Nice to find another angler into BFS. Subbed! I have 2 of the xf-50 reels, which came before the spirit fox. The spirit fox is pretty much a newer version of the xf-50 with a lighter spool. Anyways I'm going to be getting 2 of the lighter spirit fox spools for my xf-50s, because they have the same dimensions.
you done well to cast that far with that small weight, the perch at the end, they do that in sweden when you catch them because they are cold, so perhaps thats why?
Just found your channel! Really want to get into BFS fishing just a bit wary of the bait caster style! Only ever used fixed spoil reels. Have you got a link to where you got your set up from? Tight lines 🎣 * apologies, just noticed the links in the description 🙈
I go to USA every year for 8 weeks lure fishing it's a great place to fish i bought 3 piscifun baitcasters from USA last year absolutely fantastic reels fishing the everglades wa absolutely amazing had some fantastic fish made lots of friends while i was there can't wait to get back ALIEN
I was fishing my local stretch the other week using my Abu Garcia black max, and I met a guy from Wrexham who had traveled to Ellesmere Port canal, Shropshire union, he had a bfs system and he let me have a go of it, now I’m trying my absolute hardest to find one keeps saying out of stock every
To get a backlash on the Roxani I have to really work at it, loaded with 50m of 7-lb fluoro (the lightest I had on hand). It is specified to 8-lb nylon (mono, fluoro, etc) or 0.235mm braid. Japanese BFS reels are generally rated for 4-6-lb 'nylon' or PE 0.4 - 0.6, the latter numbers are japanese 'guow' scale for grading silk, and braid - 0.07mm to 0.13mm diameter. A heavier line shot out will weigh more than the light lure and overtake it resulting in a mess. The Roxani is shallow spool but not the lightest, the important thing seems to be inertia on the spool. Outwardly similar to my Revo4 SX, it casts very differently. Cheaper gearbox and less bearings, but the important bearings are those on the spool. To reduce casting line weight use a light line and only put as much on as you need; it may hold 100m but 50m is more than enough. Braid will not break but not the best presentation and the little rods do not like leader knots going though that eye of a needle tip ring. Fwiw the SX is my LRF reel, heavier lure, longer cast, heavier braid line, but sill reduced fill.
Hi Jeff. The rod is 1.5 meters and cost less than £20 so very cheap but I am impressed with it. I am using 8lb braid and I have had no issues with backlashes. The shallow spool holds more than enough line for the use it gets. I have not bothered to to upgrade the bearings just keep them well washed out and good quality oil. This kit is good enough for my needs and capable of dealing with the local Perch. Thanks Peter
What length is that rod? I've noticed the japanese like to use very short 5-ft (~1.5m) rods for UL and cast with a fast effortless flick letting the rod do the work, quite different to the long lob of a beachcaster with a slosh.
@@PeterFryfishing I don't have an answer for that. I've only used shimano reels. I have the aldebarran 50mgl and I love it. Also love the chronarch mgl.
Peter Fry Thanks Peter that’s great info. I’ll get some fluorocarbon leader then for mine and have a look for some good traces. I’m really looking forward to giving it a try. I just bought myself an Abu Garcia silver max combo. It was just over £70 for the rod and reel all in. It’s a new style of fishing to me completely
@@alexpage7292 I tend to use between 8 & 10lb flourocarbon when perch fishing (8 to 10lb braid main line). Wire traces in the canal I use 12lb wire. Tight Lines
Just check out Aĺiexpress and search fishing, watch out for import duty when ordering. I payed it on the reel but not the rod. Might be worth an Ebay search as well 👍
@@PeterFryfishing Thanks. I got a spirit fox recently and a similar rod. The reel came with fluorocarbon on it and im struggling to with over running line so im thinking to change to braid mainline
@@rhommy I am using 8lb braid ( I already had some). Try turning the magnetic brake to full on and then backing it off with each cast until you find the sweet spot. I am impressed with the reel, it casts well and has a good drag. Cheers Peter
Hi. It is a spirtfox reel from China which is very cheap at around £50 uk from Aliexpress or ebay. There is a link in the in the description. Thanks Peter
