I wasn’t exactly team Jacob, because I liked Edward too and she clearly loved him more, but when I was 11 and first read it I loved New Moon, because of the part in which they fix the bikes and chat and Bella slowly seems to heal. And I loved Jacob for it, for being so sweet and warm and dependable. I guess I was also having a bit of a bad period and I felt really lonely, so the idea of being seen and understood and loved like that felt good. All of this of course, through the eyes of an 11 years old; now I know they’re all bad o.O
The brainwashing 🤣. Also Jacob is so complicated. I remember when the books came out the, split from team Edward vs. team Jacob reminded me a lot of the Harry Potter schools. I never had the chance to connect with people about either Twilight or Harry Potter, because I didn’t read as a kid due to a learning disability. I’m glad i was able to enjoy them as an adult.

i never liked Edward or Jacob. I thought they were both ab*sive characters that were terrible role models for little girls to fall for that had to come out of some backwards Mormon ideas of family, and continued to show the standard Mormon love to make up native american history for their own benefit with no concern for the tribes being lied about. Like Edwards controlling behavior that ignores Bella's autonomy creeped me out, or what bland character he came across as with little to no personality outside of "protecc Bella". The way Jacob didn't value Bella's autonomy either so much that he forced a kiss on her is just straight up assault from my perspective, and also ruined Charlie for me, one of the only characters I liked before that point because he supported Jacob assaulting her. Also telling her he'd basically try to unalive himself was super emotionally manipulative. Like if a partner tells you they're going to unalive themselves if you don't do something for them, massive red flag. Everything about the whole series hit so many red flags for me in a way no YA novel has ever done where I just felt icky the more I read, and lost the more popular it became cause it made me believe I was a weirdo to feel this negative way about what I'm reading when everyone else seemed to react so positively. I thought maybe I just could never relate to kids my age cause they couldn't see what to me was very toxic behavior. I used to say I was team Victoria back then since at least the story wasn't trying to cover up or excuse her toxic behavior like with the love interests.
In the books, I was 100% team Edward, but I had the hugest crush on Taylor Lautner so I was team Jacob when it came to the movies 😂 Because the movie team was fully based on looks, I consider myself an Edward girlie to my core
I think another point that should be made ab Bella’s attraction to Edward and why she was willing to give everything up for him was her blatant disregard for her own life & needs before she met him (going back to ur twilight analysis) but what I really wanna talk about is her sudden desire for immortality.. can’t wait to watch the rest of these video essays and see what you have to say ab that

I think both guys are toxic and stupid...but I enjoy reading them anyway. I will not let my daughter read them until she's old enough to see the problems instead of romaticizing it.

Love for you to explore the dynamics of jacob and reneesme. This is a girl forced to be with jacob though she will outlive him. She is not allowed to explore any other relationship because im sure jacob would kill them. Jacob is also entangled with her because their thing that attaches them wont allow him to be with another woman.
A thought I've always had when watching the movies and reading the books for the first time, and ESPECIALLY when hearing Jacob being a stubborn ass and listing the reasons why Bella should be with him instead, is that we knew from the third book that the wolves could imprint, and that it was fairly common (several in the tribe had already imprinted), and we knew Jacob hadn't imprinted on Bella, and we hadn't gotten to the last book yet when Jacob imprints on Renesmee. This means if Bella had chosen Jacob, and he, a year or two later imprinted on someone else, he would've dumped her so fast. That was my biggest reason for not being team Jacob when I read the books, because I thought it would make their relationship too uncertain, especially when knowing the Sam-Leah-Emily issue. I got kind of annoyed that none of them ever brought up that hypothetical risk of him possibly imprinting on someone else while being in a relationship with Bella...
tbh I was never really team anyone (I don't remember discussing twilight as a kid with anyone but my vampire obsessed friend who introduced them to me), but I did love Jacob in New Moon. I knew that it was all set up for Bella to go back to Edward, but her relationship with Jake seemed more appealing and cozier to me. If I was in that position I would have picked Jacob lol but obviously Bella is too obsessed. I remember also feeling like Smeyer did a bit of character assassination in the third book when Jake starts being a jerk... basically everything arie said, although I don't remember ever thinking jacob actually had a chance
the way this whole series is making me feel soooo foolish bc the only reason i was Team Jacob was SOLELY because he was a werewolf and i’ve always had an obsession with werewolves……
well part of the reason I liked jacob is that he had long dark hair which was way cuter than whatever copper short hair edward had going on, so team jacob because of liking werewolves is totally legit
LOVED the video. i read the books when i was in maybe 4th or 5th grade and i remember at that time the conversations i was having with my fellow 10 year olds about it were just so shallow. team jacob just meant team guy with abs and so i was team edward to spite those normies. and to be fair most of them had probably only seen the movies.
I love this 😂😂 tbh I’m surprised I wasn’t team guy with abs back then!! I’ve always thought them making Edward look like he was in pain kissing Bella kind of ruined the romance of the movie for me and I always thought the Jake stuff was better there!! My original theory was that Jake fans were the movie fans but that fell apart upon investigation so idk 🤷🏻♀️
