Dreamcast are plentiful and have VGA output. It also has the cheapest and easiest optical drive emulation options available should you be inclined to use them.
You guys know that you can use the switch N64 NSO controller too… even if somehow it can’t connect via Bluetooth (remains to be seen) there are dongles you can use, then you get the true n64 experience. Just saying. (I already use them on my N64’s and they work perfectly).
I think it's 100% worth the price. especially when you think about how expensive HD mod kids are for the N64 (hundreds of dollars) and then you need modification and soldering skills as well. This is a great way to get the best thing for a reasonable price.
The Nt Mini was $450, and the Nt Mini Noir was $500. Both consoles sold out, fast. That's where the 3D price estimates came from. They were not fabricated out of thin air, as was said in the video.
They were estimated by people who weren't following Analogue long enough. Comparing anything to the NT Mini is a huge folly, and thinking the console would sell out as quickly as the Pocket was also foolish. The 3d should be compared to the Mega SG and the Super NT. Of course, the people complaining weren't paying attention to those two since they didn't make headlines.
Don't forget that 8bitdo has that Bluetooth mod kit for OEM N64 controllers too. If that works with this system, which I'm sure it will, you can still have that OG trident controller feeling while playing. I purchased the mod kit, put it in one of my OG gray N64 controllers, and it is very true to the original. The hall effect thumbstick feels better and replicates the sensitivity of the original perfectly. Highly recommend the mod kit (no solder) for those looking to have that trident OG controller, but also get the freedom Bluetooth provides. Edit: the mod kit, with hall effect thumbstick, will run you ~$30. So if you have an OEM N64 controller, this is a cheaper option compared to the modern N64 controller release with this system.
One important point to make is how many of these features will actually be available on day one. The Pocket released in practically a beta state; stuff like crt filters took another year+ to arrive. I highly recommend waiting for the console to release to see what you’re actually getting. They’ll be selling this for several years bare minimum, so there’s no rush.
I mean, we have a 50k fpga system at work emulating a chip thats yet to be fabricated but w the fpga we can start testing in certain scenarios. A $500 n64 fpga system is really not that far off from reality. $250 really is a banging price.
The hyperkin wasn't 9 years ago, it was 2019 - only 5 years ago. Besides the Pocket and Duo, all their other products were announecd Oct 16 and shipped March. The NT Mini, Mega SG and Super NT both were.
Pros: Price. Easily cheaper than buying an original N64, paying for the required maintenance and cleaning on it, and then buying an HDMI kit and paying for installation. On the very cheap end your looking at like $450 for that. The 3D, with tax and shipping, is about $300. Since the n64h as no special chip games, you can pretty much skip the need for the flash cart too once the jailbreak firmware comes out. Simplicty. You can get a $100 misterPI setup now, for about $160-$200 all in your fully setup. BUT, it's not plug and play. There's a lot too it and if your not one who tinkers in the stuff, the learning curve can be a little higher. No 4k. Need additional accessories to support multiple controllers. Can't use real cartridges. The 3D is plug and play. Cons: Big miss not utilizing openFPGA here. With how powerful this thing is, the PS1 core would have been runnable. Probably the saturn and Jaguar cores too. That would have sold some of these no doubt. Somewhat bigger miss not doing an N64 NSO style controller instead of the retro fighters brawler 64 style they went with. I'm sure it will be a decent offering. But a miss IMO. Big miss not being compatible with the DAC. Being able to have the ability to use this both on your 4K OLED flat screen and your chunky old CRT is IMO a miss. That should have been a design strategy from day 1. I didn't buy one. I had a jungle green N64 that I installed a pixelFX N64Digital kit into. I only ever played that system over RGB on my CRT. I hooked it up to my flat screen maybe 2-3 times total. So I sold my modded N64 for like $650 on ebay. Bought another system for like $120 with a whole bunch of stuff (boxed memory card, boxed exp pack, boxed RF adapter, a controller, 10 games) that wasn't working. It just needed cleaned. I've since done a bunch of repairs to it, and RGB modded it. It now takes the place of the more expensive system I sold off, and I use it for my N64 needs quite happily. If I didn't have the CRT and the original N64 I RGB modded... I'd absolutely have ordered a 3D.
For the $300 ($250 + tax and analogues steep shipping) for this device, you can get: A dirt cheap black N64 for $40-$60 that works fine from fb marketplace or eBay, $45 Wireless Brawler64 controller, $35 4LAYER Forever Pak 64, $90 RetroTink 2X Mini and $99 Everdrive 64 X5. ... MOST people would be better served doing the that. And it real hardware and not FPGA emulation.

nowadays I play with a hori style controller and I haven't found any games where the original style controller is preferable, even as a kid I would never hold the middle prong, always outside grip
8bitdo also has a replacement board kit for the original 64 controller that is probably identical in feeling to this the controller that comes with this since it's all the same parts just in different shapes.
I have a retrotink for upscaling. So to me, the only reason I can see to buy this console that I can use it if my Nintendo poops out. Is that a good enough reason to buy it? Legit question wondering everyone’s thoughts. :)

Nintendo is a contradiction, being both brilliant and senile at the same time. I don't want a new 3rd party console for my old games from past gens. I want Nintendo to sell their old games on new consoles proper, so that I don't have to rely on emulation to play Anticipation (Pat & Ian's favourite NES game). Or f'ckin rent them on NSO, which is the same grift as all streaming services.
have you looked up how expensive the good quality HD mod kits are for the N64? I remember pixelfxco's N64 Digital kit going for like 300 dollars. This is a decent price when you consider that, plus you don't need to install it yourself.
Considering the original N64 launch at $200 and you only need $50 to mod it to HD, this console is a great deal. Every Nintendo consoles back then from NES - GameCube all launch at $200. It wasn't until the Wii that Nintendo change the launch price.
Because the price fir producing PCBs goes down the more you order, same with moulds for plastic parts so to make it as you get an order would increase the price 3,45 times. What they should do is have a list of people who pay a disposit for each batch then when they hit worthwhile numbers they hit the go button and if anyone drops out offer it to any new interest

analogue lies about fpga emulation not being emulation, and they lie about 100% native compatibility which almost none of their consoles have, including analogue pocket. the fact people make excuses or defend their lying is cringe

Well theres a chunk of highly regarded games and i have ti say blast corps is an awsome game that still holds up today. All that being said, that chunk of great games pales in comparison to the swarm of amazing games NES, SNES, Genesis. I love all systems and love thise good n64 games but i agree, the system library isnt as string even thiugh theres a chunk of bangers. I think its just a large chunk of oeople in this hobby grew up with the n64. I had a great time either way the n64. But heing along the ride for the release of nes, snes, genesis, ps1, ps2 etc… i just dont think its anywhere close.

I can't imagine someone paying so much for such a small library of games, but nostalgia makes people drunk. Nintendo totally fucked themselves by using cartridges, they lost all the 3rd parties.
