@@IronMan-tk8uc Especially in Vader's case. The man's loaded! And if credit payment isn't a thing, I'm sure that his castle and necessities are free due to his position.
Yeah isn’t being unsettling (for Vader included) the entire point of his palace? It’s like showing up to a party naked and asking why everyone is acting weird.
@@dylancolon5871 vader knows how scary he is. he has to be for his status to be so high. everybody in the empire hates him but cant do anything about it because he's so terrifying and powerful asking him about why he's unsettled is vader messing with him, showing that he can see right through him
it's not vader's call if you have seen a new hope vader has less power politically than tarkin. leia pretty much summed up their dynamic in ANH vader is the enforcer and tarkin the boss. what krennic wanted was vader to tell the emperor directly that he should be in charged of the death star. vader calls him director from the start before even hearing krennic's plea
Where shall I build my new home? I know! Where the love of my life died, my father figure tried to kill me, and where I was dismembered and burned in horrific agony. That sounds lovely.
I love Krennic’s reaction to Vader when just starts walking towards him at 2:17. It’s like he suddenly realized how easy it would be for Vader to kill him at any moment.
Vader being able to kill him isn't what scares him, any Stormtrooper with a gun can do that anytime. What scares people is that this weirdo with his space magic can kill anyone without any fear of punishment, because for some reason nobody in the empire fully understands why the Emperor puts this guy above most of his military leaders and basically gave him free reign within the forces. They don't understand the why and wherefroms of Vader. That is what scares them. They understand the concept of climbing the ranks for power, but nobody ever saw Vader do that. One day there was this giant armored warlock who seemingly could order entire armies on a whim and with the full trust of the Emperor. And that's just fuckng weird from an outside perspective.
I love Krennic in general. He’s such a hustler. Everything about him screams he hasn’t had a moment’s privilege and scrapped his way up. If he’d been born Skywalker he’d probably have Thanos’d the galaxy
Man Ben killed his role as Krennic. I loved his acting so much. So much passion. Makes me feel so much different and happy when people take pride in their roles in Star Wars.
His character is a complete scumbag but the passion of the performance and the good script makes you appreciate him as someone who TRULY worked hard for the Empire and believed in it.
@@blankpage9277 Here's an idea for a new star wars series. One of general grievous children (he had 20 children at his prime) lives as a bounty hunter. They're wearing a kaleesh mask. And they're using a rifle with green blaster fire, since green is the most expensive color for blasters.
@@teod1298 My friend, if that movie or an old republic movie or even a trilogy ever comes out, I'd be sold. As long as I get to see at least 1 or 2 decent lightsaber fights in a movie I'm usually alright. I used to get really into legends content but as you can imagine the new stuff is just very different. I try to just see it for what it is and try to enjoy it but at the end of the day I like my legends lore more. That doesn't mean I dont like to go see a star wars movie in theaters even if its gonna suck though haha. Good stuff
The problem with this best quote is that Vader actually never made any puns in Original Trilogy. It looks like Vader rewatched all films with Arnold Schwarzenegger before meeting Krennik. It's very out of character for such brief cameo.
@@Dr.Harvey even the "i find your lack of faith disturbind", why telling someone you are choking that? to be funny, that's the only point, he is going to kill him (he'll stop because tarkin asked but he was going to kill) so why wasting his breath, using his voice modulator, suffering to use his destroyed vocal organs, to speak to someone dying? because vader is a funny guy!
Spyder Man yes he did do a great job. Be for me I’d prefer James Earl Jones. Because when I 1st saw A New Hope James Earl Jones’s voice as Darth Vader drew me in.
Even without Vader, the movie is still amazing and epic! It was one hell of a way to begin one trilogy while ending another! As much as I love Revenge of the Sith, the ending felt kind of rushed. Here, it blends everything together seamlessly.
Cnw#8701 rogue one was rubbish apart from Vader. You already knew the plot and they steal the Death Star plans. And that all the characters would die cause they’re not in episode 4
@@Stephen05777 I second that. I hated the character development and how the story got told in this movie. For all the complaints and hatred people have for the prequel trilogy, at least those movies had the involvement of George Lucas instead of some suit at Disney
One of the coolest things about vaders castle is the look of the lack of security there’s no star destroyers or tie fighter patrols it’s just a lone building because 1. Vader is the security he doesn’t need anything else and 2. No one in the galaxy wants to attack him because of how terrifying he is
I doubt most galactic citizens or even Imperial military staff are even aware of the castle to begin with. Vader at this point in his life does have a quasi-death wish too, so I’d imagine the lack of security doubles as an open challenge to any Jedi remnants or Rebel forces brave enough to try and kill him.
"Its ability to create problems has certainly been confirmed." Really underrated line - quite beautifully flows into Vader's visible contempt for the Death Star as soon as he arrives on it in A New Hope. I always liked to interpret his disdain for the whole Death Star concept as an indication of his disagreement with Palpatine ruling as emperor and the methods Palpatine had come to rely on. Seeding Vader taking a chance with Luke - which if you think about it, was a really big risk for him! - and offering to go in with Luke on overthrowing the emperor. Vader, in his own way, still craved justice. Not revenge and power for the sake of power, like Palpatine did. We all joke about how Vader keeps murdering underlings and giving the job to the next person in line, but in a weird way it was another reflection of his twisted desire for truth and justice. He was probably oddly sincere in hoping the new person promoted to a position would prove competent and succeed where others had justly failed. Probably would have respected them and happily rewarded them, if they had. One can believe that Vader was totally honest in wishing to end wanton destruction and bring order to the galaxy. The Death Star, while a tool he would ruthlessly use, probably did actually disgust him in its flagrantly heavy handed strategy.
Good point and a big reason why he employed Bounty Hunters like Boba Fett while the Empire looked down on them. It's because Vader respected people who could get the job done. He hated his incompetent Imperial colleagues with a deep passion.
I agree; but Vader HATED the Death Star and everything it represented: technology eclipsing the Dark Side of the Force and laziness/weakness. I'm not sure he would have even finished the 2nd Death Star after the death of Sidious; Vader preferred an honest, old-fashioned military assault of troopers + a Force user in command, everyone getting stronger/sharper in the process.
Vader had no say over the Death Star, its construction was started when he was just a Padawan in Episode II, we see Dooku with the hologram of it. So it was always a goal of the Emperor.
If Vader had ever decided to design weapon systems, they would be frighteningly efficient, perfectly precise, masterfully elegant, and beyond overwhelming in power. They would be nimble, agile and not some overblown mega-weapon, but a precision instrument of war. It would have reflected that dark being he had become while also showing you could be effective without going overboard.
To those who think the "choke on your aspirations" line is too silly for Vader, I would remind you of the line "Apology accepted, Captain Needa". Vader DOES have a sense of humor at times. A terribly cruel and sardonic one, but a sense of humor, nonetheless.
I love how angry Vader gets when Krennic asks for an audience with the Emperor 2:13; he's so tired of people not understanding that the Sith are above all, and cannot be bothered with audiences, technicalities, and mundane stuff. Vader only tolerated Tarkin.
Well, he’s got to find joy in something. He’s an asthmatic cyborg that lives on a lava planet and has to deal with incompetent subordinates left and right. If he can sardonically put a stuffed shirt like Krennic in his place, he’ll do it.
I love the slight twitch that Krennic gives when the Force kicks in. This is probably the most underrated Star Wars movie. The best theatrical release since Revenge of the Sith, no doubt.
Perhaps this is his way of dealing with the immense guilt of having murdered the younglings as a form of catharsis as he pictures them laughing along with his poor dad jokes.
Orson Krenic has to be one of my favourite imperials just purely from this scene and the absolute balls he has to talk to Vader the way he does. He’s not there to be praised he’s being warned by management and while there he lightly complains about senior management and then talks back to management and he survives. Fair play Director
I LOVE the "you seem unsettled" line, as though Vader didn't specifically design that palace to be as intimidating as possible for guests, and as though "Visiting Lord Vader's fortress" isn't one of the most terrifying things an Imperial officer can imagine. Good old Anakin loves his jokes.
Vader didn’t design the castle. …The ghost of a different Sith Lord possessing an Imperial architect via his original helmet designed it. Vader still had to build the thing.
I think Tumblr put it best: *huxleypearl* *Darth Vader, after casting a Babadook shadow and entering a room with his cape billowing thanks to his Imperial Fog Machine, on a planet that is literally comprised of lava and the pain of his memories, in his Wake Me Up Inside (Can't Wake Up) palace, steps onto a platform that is likely being suspended by the sheer power of his anger:* you seem unsettled *Director Krennic, who has never even stepped inside a Hot Topic:* ...no...
A single scene alone made a theater of people flip absolute shit when he appeared on screen. Thats the kind of presence and power Vader will always have, he is and forever will be one of the most classic and timeless villain characters in the entire world.
That's the most amazing thing about him. You can have 100 people dress up as star wars characters and people not know who they are..but you can ask anyone that has never even watched a star wars movie and they STILL know exactly who Darth Vader is..that's iconic
Vader is pretty much the most iconic villain in fiction, I can’t think of another villain(besides maybe Thanos) who is immediately recognized by even non-fans.
Vader's dialogue in this movie really sold the idea that is what Anakin Skywalker would say. Some stories can't gives me the Anakin's vibe but Vader only
1:29 - The sign of Vader's shadow on the wall behind Krennic, and then the chilling rendition of the Imperial theme, still sends shivers down the spine. And Krennic's expression as Vader walks away is nothing short of 'You ..are a madman.'
I like how ILM and Disney, Lucas clearly established how DS1 was created with flaws, ways to bring it down rather than 2 proton bombs from a single X wing fighter. Galen set up a series of ports, ways to destroy the entire infrastructure.
@@tsonny1104 they are some stupid shits who was influenced by the hyped of that characters in social media. Joker is fine but was overhyped by the internet and all of the fanboys was annoying as fuck, whining about how joker was the greatest the villain.
One thing I love about Rogue One is that it shows how much the Empire was tip-toeing around the Senate before Palpatine dissolved it. And this scene perfectly illustrates that.
People often forget that Palpatine dissolved the Republic with TWO strokes: the proclamation of the Empire in ROTS and then 19 YEARS LATER the dissolution of the Senate (Death Star doctrine) that basically kickstarted the war with the Rebel Alliance. So yes, you're right: all the stuff between ROTS and ANH is basically Sidious/Vader /Tarkin/others preparing a complete military dictatorship, Sith-style (behind your back). But Mothma/Organa were busy as well :)
Considering the various physical disabilities as well as his personal sense of loneliness/ sadness that Anakin Skywalker carries around himself has it's truly amazing that he is still mentally sharp a razor through his various ( and ruthless) tasks and conversations.
@@patdohrety2940 He was powerful enough to, but Palpatine would not be happy with him doing it for no reason (and yes, I am sure he values the guards more than at least most of the officers in the Empire).
I love how vader still has his sense of humour from when he was anakin. “I find your lack of faith disturbing” “Apology accepted Captain Needa” “The emperor isn’t as forgiving as I am” He’s great. It’s a nice little sliver of the man he once was, twisted like the rest of him,
I like this whole scene. The introduction with the lava roiling, the admiration in the servants eyes as he informs Vader that Krennic arrived, the emerging silhouette of the characteristic suit in the play of light and shadow, the gesture play between the characters, everything. This is amazing! :)
2:15 I always liked that Krennic fear using the word "power" in front of Vader, and then Vader just instantly throw the word "power" back in his face with an insult to match, love it!
It seems obvious that inner politics of the empire and power-hungry bureaucrats like Krennic especially disgusts Vader. Since he is the one who built the empire with his bare hands, did all the dirtiest (and hardest) work and lost literally everything he had in this endeavor.
@@englishlady9797 To be fair, Jedi politics is what led all this to happen in the first place. If the Jedi were more proactive like Qui-Gon, all of this could have been prevented
The reason Piett survived after the Falcon jumped at the end of ESB is because Vader respected Piett, unlike his dipshit predecessor Ozzel. Vader killed Ozzel because of an overall insignificant command decision. Piett let Vader's son slip through his fingers and Vader just walked passed him. It was because Piett was a loyalist to the Empire and wasn't motivated by ego or political power. Hell, Piett didn't even want to be promoted to command Death Squadron. Which is exactly why he was promoted.
Yeah krennic is one of the few imperials that actually worked hard to get where he was today, and didn't get his rank because he knew some friends. So of course it would piss him off that after all that hard work building it, then dealing with thrawns tie defender thing, tarkin tries to take credit.
And that's why some Stormtroopers & Imperial officers hated the greedy & power-hungry bureaucrats like Krennic & Tarkin but they respected Vader because despite he was Sith Lord, he was Anakin Skywalker under the suit as he respected the Stormtroopers like he did to the Captain Rex & 501st Clone Legion before.

Should of be called the Revenge Of The Sith 2...This movie deserves a academy award nomination.. It stands high with the original trilogy and then some..
I love how, even after being choked by Vader, Krennic still has just a hint of a smile at the end... He asked Vader if he was still in command, and Vader didn't say no....
I like how you can definitely tell it’s James doing the actual ADR. While I love the result they pulled off in the Kenobi series, this has a different tone. In Kenobi it’s a “younger” Vader, and he sounds more in line with the original trilogy. While here, you can definitely hear the age of James. But I think it still works well. He’s older yes, and he doesn’t have the “booming” volume when he was younger, but his more quiet and consistent tone creates unease and a very powerful sense of authority. So while he sounds older definitely, I think it works to the benefit of Vader overall.
I agree, the only line that I don't think carries 'as well' is "an Imperial Facility OPENLY ATTACKED!?". It didn't sound as strong as it maybe should have but hey you know what, it's JEJ, he can have a pass :D
James Earl Jones will ALWAYS be remembered as the voice of Lord Vader, even when he passes. He's cemented the iconic role to a tee in perhaps the greatest of screen villains from the 20th Century, AND beyond....No one will EVER come close to being better as the voice of the screen legend!!!!
Don't be too hard on JJ, he had to clean up the raw sewage that Rian Johnson put out while coming on set for a film that was already in production. Blame Disney mostly. I believe the movies would've been better if Abrams was allowed to do all three of the trilogy.
When I saw this in the cinema, I was taken a back by Vaders return and that 'dawning' light behind him, it felt like the return everyone wanted! Man I loved this and a few other scenes, I choked on my tears lol.
Many great villains insult in condescending tones the titles of others. As another example, many make fun of Batman’s title as “detective” and Link as “hero”.
It didn't feel like disdain so much as he was confirming to him that he WAS still the director....he just left the "for now" part unsaid, confident that that threat was understood..
2:17 I like how Krennic instantly knew that Vader would’ve been pissed if he had said ‘power’ instead of ‘potential’, as if Vader wanted him to be sure that the only ‘power’ in the galaxy is the dark side of the force.
That, and politics in general really piss him off. Imagine doing all of the dirty work, and having to be judged by people sitting in fancy capital ships? Anakin would've loved to slice through Krennic, if he knew it wouldn't result in upsetting his master and prolonging the Death Star's construction.
@@takedown205productions6 Every soldier understands your point if they rise up the chain far enough. True soldiers are warriors first and political animals second.
Well, Dooku is a representation of the "Fallen Jedi" aspect of Vader. All of the prequel villains foreshadowed Darth Vader: Maul is a Sith consumed by hatred, Dooku is a Fallen Jedi and Grievous is a cyborg.
Had to compare this to Episode 3 of Obi Wan. MAN he sounds better in Obi Wan, really happy they were able to fix the filter or something on the voice to make it sound better.
As well as "Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the force."
Building a palace for himself near the site of his greatest defeat and where he lost the love of his life and child (unbeknownst to him) makes me respect Vader’s fall to the dark side even more. That’s dedication to pain and anger.
Well technically Padme died on the asteroid base but of course Vader believes he kill her so your point makes sense since that's where she was when palpatine claimed vader killed her although I believe he had doubt that he did when he sensed her still alive
And it was his own choice too. Sidious was genuinely shocked when Vader told him he wanted Mustafar as his lair and then ecstatic, because he knew why Vader wanted it.
