Loco-Z it looks nice but when you really analyze it you can see why it gets criticism.. there’s too many spinning and unnecessary moves that would get you killed if you tried that in real life. I mean count the amount of times they turn their backs on each other while fighting. That’s a big no no

"I will do what I must" is delivered absolutely perfectly, even Sir Alec Guinness himself couldn't have spoken it better. It's THE line that shows who the Jedi truly are. Obi-Wan is prepared to kill his Padawan to save the galaxy
It really is not the best fight in cinema history lol. It's great spectale because of the stunning skill on display from the actors in terms of choreography yes but the amount of turning their backs on eachother and unnecessary light saber moves make it ridiculous in terms of realism. If they're trying to kill eachother why the fuck are they being so reckless and showing off, and also blatantly not exploiting clear openings to land a strike on eachother. It's pretty to look at but if Jedi were real and fought like this the fights would be over in seconds.

0:30 This moment right here is absolutely beautiful. That look on Anakins face, he's just realized what he's done, who he just attacked. But then in a split second, like a scared and confused child with no way out, he turns the blame on the nearest person and focuses his rage on them. On Obi Wan. Anakin would never be able to accept that he could ever attack his beloved Padme. So Darth Vader made it all Obi Wans fault.

So rather than acknowledge what he just did, the easier answer for someone in his fragile mindset was just to believe that the accursed Jedi turned her against him.

It's interesting that dark side Anakin still hesitates to fight Obi-Wan, he says "don't make me kill you..." as if he is being forced into the fight by Obi-Wan (and he's indicating that there is a chance they don't have to fight). Anakin has always sought to be like Obi-Wan and even now he seeks his approval, "If you're not with me..." he says. Since he cannot gain approval or understanding (ie empathy), he feels forced to erase Obi-Wan so that he won't feel judged any longer. In the ep 3 Novelization, he directly offers Obi-Wan a chance to walk away. He tells him to leave and find a cave somewhere to meditate (paraphrase). In both the novel and the film, it's interesting to observe that Obi-Wan drew his weapon first and escalated this fight. If Obi-Wan would have taken a different approach here, it's possible Anakin could have been saved now. But instead they talk past each other never directly addressing what is happening between them. Unfortunately, Obi-Wan waits until the fight is over to tell Anakin that he loves him, when he should have told him at the beginning. By arguing with an insecure and fallen Anakin, Obi-Wan causes him to be further entrenched in his position. I blame Yoda and the jedi teachings for this, as Yoda told Obi-Wan that Anakin is already gone - which we know to be false. I wonder what might have been different if Yoda had sent Obi-Wan to save his bestfriend and brother, Anakin instead of to destroy their enemy, Vader. What Darth Vader needs the most is for someone to believe in Anakin again, which Luke does.
The movie doesn’t emphasize enough how significant the difference is in Yoda’s approach to Anakin vs Luke’s is. Yoda sends Obi-Wan to assassinate Anakin, Luke does everything he can to redeem him.
Agreed, Kenobi went there ready to kill him. Padme’s last words were “there’s still good in him” which is literally the theme of Return of the Jedi. Luke feeling that same good that his mother did and finally being able to turn him back. Fuck I love Star Wars
Well obi could have spoke up and stated how he followed her and she had nothing to do with it. Instead he sat back like the director of a lifetime movie and said nothing. He basically uses her as bait.

@@josebro352 usually Jedi has blue, green or purple (like Mace Windu) lightsabers and Sith a red one, but it is not a rule, like they mustn’t use a different color. For example, Obi-Wan once during a fight used a red lightsaber but he claimed that it is not his color :D
Anyone who said Hayden Christensen can’t act must have just completely forgotten about this entire ending act…. I cannot even begin to describe how well he depicted Anakin in this scene

I wouldn't say to the death yet. That's when Obi-Wan goes "then you are lost!" that he realizes the only way to stop Anakin is to kill him. See for the first part where he is going with his strikes. It's just to disarm Anakin and always on the defensive.
This scene is so heartbreaking, tbh. We're basically watching a fight to the death between an elder and younger brother. Neither side wants this fight, and yet neither can stop it.
1:04-1:32 the best part in Revenge of the Sith. I just love how Hayden says these lines with raw emotion. He did such a great job at portraying Anakin especially in Episode III when he becomes Darth Vader.

No.. its his form. Read the lore Anakin is one of the best and most agressive duelist of his time. Anakin best form is form 5(Jdem So) Obi wan best form is defense(form 3/soresu) Thats why obiwan is always moving backward but impenetrable defense from anakin agressive attack.

When he first replacr most of his body parts. He was dissappointing to darth sidious and until now he still is because he couldt reach his full potential. A lot of people complain that the prequel‘s have such bad writing in them, but I personally think this movie has some of the best writing in the entire saga. “I loved you Anakin! You were my brother!” 😭 so emotional!
Showing that Obi wan was a hypocrite because he knows he shouldn’t have those emotions either but rather have them under control, even his fear to kill Anakin is exactly why Yoda sent him to Mustafar

The powerlessness caused him to spiral, Yoda was right to send Obi-Wan
These guys worked so hard at this. The fact that they’re actually swinging those sticks they used to shoot the scenes here is awesome. They actually performed all of this stuff, no CGI needed just hard work (well, aside from the light saber CGI and the inhuman jumping lol). They clearly practiced a LOT.
@@domnoya4130 so, actually, there was a deleted side plot in this film that can still be found in the novelization where Palpatine basically plants the idea in Anakin’s head that Obi Wan and Padme might be having an affair. They’re not but some of that side plot can still be seen in the film as almost every scene between Anakin and Padme, Obi Wan comes up in conversation in some way. There’s even deleted dialogue from the moment Padme tells Anakin she’s pregnant where he explicitly asks her if there’s someone else because she’s acting so weird - even though she’s just nervous to tell him. It was definitely meant to be a running idea throughout the film at least in regards to Anakin’s mindset. So, I’d imagine his reaction to Obi Wan here was the culmination of a lot of things but that deleted side plot is probably why he very aggressively says, “You’re here with him” in this scene.
Always loved Hayden as Anakin, his performance in this scene is so good. The “you will try” line always gives me goosebumps. Honestly, the chemistry between him and Ewan just makes you forget this is fiction lol.
I use the line, "You have done that yourself" In so many conversations when I'm blamed for this or that. And then the "Your anger, arrogance, and lust for power have now twisted your mind into now you have become the very thing you swore to destroy or hate." Works so efficiently
I still remember going in to this movie and knowing it was going to end badly. I never expected it to be this heartbreaking, and this was the final nail in the coffin. Seeing Anakin try to kill his own wife and then his best friend and mentor was truly disheartening, and to me truly showed how far he had fallen to the Dark Side.
I was 11 when I first saw this movie in 2005 and Anakin got so delusional towards the end. The scene where he killed younglings was memorable to me as a kid.

The prequels take place in a time when the Jedi were in their prime. You basically see two of the best fighters of that period battle. That's why this will always be the best lightsaber duel in the entire saga!
If you think about it, it makes sense. Obi Wan and Anakin were two of the best, battle tested Jedi. Their skills were unmatched. Rey and Ben weren't properly trained. Well, Rey was trained by Luke and Leia in the end, but still, their fights should be sloppy because they're just not as good as Obi Wan and Anakin were.

The sound of the choir is a perfect representation of them using the force at 3:17. I’m certain John Williams was using that as an instrumentation of the force. What an absolute genius of a composer he is.
3:12 I see a lot of people complaining about this pointless spins, personally I found them very interesting. It is a moment where we can clearly see how Anakin was trained by Obi Wan, despite of Anakins agresive and agile style and Obi Wans deffensive and precise style, they do preserve a similar fighting style. I think the "spins" is a moment where they unconsciously are fighting in the same way, keeping their control of their lightsaber and expecting for the other one to attack.
Fun fact: Those spins weren't random. What they did is a thing in fencing known as a circle parry. It's when you circle your opponent to either block or hit. The best part about it is the fact that most circle parrys are performed when the opponents know each other extremely well and how they fight. In other words: The choreographers did their homework
For me it was the best part of the fight, I think at that point annakin and obi-wan are fighting the same, like the final attack and the force fight, they were equals at that time. This has always been my interpretation
I remember watching this movie as a teen, I was on the edge of my seat because I had never seen the original trilogy, so I didn't know what to expect. I remember the anxiety I felt thinking Obi-Wan may die. I'm actually glad I got to experience it that way, after this I saw the rest of the 6 films, the other 3 don't matter
Without a shred of doubt the best duel ever made. The emotion swells so much and they are still arguing with eachother even as they are speechless and their blades crash into one another. Beautiful
As much as i hate them , they barely had training and obi wan and anakin had way more training and experience and they where in their prime when they fought ( which makes even stupider that rey was the one to defeat palpatine)
This was one of the greatest lightsaber battles ever the intensity and emotion and seeing how they are so similar in fighting style which is understandable because obi wan trained him his whole life it's just perfect
@@majin8876 If Anakin didn't go down the path of the dark side he ultimately would have stayed with padme thus not breaking her heart. In trying to save her he joined the dark side and thus broke her heart.

When Kenobi says 'only a Sith deals in absolutes' you can see a daunting realisation on Kenobis face. I don't think anyone anywhere anyhow can pull that facial expression off as well as Ewan.

@@MariOmor1 It was also preceded by Obi-Wan actively trying to persuade Anakin to not continue down the path of the Dark Side. That is to say, Obi-Wan is not treating Anakin as an outright enemy in this moment and also not outright supporting what Anakin is doing. He is somewhere in the middle, avoiding both of these extremes. While Anakin declares that only those two extremes are possible and that he'll accept nothing else. Kenobi's statement is correct and accurate about the Sith, as this is a common tendency for the Sith to see anyone that does not outright support them entirely as something to be destroyed.
I don’t care what anyone says, this was the absolute peak of Star Wars. This scene was better than any fight scene in any of the original movies or in any of the ones that came after. This and Yoda’s fight with the emperor will never be surpassed in terms of lightsaber fight choreography. And save the “it’s not practical” BS for the nerds who care. When you were a kid in the early 2000s and you got a lightsaber toy, this was how you and your friends fought. If the fighting was supposed to be practical, everyone in the universe would use laser guns, rockets and traps like boba fett.

@@METALLICARULES11 The og trilogy was amazing. It's a classic, and TESB is my very VERY close second favorite, with ANH as my third, ROTJ and as my fourth. They were limited in their time, but that didn't stop Lucas and his crew. They busted their asses to give us a fantastic trilogy. AOTC is easily everyone's least favorite. TPM was good, but didn't feel like it fit in with the rest of the trilogy. The reason I like ROTS was my favorite was because it was a tragedy, and not just because of awesome-ass lightsaber duels. It had emotion in order 66 (helped by the clone wars) and the fall of the republic into the hands of the bad guy. Plus that opening scene with the battlefield was just satysfying. I'm not a visuals guy, though. TESB was my second because of the tention and trials seen in it. But yoda seemed kinda goofy, which was ubdertsandable because I could lose my grip on my sanity living on a bog planet eating soup for, like, 20 years. Great dialogue, amazing twists and pretty cool action. The OT will always be a classic, amazing, impressive trilogy. Sequels in my opinion are below terrible. But that is an opinion. My opinion.

I beg to differ. Star Wars dialogue has always been cheesy and not the best. It fits with the space opera theme. Prequels, original, and sequels aren’t great because of dialogue, but are good to great because of the imagination of the Star Wars saga itself. The purest form of Star Wars is by far the books comics,etc by select writers( all of it didn’t slap).
@@ominouspuppet4556 ot dialog is nowhere nearly as bad as prequel. Darth Vader's lines are cold, but sassy and funny. Cushing and Mcdiarmid also good lines. Ford and Fischer also have very funny banter. In the OT I might have to call Hamill the weakest link but even that's not bad.

I am here to die on this hill... I love this movie, the prequels are some of my all time favorite movies of all time, the writing and dialogue is perfect in this film, the fall of Anakin is one of the most heart breaking things in cinematic history, and lastly... The choreography in this fight has NEVER been out done since.
I Really liked this movie. Best of all the three prequels. But it still has some corny scenes and dialogue. "In my POV the Jedi are evil!" And the whole scene when Windu and Anakin faces Palpatine.
This is my favorite moment in cinema of all time. Obi Wan's talk with Anakin before their inevitable duel is just pure emotion from two actors that are more than passionate about this franchise. Fuck Hayden's haters. He is the perfect Anakin Skywalker.
This is the most depressing sequence of events in the entire Stat Wars saga. It gives me chills and immediately makes me sad even though I know every word and have seen it 100s of times.
I was 4 and a half years old when I saw it in theaters and I STILL remember the experience so well. I’m so glad that I got to see the last Lucas directed Star Wars movie in theaters. (Yes I know there’s the clone wars movie but I’m talking about the saga movies themselves)

It's so cool that Hayden Christiansen ACTUALLY went to a galaxy far far away and became the chosen one and restored balance to the force just for us. Under rated actor man.
That, and George retconned lightsabers entirely - at first they were supposed to be extremely heavy to hold, like a real sword, but gradually they realized it would be cooler if they were lightweight so you could do all of this stuff. I think Rebels pays homage to this really well in Kenobi v Maul, when Kenobi starts with his classic Prequels stance then drops into a standard Form III
This is the reason Obi Wan will always be my favorite character. He lost everything he cared about truly. He lost his love whom was killed in front of him by Maul. Then he saw the jedi order of which he loved and dedicated his life to get destroyed by the person whom he thought was his brother whom he loved dearly. After all of this he still stuck true to his Jedi religion never turning to the dark like Anakin
Blade-to-blade, Obi-Wan and Anakin were identical. After thousands of hours lightsaber sparring, they knew each other better than brothers, more intimately than lovers; they were the complementary halves of a single warrior.
Not really identical.. Anakin had the advantage from the very beginning. He was aggressive and Obiwan stayed on the defense without any opportunity to counterattack. At one point he was choking Obiwan. A significant advantage he threw away with a mistake.

He was quickly disposed of by Count Dooku twice. But Count Dooku was defeated by Anakin in the second duel. But Obi Wan managed to use the environment to his advantage to offset the odds, partly also thanks to Anakin's arrogance.
@@howardlam6181 anakin wasn't the stronger one, at least in this instance, the reason obi wan was able to last nearly 10 minute fighting him and win is because his extreme defense countered anakins offense, and I forget where I read it but obi wan is at his most powerful here because he had only one single intention which was to kill anakin, and intention makes a light side user stronger

3:17 This right here made my 7 year-old self know that this was going to be my favorite movie for the rest of my life. I remember being in theaters and my family and I thought that was the coolest thing ever.
The story about how Anakin turned against the jedi order reminds me of the story about Fenrir in norse mythology. The unjust treatment and the fabrication of your own enemy.
