I was hunting for how to do more than gate/pitch and how to create other functions, I figured we could attenuate but I never imagined we could apply envelopes to CV out. I can’t wait to go try this!

Great video, thanks man! One tip that maybe you're already aware of; if you twist the knobs on the a4 while holding the function key the values snap, this occurred to me when you were setting the lfo back to zero. Cheers!

@@bentropy Hey, sorry to say, but this channel is not really active anymore. Still have the 0Coast but the A4 is long gone. What I can tell you is that they're a perfect pairing. I actually once played a set featuring A4 / 0Coast and a Boss Looper. thanks for this! I'm not sure if i understood what meant at the end around 18:50 about the trig "cancelling the LFO" every 2 turnarounds (sequencer cycles?). How does the cancellation happen? thanks

Man that was a great tutorial, thank you so much. Very beginner friendly and well explained. What I still don’t understand is: in this same example; how many Audio tracks in A4 have you left to work with? ...as track 3 and 4 were already used by cv as well as the cv track of course. ...not sure if I’m getting this right.

That's a really good question. I would have to check it out in action and--for the time being--I don't have a semi modular in the studio. Maybe I'll try it out with my Slim Phatty later. To the best of my knowledge, you select the input source in the CV menu for each CV "channel" (CV, TRK1, TRK2 etc.) so, in theory, you could have track 4 play a sequence and the same sequence can be sent to control e.g. envelopes on your modular gear.

@@chatolars I think the answer is that it depends on what you're doing on that non-CV track of the A4. If you use, say track 4's pitch tuning info to send pitch CV to the modular, I'm not sure you can use it internally with the A4 (at least for anything beyond a unison relationship between the modular and the A4 track 4). But this frees up that voice of polyphony to be used by another track, say track 3, for two-note intervals, instead of monophonic. I haven't tried this out, so this could be a bit off, but this is my understanding.

Just a candid naive question, why did you sell your ms20??? Anyway, instructive video, i’m looking for second hands A4 mk1 to expand my setup and so it was helpful

It's complicated: I wanted to integrate a better looper into my setup and have a mixer with sends on my desk, and getting rid of the MS-20 was the only scenario in which I could accommodate these boxes. But I'm sure I'm gonna buy it back one of these days.

Yes, you have :) Unfortunately, I have no experience with a Midi to CV converters, so I can't attest to their strengths and limitations.

somehow i still dont get it. is it not that most synth have 1 volt per ocatve ? so c3 you have around 1v for first note, so c6 is 3 octaves , should be then 3 V plus 1 frtom the fisrt aand you end up at around 4 v ? but you have at the end 8

It's because the MS-20 mini uses "hertz per volt". You have two Pitch menu items: volt per octave and hertz per volt in the CV Config menu and you can choose whichever you want based on what synth you're controlling.

You mean if there's any reason to control the Minitaur using the CV interface, rather than standard MIDI? Well If you own the Octatrack / Digitakt, you can just control your Minitaur using the OT and CC messages. If you don't own the Octatrack / Digitakt and want to take advantage of Trig Conditions to control various parameters, the A4 is a great alternative: 4 CV outputs on the A4 and 4 CV inputs on the Minirtaur. In terms of musicality, I guess the CV interface could lend itself to more unpredictable results than a standard MIDI protocol...

That would truly be a powerful pairing: having a DIGITAKT for samples and an A4 for synths. I would also say, that in such a config you can almost emulate the Analog RYTM, as the A4 is a competent drum synthesizer in its own right.

HalutioN Awesome! I was just about to ask if you thought the A4 would be able to create some AR type sounds to fill the Digitakt. I was really sold after hearing some amazing Boards of Canada type stuff a guy on Elektronauts has made with his Analog Keys. The A4 seems like a really versatile and capable synth! Plus, the Digitakt was a good gateway into the Elektron workflow.

I mean I like Analog RYTM but, at the end of the day, it is my least favorite Elektron Box. With the Digitakt you can feed the sounds through the Four to really blend the samples with the synthesized drums. Add a Make Noise 0Coast later controlled by the CV track of the A4 and you'll get yourself quite a setup :)

Sure, I don't see why not; either by sequencing it straight from the A4 or by sending a sync signal into ADV clock. However, if you want to send both the clock and the CV sequence, you would probably need to sacrifice one A4 track. What I usually do--since most of my kicks are just four on the floor and I often use the A4 for kicks--is send the kick drum track into the CV output C as a clock source.

Thanks! In a sense it’s a conscious decision not to go mainstream: I know the blueprint, but just can’t be bothered to post consistently, ride on tentpoles and be the “online personality” that I should be.
