into one space but you are correct!! It doesn't matter as long as it's working!!!

I just found this channel. I have ADHD, and paper organization is very difficult for me, have a hard time deciding what to keep, what to toss. Also have Asperger's so I have an excessive desire to be organized. I'm always struggling to be more tidy and fight clutter (too many receipts! Years of tax returns I might need!) A major priority to me is my good credit rating, paying bills on time, avoiding all late fees for everything, dealing immediately with overcharges and poor customer service; my adult children call me a "bulldog." Since I've had several occasions where I needed a receipt I just threw out on a "declutter day" I hesitate to throw receipts for anything. I'm drowning in all this and family pictures too. Help!

I think it's also important to remember that your command center can change! You can move it around, add, subtract, create, delete, etc. It will grow and change as your life grows and changes. But this video is terrific and will tell you everything to do. It's also a great idea to create command centers next to each child's study desk and file cabinet. Kids need command centers too and it will get them introduced to organizing their lives. You can work with them regularly to teach them how to use it, how to organize, file, and incorporate their command center into their own lives. Starting in fifth grade, a command center for each student's study desk area will help them to feel "This is my own space where I can study and work well." Check with them too to see if it's working or how they need it to change. Comfy desk chair? Comfy curl-up-and-read chair? Enough light? Enough storage space? Enough desk top area or do they need more? Your child grows! And what is enough at eleven will need to get bigger as they do too! What new ideas do they have? Go shopping with your child and help them to choose what they want to be in their own command center, to make it cute, inviting, and their own special space. "Bring up a child in the way s/he should go, and when s/he is grown, s/he will not depart from it!" Cass, this is an idea for another video: Your child's space needs to grow up with them! They are students with computers! Do they have a study area/office in their own rooms sufficient for their growing study needs? When they grow, it's time to let go of baby things!

I also lived an adventurous life at one time in my life. I loved hiking and camping; I climbed to the top of Mount Whitney and the bottom of the grand canyon and hiked and camped along the Appalachian trail for 7 months. I still love to hike, but nothing as adventurous as "The Trail," and I need a hotel, not a lump blow-up raft on the hard ground. I do sleep with my window open at night if that counts for adventure. I think you and I are plenty adventurous; it's just that our experiences changed. I mean, look at you, girl, starting your own business with spins-off businesses entrepreneurial style. You write books, you raise children, and you take fabulous vacations. Impossible to do from a tent unless you had a magical electrical outlet. Can you imagine getting those kids off to school from the tent you lived in? Life gets real, so we get real. We both put ourselves out there, taking risks every day; that's adventurous.

About 10 years ago our then 2 teen boys and husband went to a theme park and rode the Intimidator coaster. I thought I was going to die!! I came to the realization that Rollercoasters after 40 are not fun anymore. After that ride was the scrambler. That is not fun anymore either. So nerve racking....

Yes, I too was adventurous. I'd ride on the bow of our boat on lake Ontario. The bigger the swells, and dips the more I hooped and yelled,...but then I became a mom. The first time I went out on the boat I was a wreck, couldn't wait to get to shore. Instincts to survive to care for your little ones! Normal.
@godsqtchik
@godsqtchik Год назад
Yeah I'm the same way. I think it's just how we're designed for survival. We're more adventurous when we're young & supposed to be finding a mate & then we get older & our bodies slow us down as we age, but we also become protective mama bears constantly griping at our adventurous kids to be safer. 🤣 It's just the cycle of life, I guess.

I had mine on a wall above a buffet table in the kitchen. It worked perfect. I had a cork board with a calendar, hooks with each of the kids important papers, etc….But our a-hole cat started clawing at the cork board at night and ripping everything down and clawing up the board! So thinking it was because he must think it’s a scratching board for him, I switched to a magnet board which is a lot smaller and less functional for us…the cat still climbs up on the buffet and pulls the papers and magnets down! 😂 it’s funny, but it’s not! He must not like my attempt to organize.

I have learned to allow 30-40 mins to watch one of your videos. For instance, whilst watching this video I'm looking around my desk and seeing the things that are working for me vs the things that most definitely are NOT. In my mind I'm thinking of what I have around the house than can work to make this better. I have my Ideas Journal at the ready making notes and funny little diagrams. My Dad was an accountant and my Mum a bookkeeper with a home office and I was a legal secretary for 10 years or so and I've always had filing cabinets, paper diaries and wall calendars and my desk had one designated spot my boss and other people could put things for my attention and a pen holder for the "borrowing" pens. No one messed with my notebook and pen. At home it's been sharing a desk with other people (husband and 4 kids) that I've found the most difficult. I'm with you about the rollercoasters. Now I don't even like climbing a ladder. Did I mention my husband is a carpenter and we built and now renovating our house (30 yrs later) and he always wants me to "climb a ladder and hold this"? I always seem to get that blasted rickety ladder too!

Coupons I know or think I will use go directly into a specific spot in my wallet so I always have them with me when I’m shopping. I’ve also started making my shopping list in the notes on my phone so I don’t forget to grab the list on my way out, and when I run out of something I add it to the correct notes on my phone immediately. I always have one generic one for Groceries, one for Shopping (for non-grocery items such as clothing or home decor) and one under the name of the nearest larger city for items I can’t find locally. That last one is a great save because if I happen to be there for something else I can check to see if there’s anything I need to buy while I’m there. If I’m planning an IKEA run (the nearest one is 2 hours away) I create a list for all the items I want to look at, things I want to get ideas for, items I want to check interior dimensions on, etc. I also make notes about what the website says is and is not in stock before I leave. I was slow to give up paper and pencil, but I’ve LOVED always having my list with me!
@ldwernychuk
@ldwernychuk Год назад
I do the same with the coupons and phone list. I always have my phone with me, but not always paper and pen. If I thought of something while I am at work, I would write it on a piece of paper, never to be seen again. But if I can grab my phone and add it to the list right away....I know I will remember it. Also, I can put a star or something beside an item to remind me I have a coupon. Or I will put 'use points' to remind me that I have enough loyalty points for a store.

I think the way for me will be to live in the new space for a while and see where my new "command center" wants to be. Then I can watch this video again and set it up!☺

I've changed too. I think we change because not only do we grow up but we are responsible for others and in a way we just kind of lose our old selves. It sounds like we have something in common though because I would rather just stay home too. LOL. But then again when we used to like to go out when we were younger we didn't have all the bills and debt responsibility did we? I still love the way my life turned out.

Oh my gosh, your rant at the end is me!! 😂 All growing up until my mid-twenties, I used to be so adventurous and outgoing, always out and about, talking to or hanging out with people. Now I’m an introvert that only wants to be at home with my husband and our cats lol and my hobbies are quite different than my younger years. It’s something I’ve thought of before, how different I am than the me from 10, 15, 20 years ago. Sometimes I see it as a good thing, sometimes there are things I miss about the old me. I wish I had an answer for you as to why, but I still haven’t figured that out.

No Cass, it’s because you became a mom 😘 Happened to me too. I loved aventure, like… really crazy things in the amazonian jungle, i went with nothing, built a « house » with trees, ate animals i hunted. I ride horse too. Always pushing myself higher and harder. And then surprise! i had an amazing baby: risks were suddenly over, for example with my horse i was afraid of hurting myself (never before!!), because who could take care of my son if i was hurt? So… uncounsciously, it’s because you have to survive to care about your children. Yeap, natural instinct 😉

For me, it was the Mom Gene. As soon as I gave birth, everything scared me. No more sitting on the edge of a cliff leaning over, looking down. Heck I can't even ride in a vehicle in the mountains anymore without freaking out. My oldest if 40 and my youngest will be in a couple years. I'm a Grammy to a 14-year-old and a 9-year-old! Great video, by the way.

Wonderful video. I think part of your change is having kids. Both physically because or moans and pregnancy change how you’re able to tolerate things like roller coasters and heights and elevators, but also your priorities have changed because you want to keep yourself safe so that you can take care of your kids

Hi I’m a clutter bug and it’s through out my whole house. So over wheelmend . Really enjoying your vedios trying to get inspired. I’ve tried before and very little done and back a mess. But I watched one of your vedios and think I need a buddy. I’m perfectionist and big procrastinator. But praying for the grace to start. Another of vedios just turned and you are describing me as you are describing the other person on the vedio. It the Emotion organizing. And I need to let go and devorice stuff. I think if I can conquer the clutter. And get organized which I love that part only lol. I will regain my health and lose weight. And be sooooo less stress. Thanks for sharing. I really needed it.

That is SOOO funny about rides. I was always into roller coasters and just all the twirl you around rides. Went to all 4 parks in FL recently, and after standing in the queue, chickened out when it was my family's time to get on Space Mountain. I think I heard the announcement one time too many about if you will be affected by sudden drops, lifts, bumps, jerks etc, this might not be the ride for you. I decided to listen to my feelings and declined to ride. Although the employee kinda had a smirk when he said, 'You're not going?' And showed me the exit, I watched as my senior citizen mom, sister, brother in law and two nieces happily got on. I just don't care for rides anymore that have the waist security bars. I'd feel more willing with the bars over my entire body, say for instance if anyone ever went on the Hulk ride. I definitely prefer low key rides now. :)

Hey Cas I am a Swiss mum, the same age like you and also adhd diagnosed. I think all our experiences with our crazy being made us maybe a little more calm. We know how it feels doing crazy things because we have already experienced it and we know about consequences with some of it. I am so happy not to be 20 anymore. I am way more satisfied now then I was when I was younger. But it did made my life easier 🤣🤣🤣 in a way I am still crazy 🤪

Hi Cas, I guess it's the age. Don't worry, I'm the same way. When I was in college (I was 20-25 years old) I had no problem traveling and I was fit even though I stayed up all night. Now I will be 42, I still love to travel, but I am terribly tired every time. To make matters worse, for the last 3 years I have been literally exhausted and I have to have an energy drink here and there in the afternoon (not every day) in order to be able to last until the evening. It often happens that I look forward to going to bed at night since the morning.😁

Sometime in my late teens I got health issues with adventurous things. When I was a teenager I was in the boy scouts, camped, loved it, got exhausted and slept for three days when I got home. In my early twenties I went white water rafting. Next week I had pneumonia. Not a cold, not the flu, full blown pneumonia. Since then my mantra is: "Playing solitaire in the computer is an adventure for me." I was invited to go skydiving. My answer: "A plane is a mode of locomotion, takes you from A to B. Why would I jump from it before it gets there?" I could already picture myself in cast, with multiple broken bones. Yeah, I would have stuck that landing! Minus the T in stuck.
