This is the latest video of the tire wear experience I have with the Michelin Anakee 3 Adventure Touring tires. This set had 16,003 miles on the them when I had new ones installed on 11/7/14.
I have 11,000 on my '09 GS since late Oct. I have TONS of tread left compared to these! Thank you, wont need a new pair for a while now! It's my first GS and the first set of tires I've put on. The front is making me a little worried, but the rear is looking great seeing how much you've gotten out of yours. Thanks again!
This helped me a lot. I just bought a GS700, and am learning about everything to do with adventure riding. Now I know these are high mileage tyres, I know I do not need to replace them right now. Had no idea what 'worn' looked like on these. Thanks.
That center wear looks typical of over inflation. Ive got 23,000 km on my anakee 3 on a GS 800 and still have about 5k or 6k more km to go or more. They have minor cupping and a tiny notice of flat spotting, but this tire in the video has crazy flat spot.
I have similar miles and wear with these tires on my R1200 GS. After a couple of thousand mile highway trip last spring my rear was also flatten on the face. I have ran these tires through a lot of gravel, sand, and mud trails and have no complaints. Would buy them again.
This tire is worn only at its center and it is not even touched at the edges. My tires were always worn totally different way although I also ride adventure bike :D You would never notice the direction arrows or Michelin logo on my tires. They were left somewhere on the road :D More turns - your tires will wear more regularly ;)
I got more than 24000 Km on them on tiger 800xc. still about half a millimeter left to wear bars. So I would probably get around 1500 kms left on the rear. The front is good for about 3 or 4 thousand kms left. Still amazing grip on dry and wet pavement. offroad grip diminished significantly but still better than the OEM pirellis at 50% wear that I had on my bike. Got the the new set anyway. great great tire. highly recommend.
+GearJammer78Ford so you reccomend anakee 3 ? for the moment i have on the pilot road 4 with 15000 kmh and they are perfect on wet/dry. no for off ride.
+John Fassidakis for my riding which includes unpaved roads many times I would recommend it if you're also on the highway a lot. I have never used Street only tires on my v-strom.
Curious difference between the tread patterns on the 2's vs the 3's Tim. Do you have any comments likes dislikes between the the two tread patterns? I use the Anakee 3's. Cheers dave
+Steve Kennett I see two possible reasons: 1) wrong speed rating and 2) wrong pressure. I once rode on the pressure half a bar lower than recommended and wore 80% or the tire in less 1000km. since then I always have a proper tire pressure gauge and a small compressor on me on all trips of over 300kms.
The front tyre sucks. Noisy and it lets go unexpectedly, seemingly for no reason. Never had this issue with any other front tyre ever. Got 9000km. The rear is innocuous. Does it's thing with no surprises. Got 8000km. The center wears quickly. Marginally passable on dirt roads with the front wandering all over the place and quite disconcerting with little confidence as to what it is going to do. Don't like Michelin tyres and the Anakee III add to my dislike. Will not be fitting these again.
