In this Episode we take a break from the Amiga 4000 madness and turn our attention to the humble Amiga 500 Revision 3 Motherboard that required an unscheduled CPU socket replacement due to some corrosion that was discovered when attempting to make another video reviewing the Romulus ROM Switcher. This video is a Tutorial on how to replace thorough-hole DIP Sockets or any other components of this nature. Have fun!

Even though I mentioned "68 Pins" way too many times throughout the Video, the Motorola 68000 has 64 Pins, not 68... silly me 😅

I've not seen the mirofibre wipe before. Nice and makes sense.

I got this idea from Noel's Retro Lab a few years back. He has an excellent RU-vid channel, covering repairs of many Computer models. I am even a patron of his channel :) It's worth checking out: noelsretrolab.com/

Very good video. I have an Amiga 3000 with battery damage to the Denise socket and will do as you’ve shown. Thank you!

Thank you 😃Once you have done this a few times, it becomes pretty straight forward.

Would you mind giving the link to the socket you bought or giving the part number?

I bought mine from eBay Here are some links:. Machined: www.ebay.com/itm/255503607686?hash=item3b7d33a786:g:vvoAAOSw32hiZIAQ&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwNpSQoT2wEC5waButq1MUxbMFaFxOBFO%2BthKNOfispOWTvAStxChNcJIBBZv7%2BlYBuZ6QYMEeoL8cttldUIUyk8I%2FzJqRsRW2%2B822CPXRs90GMIfxngNfWMg9UNNZmHhwDakN%2BXeultURnpEuCFDw1w0pYEhXY%2Bw7iMue1%2BdwubqNTblildmBCSrT7ZqGhlafr0nnd8a05XP0ubkAwFaL8x6GqTNFmvRw1O8d4TmHJujpgzqwvFTcHhvjHWQAyQRjg%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR9y0gPCHYw Dual Wipe: www.ebay.com/itm/155646804452?hash=item243d45c1e4:g:M9IAAOSwVzBkpD5g&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwC5Ar9vv5iSlBljXF%2FPmSdzhBsiRYMk5qUavmzXshYh1CCmpyS1aXqKXoDLHtA6lF6bS4wmfB3SDOII9llFP%2F8Z7DWpo9gL5wxYjmap9sRKv0xJco2YIHd4SFWd%2BYqIOKEPDzkpYFsGXiztrUM3P2QRK%2FO78UpMGtcNKlI4UVOu8M%2BwscAIoIJUeN4VCuvq8odlN%2Fbh5GPLHWbVSZtvh4CDa2%2BxlQ4Pb0bs2H3PLdkVRkriLZVuLbWDYKuKb6uQ9hg%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR9y0gPCHYw Digikey and Mosuer will have these as well. Depending on your intended use, I prefer Dual Wipe Sockets for the Chips only. Machined Sockets (round holes), are ideal for Add-in cards that plug into the socket since they usually have round pins. Either are fine but I find using Machine Sockets slightly round the pins of the CPU, making re-insertion into the CPU socket not as secure as the first insertion. As always, this is a personal decision depending on your personal preference :)
