A quick spin through the basic principals of an analogue vocoder using a Seekers Voice Spectra.
Demonstrates some modulator / carrier combinations and also some robot voice effects.
We finish off with a short bit of music utilising the vocoder in context.
I'm planning on doing some more advanced and experimental things with it in the future as there's a lot of scope to try things with it.
As always, thanks for watching.

That 606 on the vocoder was so creative. Cant get enough of this channel!

Thanks. I'd like to claim I thought of it, but people have been doing it for a long time. I want to try things that other people haven't though, so an experimental video is planned.

@@AlexBallMusic i love experimental/unconventional setups. My personal favorite is using crazy combos of fx pedals on 60s electric organs

Sounds like a lot of fun! I've run my 70s organ through some pedals and that was interesting.

My ears don't fool me, this is the best vocoder i ever heard demo'ed. That sound when you went so low pitched... that quality... amazing!
@AlexBallMusic
@AlexBallMusic 5 лет назад
It's an excellent vocoder for the price range. The clarity is far superior to any others I've ever used. As things like the EMS are so expensive, this is a great alternative.

Great example with what you can use a vocoder for. I was a little perplexed when Roland brought out the VT-3. I thought who uses a vocoder these days except Daft Punk. What was really entertaining was Roland's David Ahlund impersonating Stephen Hawking. Needless to say that YT was pulled shortly after.
@AlexBallMusic
@AlexBallMusic 5 лет назад
I'm intrigued to try different things. Like a guitar as modulator and a piano as carrier so you get strummed piano for example. Loads of experiments to try. VT-3 - haha. Haven't seen David's demo.

@@AlexBallMusic Not likely to see it either. I've had a quick look and it's been removed. Entirely inappropriate but it was funny. Guess David must of got a bollocking for that.

Thumbs up before I've even watched! Good to see videos on using vocoders! Ever tried using a talkbox per chance? There is a huge lack of videos explaining good method on those, and the 2 are so commonly confused. For me on talkbox it took me a while to realise it's based around pronouncing just the consanants in the words, omitting any vowel sound. Very trippy to learn! Btw cool song at the end - you releasing a little EP or album of all these short songs? They are very catchy!
@AlexBallMusic
@AlexBallMusic 5 лет назад
Talkbox is hard! First challenge is the whole mouthing words and only sounding consonants (as you're saying). Then there's the problem of keeping the tube clear of parts of your mouth that mute the sound. So consistency whilst moving is not easy. I think I'd need to practice mine a lot more before demonstrating, but it's a good video idea.

Yes how everything is connected in helpful. I learned how USB MIDI is not grounded so now I'm planning all traditional 5pin DIN MIDI cables with a MUTO midi interface in adding to my Apogee interface. Please cover mixers and synths running into the audio interface. Grounding and power management. @@AlexBallMusic

Computer Love was a recording by an artist by the name ZAPP using a Vocoder
@AlexBallMusic
@AlexBallMusic 5 лет назад
@@DAVIDGREGORYKERR Yep I got that. It's just you said they used "this unit", so I thought you meant the Voice Spectra in my video (which came out 15 years after Computer Love was recorded). They would have used an earlier vocoder by a different manufacturer, although I was saying the track sounds more like a talk box, which is what they were famous for using.
