Oh hell yes the Wild +4 rule. I once looked up the actual rules to Monopoly and forced my friends to play with 0 house rules so I'm absolutely the kind of person to vibe off of that. Interestingly, monopoly with no house rules is like an hour long game and honestly superior
SO many house rules in monopoly give more money to the players. I mean the whole point is making your competition bankrupt, OF COURSE more money in play would mean the game would take longer! But does anyone listen? Nooo...and so Monopoly becomes the game no one ever finishes.
And as is probably pointed out all the time, that’s the point, Monopoly is intended to drag out and have one person snowball the others, just like IRL. I mean it’s there in the name.
I played God Monopoly with my 5 year old niece one time (we made it up). Basically she plays the bank and we played as if she literally owned every single tile (we started with extra money) and we basically tried to wring back the control of the world from her with shady deals and dumb arguments (reminder she was 5). Some of the most fun I've had playing a board game. Impossible with an adult though, cant beat a fully developed brain when they play as god. ( I say she was five, but I literally cannot tell the age of children and it's been a while, she could've been anywhere from 4 to 8 really)
Its usually Disciplinary Committee or Student Morals Committee And yes, Student Councils often do have the ability to implement moderate rules like banning certain things within reason, Japanese education systems really like to have political involvement/governance be Part of School, so the Student Council typically has some actual weight to the rules and standards rather than just being the five bozos stuck handling the bi-monthly fairs
My first exposure to Uno as a child was through some really strange old Windows variant called Hot Death Uno, which had a bunch of strange special cards, such as one which, when played forces everyone to place their hand face up, or a card that could be played as either a 6 or a 9, Yes, it's exactly what you think it is. That sort of shenaniganry seems very in the spirit of anime.
We really didn't know the Student Council President was the true hero after all. The Demon Child gains her power from UNO, and now that UNO is a worldwide sensation, there truly is nothing stopping her from destroying the world. An UNO. This was a fun video to watch, there truly are many video games out there in the world.
The only way to beat this monster is to win at Uno without letting her play a single card. Lucky for the destined challenger, she allows you one house rule and first play.
I'd like to see the pitch meeting for some of these. "Alright, hear me out. A videogame based around UNO. At one point you have to play against a pair of twins where one is a bishie in a suit and the other is a tomboy making wacky expressions" "P E R F E C T" "And then you have to beat a child" "NICE"
11:45 Correct me if I'm wrong (I might be), but I think as of 2023, the scoring rules were demoted to a suggestion, with "default" rules now being the common house rule of only tracking win count.
i honestly couldn't have the foggiest idea about any potential UNO errata that may have occurred at any point in time. the idea of a rule revision in 2023 is kind of funny on face value to me
I think the giraffe is meant to be the Wild Draw 4 challenge, since it has a six on its head, and "Giraffe" when sounded out in Engrish sounds like "Draw Four"? I dunno.
Oh great, they actually have the point system in the game, if it didn't I'd be super surprised. The points system in a group setting actually makes holding all your special cards a possible issue, so you can actually be punished for hoarding. Removing points actually unbalances Uno quite a bit. Not that anyone really cares. Also draw forever is a better rule than stacking, anyone can fight me on that. (Oh and great video again Punchy, was happy to see you did a video on Uno!)
I actually owned a LCD handheld Uno game for up to three AI opponents. That did use a point system for the winner. If memory serves, the 'official' (lack of a better word) Uno game on Steam uses a point system as well.
Amazing! You did the real rules of uno in the best worst possible way. Next up: Punchy finds a cribbage anime sports game for the Game Boy, the original and plays the entire series! Seriously though, I love this, it's a great look at something blisteringly odd.
God, Cribbage! In theory, I love it. But without a computer game showing me the options... knowing the rules in real time against an experienced player leaves me open to giving up like 6 points a hand in things I forget to declare. Ugh.
Personally I love draw 2 and draw 4 stacking along with other special card stacking, it lets you defend yourself and horribly screw someone else over. The biggest I've ever seen it get was like +16 cards during a 6 person game.
Problem is that it just encourages hoarding draw cards or special cards, and typically punishes you for using a draw card. It becomes a detriment more than a benefit.
@@LinkSlayer64Which is why I am in favor of the point system. Since they're worth a lot of points, and you want to have low points, they'll make you dead last if you hoard them too long
@@LinkSlayer64it also easily turns a minor penalty into one that's literally insurmountable, it's fun to cackle about some poor schmuck having to triple their hand, but it's not, like, good from a gameplay perspective
Lmao, lol even. I've once contributed into giving +20 to the person next to me by using only +2 and +4 can stack against their kind. The reason is? I have two +4 cards and only use one to stack against the person before me first, before using another +4 to save my ass when everyone also put +4 in to stack against the other person
okay I know "draw until you have a valid card" isn't an actual rule, but I usually make it a house rule because I'm a horrible person who enjoys finding out what colors a person doesn't have and manipulating the game so those are the only colors that ever come up, even if it makes my life harder. I'm not here to win, I just want to make everyone's day worse.
I came across that Uno DX intro a few years back and distinctly remember the buildup to what looked like a cheap high school VN suddenly showing it's hand and revealing it's an Uno tie in 😂
...By any chance, did you discover this via a Tweet that was going around that was like, "watch this game intro and try to guess what it could possibly be about, I dare you?" LMAO at least that's how I first heard of this insane thing! PS: the final track did indeed slap.
2:45 Somehow this game's protagonist literally being named Uno is not surprising to me when you consider the protagonist of Yu-Gi-Oh is named Yugi Muto. I'd be interested to learn if Shun'ichi's name creates a pun or reference.
That op in the first game was basically just Girlchan in Paradise. yes I know Girlchan is an over exaggerated anime parody and that's the point, but I was watching the op and was just like "that's literally just Girlchan"
When I was in college, we came up with "Drinking Rules" for Uno. It's actually surprisingly easy to adapt Uno into a drinking game. Any time it would have been your turn to place a card but another Player's turn denies this, you drink. If someone plays a Draw 2 or Draw 4 on you, you must also take that many drinks. If another player changes the color and you can't play, you drink. You basically have to take a drink unless you can play a card.
Great video! The world must know of Anime UNO and to fear Demon Child. Now we only need a fan translation group with the time (and possibly paying supporters) to translate this so people around the world could fully enjoy Anime PS1 UNO (and maybe PS2 Anime UNO if they have a bit of extra time). For now tho, at least you've managed to get the world a better look at Anime UNO. Baby steps (...into madness). (Lol, but srsly I would actually play this just to read the likely cheesey sports anime plot/writing if it were translated. Anybody else?)
i do happen to know the game has been seriously considered by at least one translation group with the requisite skill in both hacking and Japanese to produce a fan translation as a viable project but no guarantee they ever get around to it. at any rate this being translated is certainly like. possible.
I can’t believe this video doesn’t already have a million views due to its bizarre premise, thank you for bringing this to my attention. I’ve shared it with my sister and she found it hilarious too
Draw 2 stacking rule works better in a group setting than a 1 v 1 setting. In a group setting you can get sent straight to the shadow realm if you misplay your draw 2 by everyones cumulative stack. Adding a little layer of strategy on the order what kind of cards you play. In a 1 v 1 it’s usually the person who has the most draw 2 stacked that wins. More like a stand off to see who plays first. I have experience playing Uno during homeroom throughout my whole high school experience, so I know a whole lot. I think we combined two packs together lol. We also had 4+ card stacking which absolutely made it terrifying when it managed to loop back to you.
Given the complete madness that is this video (which is pretty much the norm when it comes to Punchy), the least I can do is to donate through this comment. The sheer chaotic entertainment was too enjoyable not to chip in.
With Draw 2/Draw 4 stacking, I kinda look at it from the reverse position to you. I like the stacking because it means that you do have a way out if you're the one who gets stuck in the kill combo. It can also lead to some funny collusion where one person has to draw a stupid amount of cards because everyone stacked. Then again, I don't play Uno all that much so maybe my filthy casual perspective is flawed somehow. It's honestly the most I've ever thought about the Uno rules.
I faintly remember a monopoly RPG on SNES made by the same team as earthbound…for some reason. I never really got far in it cuz RPG’s are text heavy and I can’t read Japanese _outside_ of some basic words
Finally the UNO content RU-vid has been craving... But honestly I´ve lurked in your UNO streams and you´ve made it fun everytime. Great video, really enjoyed the editing and your humour!
actualy fucking insane video hook, i was just clicking on reccomended videos because i was hoping for a song to come into my reccomended, and then boom, now i am watching this while playing a fighting game
About the Sega Saturn part you could modify a Action Replay cartridge and turn it into a ""backup"" loader to play ur "backups" without needing to shell out for a copy of it.
The opening animation for this game is worth the price of admission alone. I also cried a little inside when the six-person match-up happened and you had no joy in it, LOL. Thanks for the great content!
Me and my friends love stacking so much that we have an ultraspeed house rules that enables stacking, multi card play with two +2 can stack on a +4, and run on a reverse last man standing which dictates the order and shuffler for the next game. Have 30 cards on hand? No problem, put down all 8 2's on the next turn.
I can kinda see what they were trying to do with UNO PSX? There was a proliferation of TCG-based RPGs during that genre's boom, but unlike UNO there's actually a sense of progression and some skill in a TCG, even if all you do is play to earn more cards, the fact that you earn more cards build and/or upgrade decks creates that sense of progression. "Progression" in UNO is just how much torture you're forced to endure.
6:00 holy damn i commend you for making it through this already, i'm not even playing and it feels like i'm waiting a year for my turn 8:10 i used to play uno with the "standard" rules at my school and, while more entertaining i can't say i wasn't bitter when i ended up in a chain with like a combined draw 26. and maybe because of it i like playing by the old rules
There is another UNO game with a story mode - Uno Undercover for PC. This game is really weird and quirky. Would be fun to see you make a video on it as well.
I pray someday I make a video on such a niche topic. I've been buying import games for a few years, hoping to do a video next year in Japan (on transit) and getting a healthy amount of imports in person. Great video!
Ok you get 2 comments this video: FOURTY MINUTES. FOURTY MINUTES! That's longer than most, but not all, Ocotopath 1 late game bosses. That's the length I expect from a tactical jrpg like Fire Emblem or Devil Survivor. WHY. WHY?
I feel draw 2 stacking in a 1v1 setting is pointless and just has you hold off on using the card as long as possible. Meanwhile in a multi-person setting it can be used a bit more freely while also giving you a mean of defending yourself against the play.
I'd like to say that the giraffe is probably supposed to litterally be the number 6. Kinda how the number 4 looks like a flag. 11:27 If you flip it upside down I guess?
people should know what uno is, it did come with their xbox after all... actually got very used to the house ruleset, was just in the prime age range for the glory days of Xbox 360 Uno. If theres a version of uno that exists where it automatically calls uno when you have one card i don't wanna hear it, it's wrong! these are sick versions of uno. all video game adaptations of board/card games should embrace the medium
i remember years ago I had an idea for an Uno anime in the same vain as Yu-Gi-Oh, with it being over-the-top, dramatic, and goofy as hell. glad to think that someone had the idea before me
