In the novelization, obi wan was too rusty and vader was being extremely careful. Think about it, you'd be careful against the guy who cooked you well done and the threw rocks at you while you had an asthma attack

Well that is not true Obi wan knew he was too weak to beat Vader in ANH this is said in other source material and it's a stupid ideal that he let himself die to guide Luke better he could have done that if he was alive also Luke needed guidance throughout the 3 years between ANH and ESB if he was alive he could have trained him people who think that he let himself die don't understand how stupid that is.
Anakin only lost on Mustafar for his arrogance and it was stated he literally would have won if he didnt want to prove himself to obi wan by jumping on a cliff. Anakin while sparing with obi wan disarmed obi wan and said it was over, then obi wan showed his arrogant side and kept fighting and threw anakins saber away. To be fair in AOTC Anakin was already a better duellist Kenobi even says if he spent a bit more time training with his saber he would already rival Yoda in saber combat and we see that Anakin in AOTC can hold his own longer against Dooku than Obi wan and in the Kenobi show we do see Anakin overpower obi wan with a Lightsaber int the flashback but again his emotions cloud his judgement so he lost
Lucas said that Vader was never stronger than Obi-Wan. He aleways wanted to prove himself as a Jedi, and in ANH Obi-Wan won psychologically, as he said. Every duel/sparring Obi-Wan won. He is a better duelist and his power was the same as Anakin's as seen in ROTS. He had more force abilities. On Mustafar people tend to say Anakin lost because he was conflicted, but he just murdered hundreds of children and choked his wife while Obi-Wan was literally in tears during the duel. First no Lucas has stated that Anakin was more powerful and stronger than Obi wan but let his emotions get the better of him and lost. Yes obi wan won the Psychological battle but he was too weak to win against Vader. Every duel until ANH yes Kenobi did win but we know that even in AOTC Anakin was barely behind Obi wan and ultimately if he got his emotions in check would have surpassed him at that time. He was not the better duellist but had better BIQ through out the fight Anakin is always pushing forward all Kenobi can do is defend it is only when he gets the high ground that he wins with out it he would have lost he knew Anakin so well and that was what allowed him to win he knew he would try to kill him like he did to maul.(until TCW) Anakin was conflicted he was crying before Padme showed up at his actions and at the death of himself he was already unbalanced before the confrontation the dark side was growing and his negative emotions where coming to the surface twisting his mind and he did not have control of his power and did not know how to use it properly then padme shows up with Obi wan and he thinks that she brought him here to kill him, his world shatters in his head all the atrocity's he committed was for her and now she had betrayed him we see further confliction because he does not have his sith eyes while fighting Kenobi and yes Obi wan was not having the best time but like he said he would do what he must and was ready to kill Anakin it was only after the fight was won that he broke down
Skill and experience in Episode 4 should go to Vader. Obi Wan is an old man doing basically nothing. Vader has been in constant fights staying active, while Obi Wan lived the hermit life. You can see this in Kenobi, the short time he stopped he became weaker, imagine after all these years into Episode 4.
