I had a problem with a coworker once that was soo bad that one of the owners told the both of us "you two have to figure this out, or your both fired." A week later my coworker said that he was going to dig my grave for me. So knowing that I'm walking a thin line in this conflict, I did what any self respecting person would do. I found a shovel gave it to him and said get to work. I was unaware that the owner of the company saw the whole display of us "figuring it out." So when he called me later that day to his office I was nervous that my coworker went to him to rat me out, and sure enough he did. The owner then asked me my side of events, after explaining my side I was fully ready for the bad news, and that I'd have to look for a new job. I was surprised when the owner smirked at me and said forget about it, get back to work your problem will be fired by the end of the week. Moral of the story, not everybody can work together, out perform your problem, be a strong asset to the company, be invaluable and your conflict will get worked out.

Great advice, Patrick!!! I make it a habit that whenever I present to my boss a problem (job-related), I have at least three solutions/paths forward for him to choose from. This shows that I researched the issue thoroughly for the best possible outcome and that I respect his time because he hired me to be a thinker/problem-solver/figurative firefighter, not an office drone. It also prevents friction if the boss provides a solution I don’t like because I didn’t think it through or provide input.

It’s truly more than an idea; its an entire belief system. Make sure you’ve got the base/foundation with your kids and the boundaries, etc, before you do this. It’s a continual training up, not a one-time solution! :) I definitely understand the rambunctiousness of boys; mine are 19 and 20 now! Have an awesome day, and I know this is a cliche, but truly - enjoy the journey, it’s short!!

Good leadership advice but can’t say the same as parenting advice. The reason his example worked for his kids is because the kids have a good life of no financial struggles. They have everything at home. The average Family anywhere in the world doesn’t have the quality of life his kids have. Most kids in poor communities would not care less where you send them. They would probably challenge you if you threatened them with sending them away. It would just mean that their father didn’t care to send them away. Kids that have nothing to lose will not care about threats like that.

I know the lesson is supposed to be about reducing conflicts in the workplace, but some threats such as boarding school in a dysfunctional home or dysfunctional workplace is never going to work. You have to be sure that your company culture or your family values are productive functional and that everybody is held accountable even the boss.
@Mrs.LadeyBug
@Mrs.LadeyBug 2 года назад
This is absolutely true, in a family setting. If the kids are neglected or have legitimate fear of abandonment, or an unstable environment for any number of reasons, this conversation would not have ended in a healthy way. Mr. PBD’s relationship with his kids was clearly already open, loving, healthy, with proper boundaries and respect before this conversation took place. It’s very cool.

@@Mrs.LadeyBug I’ve had friends that have come from prominent and pretentious backgrounds but their parents didn’t want the responsibility of paying attention or loving their children in a functioning manner, but chose instead to send them to Christian boarding schools where it operated as an indoctrination camp and those particular children were abused by the staff. Needless to say their abuse went unrecognized and disregarded by their parents. It created a rift in the generational timeline and my friend eventually decided not to grant his parents with grandchildren…the lineage of that family ends with him. Every is held accountable whether they like it or not, our children are the future.
