I am a new subscriber to your channel. I love the fact that you regularly update your channel and keep it fresh. Your sewing room organization has proven to be an inspiration. I have a smaller basement space but have maximized the space by giving away a lot of fabrics/patterns that I did not need. I got a dream box and an Ikea 6 drawer bureau to hold the remaining patterns and fabrics. I found out recently that the bottom of the drawers were dropping due to the weight of the fabrics and patterns so that solution did not work so I bought the ELFA system(3 10 racks with 3 wide bins and 1 narrow bin). What a difference! I don't know why I did not think of it before since I have 2 closet systems from ELFA that I bought for our bedroom when we moved into our home 14 yrs ago. I am going to glue the bottom of the bureau drawers back with Gorilla Glue and repurpose it for our family room space. I am so happy that your Mom's surgery went well. Sending prayers! Looking forward to your new content!

Isn't the Efla stuff amazing? We used it for our closet that we redid earlier this year as well. I LOVE that system! Welcome to the channel!

I bought the projector you had on a recent video, the Acrojoy 1080P. In addition to being on sale there was a coupon for $30 off making it a deal at $69. I will be very interested to see how you use this as your ceiling appears to be low. I understand this channel will not be a “projector” channel, but hope to see this as another tool in the arsenal! Thanks for all your information.
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery Год назад
I'm anxious to see how this projector goes as well. I may have to move my cutting table around a bit, but I'll be better able to see and use the space when the wall gets put up. I will definitely be sharing the process as another tool in my arsenal!
@debe8890
@debe8890 Год назад
The filming (& editing?) room sounds wonderful. I had a thought, while the crew is there putting up a wall to your new space you might give some thought (if you haven’t already) to having a door cut in between the two rooms, (May be where the steamer is?) I think it would be handy and more convenient if you need to go between the two rooms often. So glad your mom’s surgery went well and I hope she has a speedy recovery.
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery Год назад
I had thought about an opening between the two spaces. Unfortunately, the ceiling between the two rooms is really low (duct work and plumbing is inside of it) and is too low for a door. I could do just an opening, though. I'm mulling that over a bit more!

This is sooooo exciting! Your revitalized space looks like it will work much better for you and the new space is going to be awesome when completed! Would love to see it as it progresses. When your “handyman” moves your iron have him drill holes near the back of your sewing tables for the cords to your pedals. They won’t be in the way then. Trust me they are long enough 😊. Love watching your Vlogmas ❤ Continuing prayers for your Mom, I’m glad her surgery went well. 🙏

Next, that top is definitely your color, wow, it looks beautiful on you and you hair color & lipstick too.and lastly, how exciting for you to get the other room. It sounds like your business is really taking off. Curious about your industrial machine, will you have another machine in the studio or moving that one? I’m so excited for you. Please keep us in the loop with progress pics. Take care.

I’m so happy to hear your moms surgery went well. Your new space is great. I have mostly antique furniture for storage but yet use two plastic folding tables for my cutting table and two of my machines. I took them away from my dad when they were moving to a gorgeous new apartment in the assisted living facility. He wanted to use them in place of actual furniture. Yeah, I love that old man but he is a tad strange. Now, I find myself a bit sentimental about the stupid plastic tables. I also love your furry assistant. I look forward to seeing her.

We are both continuing to pray for your mother and the rest of the family. Take it easy, and don't stress yourself out!! doctor's orders! :+) How is Joyce's husband doing?? Did they have children and grands to comfort him and keep him company?? I still pray for him. Love the new room, and upcoming space for your recording studio!! How nice your son is so generous! Hard to believe they are going to be driving!! I cannot believe our youngest grandson is going to be 20! Where does time go, huh??!! Gidget looked dismayed that you disturbed her sleep! LOL! How old is she now? It's so nice you have so much room for your job and hobby! I have everything cramped into a bedroom-at least it has a walk in closet so I can hang some of the fabrics, etc.. You take care and don't overdo. I did order that sweater pattern that was on sale-looks like a quick make! You have a great weekend!
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery Год назад
Thank you so much for the continued prayers! Joyce does have 3 children (2 of which live close by), 9 grandchildren, and even 3 great-grandchildren. Her husband does have all of that family surrounding him, which I am sure is a comfort! I am so excited about the new filming room. I think this is really going to help my work flow and be great for some exciting things happening in 2023!

I want to work on getting something to organize my mess under my all purpose table. I do patterns, cut patterns & fabric, alter patterns . It’s just one of those foldable tables from Walmart with adjustable leg height. I also want to make a large board into a ironing pad surface to help iron large pieces of fabric & quicken up the process. Did you use a special type of batting?

I'm glad you made it back safely! To answer your question about the pressing station, I just used cotton quilting batting!

Whitney, your space is fantastic. I’d love to have a basement, but living in South Louisiana, not happening! So happy your Mom’s surgery was a success.

Carol Mendoza: I live in Northeast Louisiana and basements aren't used up here either. I was given a 8' x16' metal storage.building. Wasn't really what I wanted neither size nor having to go outside to use but sometimes you have to make do and something better than next to nothing. My wonderful talented hubby is in process of insulating, wiring and finishing inside so I can use. Now up to me to figure out how to make it work for my 4machines, 2 sergers, accessories, notions, patterns, fabric, thread, books, and furniture. I am gathering ideas for storage, and other ideas. I enjoyed this video.

You are so right! Basements are really common in my neck of the woods, but that wouldn't be the case for your area!

Love the new expanded space. And those of us that have a sewing room/studio truly cherish the extra space. 6” doesn’t sound like much but it truly is…. Where is your projector going to be installed? I now own 2 of them and love them. Especially when we have company w/kids. Huge screen and my hubby can see the screen as well. I need to find a projector class so I will know where to install my projector. I have the ceiling mount for either one of them. So, over my huge cutting table, or my huge ironing station, or over the dining table and adjust to show movies on the big screen. Multipurpose, right?

Awesome news! So excited for you and your new space, would it throw things off much if you were to add the wall on the right side of the door so you can go from one room into the other without leaving that space? It would also give you a few feet more to play with ! ;)
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery Год назад
I have been mulling that over. I can't put a door there because the ceiling is too low in that area, but I could just do an opening.

how lovely that you’re going to have a studio! now you’ll actually be able to fit a clothing rack and the mannequins into a wide shot. do you plan to paint the walls? i think a fresh lick of paint would really help to brighten the space up, and i can see a feature wall in something like a muted dark teal really helping to make your clothing and shelves pop

Yes. As soon as the wall gets built, we'll paint the entire room. I was thinking of doing it in white, but I may change my mind. It will definitely be something brighter than what's currently there!

So many changes, it is fun to see your excitement. Glad you changed the sew a long, I was trying to figure out how to stuff it into Christmas. Which leads me to the question of fabric. What exactly is Ponte? When I asked at our local fabric store ( in SW Michigan we have Fields fabrics) they said " the polyester is over there" , I didn't know polyester was Ponte. Can you give a closer description? They didn't know and the fabric isn''t labeled that way, only contents. I didn't want to order online but I just might. The twins are getting so grown-up. Blessed Christmas to you and yours.
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery Год назад
Ponte is a stable knit fabric. While it can come as a polyester, I don't recommend that. I like a nice rayon/nylon/spandex blend, but I will use some with a bit of poly in there as long as the rayon (or viscose) content is higher. These are the two I recommend: stylemakerfabrics.com/products/arietta-ponte-de-roma-solid-burgundy or tidd.ly/3UIeKTP

The sewing studio looks great! I have 2 questions for you. Can you point me at a video or resource for how to fold your fabric? And, do you keep your fabrics in plastic? I also have the Elfa wire drawers for my fabrics, and I worry about things getting dusty.

Thank you! I have a video here showing how I fold my fabric: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NPZNY6MSciE.html . I don't keep my stuff in plastic. I haven't noticed anything getting dusty . . .

Hello Whitney, I don't expect you to remember the last message I posted, but it was regarding changing patterns to be able to make clothes that fit me. Ones that are comfortable, and that I hopefully will not be constantly pulling at the sleeves. Because I don't tolerate things to close to my armpits. So today's feature Friday, I always stop the video and jump over to Love Notions to check out the pattern. Well obviously, I see it from you first. But my first instinct was to just pass this one by. The reason being that the armpits are way too close, but then my fix it brain kicked on. And I said to myself, well now don't be silly, you can just adjust this pattern to fit your pits lol. This is the style of clothing that I would avoid like the plague. And so sorry, how rude of me not to mention your sewing room first. My first thought was, oh I wish I had that much room. Currently I am renting just due to life changing plans without my consent LOL. And with the current housing market in Idaho, I am, (sounds terrible) but I am waiting for the market to crash. I eventually plan on a very roomy sewing /craft room. I think I would like a long arm quilting machine. This may need a room all to itself, not sure I want to invest that much money yet. I love all of your sewing tables. A functional sewing room, is so key in having a smooth flow. So you have a catalog system for patterns that you currently have already printed out. Is that how that works? Like the library, I go to the catalog look up the pattern and then you have a second area where you keep the printed patterns. Am I missing something understanding that correctly? Unfortunately I am not able to do Ikea, believe it or not, the shipping costs are more than the item itself. And the kicker is that I am like a days drive away from the Ikea store. Maybe I will rent a truck and just go pick it up myself. I have an adult son who would be more than happy to help out his mom. One of my challenges is that I have enough yarn and fabric to fill a room. Yes I have an addiction to those things. It could be a worse addiction, say smoking, drinking or drugs, so I'm ok with having way more materials than I can use in my life left. Hopefully one of my grandchildren will be overjoyed to get it when I'm ready to move on. Or the entire family will be cussing me out. Either way I win. Lol Thanks for the great tour of your creative space. Have a great day and have a great day. I didn't proof read this, so if there is some wacky spelling MY BAD. Tracy from Idaho

I do remember your other post! You are understanding my patterns correctly. I keep the envelops in the binders so I can easily flip through them and then the actual patterns and instructions are in manilla envelops in a filing cabinet in the other room. They are organized by pattern company and pattern number so they are easy to find! I totally get what you mean about IKEA. I am lucky to live only 25 minutes from one so it's easy for me to go and pick up items myself. Their shipping is very costly!
