Please do more videos for this series! I love Les Mis- the book and the musical- and it’s so rare to find a deep dive about it in such an enjoyable format!

This was anything but unhinged, I loved it! Regarding the age of Cosette, is it possible she'd been born before That Guy left them? He doesn't strike me as someone who'd care about leaving behind a child either, and they'd been together two years.

Please continue when you have time! I’m loving all of your content; The Hunger Games essays are phenomenal. But as a huge Les Miserables and Victor Hugo fan (both book and musical), I loved this so much.

Sorry i did try to view the video until the end but i had to stay at half of it. Note that i liked your analysis of it. My reasons are more personal. I haven't returned to that story in so many years. And earing the retell of some of it was moving me that i had to stop. And maybe write a comment to mutter about my reaction? Is it time for a weird random anonymous rant? I am not french but i grew up in France in the decade of 70. I have no idea how it is now, but at the time that story was very present and almost everybody (even kids) knew it in some way or another. And it was a very powerful life story in the culture of the time. As a kid, i was impressed by the story but never really understood it. It is a very heavy one. But it seems to me that this type of stories were more the norm than what we see nowadays. Or is it maybe that i have learned to filter the content that i want to see? As most kids i was quick to classify things that i didn't understand using easy labels (ethics and morals and whatever) that i was taught by society. So that coin scene in the story was emotionally impressive but it ended just being intellectually classified as abstractly dramatic. What else can one kid do when trying to make sense of an "adult story"? Is there any really sense to make of it? But now, that coin scene of Valjean and the kid is really too relatable. And there is no longer any abstraction for me. It is a very hard scene to swallow. Now i think. Can anyone reach a certain age and never have been in the shoes of the protagonist making such cruel action? To never have put down ones foot on the happiness of another human being? I never was one to regret anything. Who cares? As long as i am aware and shoulder the consequences. What will be is what will be. The scars are mine to carry. And if others which to share the scars then so what? Their decision. Yeah. Some attitudes are not what i would portray as being very smart. That whole "being tough" as a man was a real, mostly unspoken, male teaching and expectation at the time of my growing up. One of those things that looks like it is less valued in many parts of the "modern world" now, but i don't think it will ever will disappear (unless the future tech changes us beyond recognition). I believe it to be one of those necessary things of life but who really knows what will happens? But is it a good thing? A "good thing". Every time i a use the word "good" i can only think as me returning to being a kid. Such an easy word to throw out there. Now i wonder emotionally about my chaotic actions. It seems that age is finally getting to me. When we feel weaker is when we feel doubt. On the other hand it is interesting to note that even these "thoughts" won't change who we are and what we really do. At most It might make us more aware and careful of others? Of arming them? Of arming our self? Will this wondering lead me to be more aware? Probably not. Nonetheless I am glad that more people are discovering this story. There are many more great stories to discover out there, as long as people are open to them.
