Thanks. I looked it up. Very interesting how Francis S. Key used an old bar shanty that originally commemorated a greek poet, the myrtle flower of the goddess Venus/Astarte & the drinking of white wine.

We Americans celebrate our independence from Britain by singing an anthem set to the tune of a British song. I love irony.

Lol. Only the ones who slept through history class. Personally, I love that Francis Scott Key put the lyrics to our anthem to this tune. Was a savage move. Truly rebellious. A very American thing to do. Lol. 😂

Nice song, difficult to understand the lyrics, but when you learn the history of what the lyrics describe that's when it gives you the chills to know of the bravery of these men that with so little resources and training you realize the courage that they had to fight the giant oppressor. @@katdelrio5316

What a spin, you must have tied your self in knots trying to make sense of that. The use of the tone seems low and cheap to me. An embarassibg lazy effort. An unoriginal infatuation of everything British @katdelrio5316

Other national anthems had origins from other countries, too. Examples: Het Wilhelmus - the oldest national anthem in the world - the anthem of the Netherlands - was a French military marching song; Hatikvah - from Israel - was a Romanian folk song but an Italian dance before that.

Oh you referring to the map and the flag? It's correct. Thats the flag of Great Britain. It was just England and Scotland (Wales was part of England). The flag was just a combination of England and Scotland's flag no diagonal cross. Act of Union was 1801. This is 1700s. None of Ireland was in the UK. We hadn't JOINED the chat yet.

It just amazes me that even though we declared our independence from England, the United States has had a lot of English influences. We took the tune of this song and wrote the Star Spangled Banner, and we took the tune of God Save the Queen and wrote My Country Tis Of Thee. I think it was just an epic kick in the butt to England.

Not really a kick in the butt America is culturally very British so it's probably because many Americans were very familiar with songs like this and they just use them for their anthems
