What if (bc of the propaganda theme) we follow the perspective of the careers, who are brainwashed to believe this is an honor, and then the career realize how this isn't really an honor and then die lol
I'm sure she gets this a lot, but your sister looks like Alia Shawkat. When I saw that first clip of your sister I thought you used a random clip of Alia Shawkat and you were going to say that she was in one of the plays.
I laughed at first when you brought up there being a dog, but now it's the only prediction I'm invested in.. I think you're right? There's a 'domesticated labor' allegory there I can smell it!!
I haven’t seen the ART version, but I saw the Broadway Great Gatsby… GIRL. I have so many words for everyone tearing down that show. It was phenomenal. No Tony nom for the set is an actual crime.
I also think a career tribute is a possibility. like I know that we got a tributes perspective(as in Katniss) but I feel like a career tribute Perspective would be different
If it's seeing the games through someone who we have met and sees the games for what they are what about Tigris? She was a stylist for years before her self mutilation went too far.
i can tell you had so much fun making this video and it was SO much fun to watch and hear your thoughts! i hope you keep trying different video styles and formats and taking us on adventures with you
Katniss agreed to the “last hunger games” so that coin would announce it to the masses before Katniss shot her. So that everyone would know what’s gonna happen if anyone ever decided to have a hunger games again. Katniss wanted everyone to know why coin deserved to die. Katniss killed 2 president snows that day. She knew the people would tear snow apart whether she shot him or not
10:52 nah, I don't think Mages' mother and haymitch like each other because it's been stated that haymitch had a girlfriend when going into the hunger games and that she was killed after haymitch did the whole force field sh!t
She also wrote Katnis's instead of Katniss', which really bugs me, that it's so obvious, but isn't pointed out. But wouldn't failing to correct the perspective count as a mistake still..? It was still a typo missed by editor and author.
My opinion on Gale has been formed from a point where I never really saw the romance angle on my first reading, and even when I recently reread the books, it never really felt like a legitimate option or like either of them felt actual romance towards each other. But I always saw him as the necessary evil, not a good person by any measure, but also without him and people like him the rebellion would likely have failed. With how the Capitol was happy to just keep oppressing, torturing and murdering anyone who got in the way of their tyranny, the only way to stop them was by force, and with the balance of power the way it was, there was no clean way to win. District 2 is the best example here. The rebels were stuck, with no way to advance, while the capitol just keeps bombing anyone they want to, including civilians (as they have demonstrably done before). The options were trying to storm the fortress, which was likely impossible and would have been slow with massive casualties for the rebels or going for more unconventional, and cruel, tactics to get them out (or just bury them all, which Katniss actually stopped). So yeah, definitely evil, but also with a distinct lack of other options.
I don't think that it'll be the sister you talk about, because Haymitch confirms his family (mother brother girlfriend) were killed later on; but I do think there's a possibility it will be from Haymitch's girlfriend's perspective because the insight we already have into his games.
I 100% believe it will be from the perspective of Madge's mum (maysileee's sister) - a district 12 perspective of someone who isn't in the games but can see the affect on the districts. We know all of haymitch's family and his girlfriend are killed after his games so the most logical person would be her! Will also be nice to know her first name and see how she changes once her sister is killed
I hope that it’s from a random person from the capitol’s POV, if only bc Suzanne has always said she only writes when she has something to say. I think she tried to humanize the victims of war (iraq at that point, palestine w/ us) with the og trilogy, tried to give an insight into the mind if those in power with BOSAS and now it’ll be like “you are still not getting what I’m telling you, you are the capitol, you’re being manipulated and need to open your eyes”. In my mind the first books were basically “you should care, they are human and you’re benefitting from the slaughter”. The second is “No one is exempt and even if you think you can trust them they’ll always be willing to sacrifice you for their gain” and this one will hopefully be like a final wake up call that the only ones who can chose to end the cycle of oppression, imperialism and war is ourselves.
Ive always wanted a book about Annies games (but from finnicks perspective). I just think it would be so interesting seeing him fall for her, him having to deal with not knowing whats going to happen, & what its like when she returns. Like when did she snap & when did he realize she wasn't the same?
I'm confused. I'm pretty sure it wasn't just Haymitchs mother & little brother that were killed but his girlfriend too. Snow got angry how Haymitch won so when Haymitch returned his mom & brother were slaughtered. Along with his girlfriend. Not saying your theories are wrong. Just cause he had a girlfriend doesn't mean that madges mom was in love with him or that he was into her too. Just mentioning you seem to have forgotten a big portion of Haymitchs background.
Will be interesting if Art Gatsby comes to Broadway. I saw Great Gatsby and thought it was fine, but none of it wowed me. Great Gatsby is Definitely not the best show of the season.
Haymitch is a veteran in the purest sense. He’s exactly like what the world does to veterans. Lauding them for being heroes while simultaneously ignoring the glaring substance abuse and mental health that comes from the trauma of being in that life. Haymitch has seen the disgusting underbelly of the Capitol firsthand, and it drives him to drink.
20:51 Katniss puts it together because it’s Gales trap. The same thing that he wanted to do with the mountain. Sending bombs then drawing more people into the trap and bombing again. She knows it’s gales bomb (This is the part in mocking Jay when she asks him) We stand there, face-to-face, not meeting each other's eyes. "You didn't come see me in the hospital." He doesn't answer, so finally I just say it. "Was it your bomb?" "I don't know. Neither does Beetee," he says. "Does it matter? You'll always be thinking about it." He waits for me to deny it; I want to deny it, but it's true. Even now I can see the flash that ignites her, feel the heat of the flames. And I will never be able to separate that moment from Gale. My silence is my answer.
15:33 it’s not just the three of them that survive, Cressida and Pollux also survive. They just don’t leave with Gale and Katniss. They stay with Peeta
as you were talking about the acting of myrtle in the regional production i was like omg who is this actress then you put in that it was solea pfeiffer and it all made sense. she is sooooo incredible in everything she does!!
Hey! Loved the video and the analysis! I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Coillins is releasing a book about Haymitch’s Games next year! I’m really excited to see how these Games shaped him into the mentor we know him as One thing I wanted to say is about something you brought up: Katniss’ mom. I’m in agreement with you, I was never a huge fan of her and she just bothered me. But I think someone said something about why Katniss’ mother doesn’t go back to 12. And that’s because of Prim. One thing in the book that I always remember is that after Katniss’ father dies, her mom becomes despondent. She becomes severely depressed and basically shuts down, forcing Katniss to fill the “mother” role she wouldn’t. Katniss had to hunt, barter, trade, and nearly died trying to keep her mom, herself, and Prim alive. It’s a really big reason as to why Katniss and her are never really close in the books. She still resents her mother (or a part of her does) for forcing her daughter to make sure they wouldn’t die of starvation. That’s why when Katniss is about to be shipped off for her first Games, she begs her mom not to fall back into that same state when she dies. This time, she won’t be there to keep the family alive and she’s not going to let Prim be the one who has to take care of her mom, should she lose. Which brings me to my original point. After Prim dies, she falls back into the same state, or something similar to it, and has no real reason to return to 12. 12 is a wasteland of what it used to be due to the bombings from the Capitol. They have no real home, at least Katniss’ mother doesn’t. District 12 is full of sorrow and heartbreak and loss and she has no real ties there anymore. She and Katniss aren’t close, not like how she and Prim were, not like how Katniss and Prim were. So, with no real motivation to return to 12, Katniss leaves her mom, and her mom doesn’t go back. Idk if I’m accurate but thats what i got lol
I want the perspective from another district. We all know 12 very well. Now let’s see what 13 was like going into the war between them and the capital. Or someone from district 1. I’m sure 1 and 3 weren’t all roses and sunshine. But I’ll be happy if this is about haymitch or a love interest for him. I just hope her taking all this time to write new books means she’s putting a lot of thought into connecting it to the rest of the books.
The video quality is sooo good, congrats Meredith! Great Gatsby is one of my favorites (i read it around 30 times so far, crazy, i know). Awesome to hear from you, cheers! And all the love to your sister, her style is so good
Hanging tree was a forgotten song because not many remembered the 10th hunger games. It was passed down in her family. Someone in her family had to be covey at least
Hey Meredith its Jon. I got a name change so i am Angel now. Every good life adventure begins with “i was drinking with my dnd group when…”. I am so glad you able to see both shows, and that you had a good time.
this was such an interesting watch! i gotta say i have no clue who our pov character will be (or even if it will only be one), but regarding tigris and snow's falling out i have a pet theory that makes me think we won't quite see the aftermath of it in this book - it'll still be the buildup. one thing we know about tigris from tbosas is that she likely did some manner of s*x work to bring in money for her family. we know eventually snow starts forcing victors into a similar situation, most notably with finnick. we also know that tigris was a stylist at least long enough for katniss to recognize her from capitol tv, so she probably worked on the games until around finnick's games, when katniss would have been around 7. i think that tigris might have been a stylist in finnick's games - not sure if for him or not - but once she found out what was happening to him and other tributes with them being forced to use their bodies the way she had to all those years ago, she finally decided to break ties with snow once and for all. this is entirely conjecture on my part lol so i have no idea if this would be accurate, but regardless i would love to see more about her and snow's deteriorating relationship in sotr!!!
She agreed to the games as a symbolic exchange in support of Coin for getting to personally execute Snow (allowing her room to kill Coin). It's the reason Haymich agrees with her because he trusts that she has a plan. It's really simple in terms of interpersonal interactions and Coins understanding and use of Katniss as a rallier of mass support - whatever way Katniss leans people lean with her. If coin wanted support, she gets it easiest with Katniss.
