HUGE THANK YOU to every one that tuned in for my birthday stream, it meant a lot to me! I have a lot of fun at these streams so I hope you'll follow and come hang out next time! www.twitch.tv/jarek4gamingdragon
Smack the bottom right and slightly tilt the console trust me it's fine mine did that too I did it on my Xbox 360 from 2007 and it now works like normal sometimes dust gets into there so smacking it fress it of the dust you are not very bright aye hahahahaha
@@bovinleephann I disagree, I bought it off GOG and it required zero patches to play on W10. The only thing I needed a fix for was EAX but that's the case with any game running EAX.
@@TooMuchSascha Extraction Point doesnt "officially" support widescreen for example, so yeah thats that also the games might not run at all on some Windows 8-12 machines
Yeah and, locking leaning in place lol.. This is why people think of leaning as a cover system instead of a movement augmentation.. that and its default binds of q& e. Change that to c.v and you can hit it with your thumb, can still jump and lean too if you want to since you could just lay the thumb back... Genuinely can't stand shooters that don't have a lien function, but man is it such a sadness when they butcher it from what it could have been. There was a time back when you just were expected to rebind your controls, certainly when you were expected to like take a look at them and see what they were in the first place lol.. perhaps come up with optimal solutions, which is how we got WSAD in the first place lol.. that was the time when you could have an action shooter and still be able to lean left and right in it.. from soldier of Fortune to elite Force 1n2, far cry, fear, stalker, although in all fairness stalker actually is kind of a tactical shooter.. But crisis sure doesn't have to be lol.. until they turned it into a cover mechanic and gimped you and all other sorts of ways for the console brethren Which makes some sense cuz you are wearing a gimp suit in that game.. which in my opinion makes it the unofficial sequel to MDK,
Yeah I was like, are Americans so rich they can just destroy things for minor problems? I'd've tried to fix it, but I get how it could've been a bother.
The 360 version on a Series X is the best way to play on console. 60 fps, plus the control issues are fixed with a controller that includes paddles on the back. Easy leaning and medkit usage
I first played the game via the 360 port back when my only gaming PC was a Windows 10 tablet that could only run games like Half-Life 1 and Deus Ex. Its far from the ideal way to play FEAR 1 but I had a good time with it and when I finally saved up enough to build a gaming rig I bought the PC version shortly after. Its a good gateway into the PC version imo.
I wish more games would make backpack reloading part of the difficulty. In games like FO:NV it's literally better to switch weapons because it's faster than normal reloading sometimes. If it was something I could turn off/on I wouldn't mind as much. That said, shame there's no "FEAR consoles content" mod for classic FEAR, It'd be cool to have the PC version with the exclusive console weapons and maps. (Hey whoever owns the rights to FEAR, Tomb Raider got a remaster that added the PC expansions to consoles and everyone loved that!.)
disk reader goes bad "one of the easiest fixes for the 360" burns xbox. why bro why did u do it XD i used to fix disk readers all the time this is such an easy fix lmao
As bad as the PS3 port was, it was my introduction to the series, and I loved it. I still remember watching my one uncle play it and I was so shocked by how intense the combat was. I couldn't wait to get my own copy and playing through it.
I LOVED THESE GAMES. I bought all the FEAR games on 360 from GameStop for crazy cheap, it was my first time playing the series. Basically vodka, pizza, FEAR saga on 360 and snow days. Man that was a great weekend.
My 360 died a few years back. It sucks. While I appreciate there being backwards compatibility with the One and Series X, there's so many games that aren't on that list I can't play now because I don't have a 360.
Good thing PC players can get access to those lost 360 games via torrents and emulation. I was pissed that Shift 2 Unleashed wasn’t backwards compatible, and I wanted to play that game so badly…
@@brawler5760 Its never "every game." I've yet to see any emulator or torrent for an entire library. I bet at least 50% of those games are a nightmare to get running on a modern pc. When I wanna do tech support for 2-3 hours or more before I play a game I play on pc. When I want to just play a game I play on consoles.
Too bad he torched one that could have easily been fixed! Could have been yours for a discount on eBay lol.. that was kind of, that was kind of... Like, I wouldn't have any interest.. But there are genuine people that are genuinely into that.. and eventually there will be no more.. and that would accelerate if everybody douses them in lighter fluid.
RIP Jarek's Xbox 360. :( My first 360 redrang YEARS ago, then the replacement had the disc drive die. I replaced it with one of the 360S models, and that's been solid for years.
I only played F.E.A.R. in the 360 😅 And I love the game even with all the problems, and the Instant Action scenarios was so much fun (F.E.A.R. Files included)
There was still enough greatness that shone through that I fell in love with it on the 360. I never struggled with controls myself outside of the melee being iffy and the aim assist going haywire at random like you said. That Watson shotgun also shows up on an Instant Action map in F.E.A.R. Files though just at the very end.
I think u can get the auto shotgun in fear files (it’s basically both expansions extraction point and Perseus mandate) on the Xbox port plus it fixes the issue with the Machine pistols being OP as you rarely get them and have to go out of your way to find them with bullets magnet slightly being tune down I do mean slightly as the particle canon can sometimes do the it pulls to a random direction
I'll be honest, the only reason I would pick up (and once tried on the PS3, disc didn't work so I returned it and got Battlefield Bad Company, better investment in my opinion) is for the exclusive levels, the XBOX 360 has a level where you play as Holiday escorting that Armacham suit in Armacham HQ and the PS3 has you playing as the Delta Force Operators that got turned to bloody skelletons that you find in a lobby in the main game.
@@josedorsaith5261 The thing that gets with Trepang is the no aim feature. I cant get over that for some reason. Just feels like youre hipfiring nonstop. Other than that, its very enjoyable gameplay wise
Best way to describe going from F.E.A.R on console to pc is using the classic halo quote format "When you first Played F.E.A.R (on pc), were you blinded by its majesty?
My first experience of FEAR was on the 360. Man stick aim is rough, I feel the same way with Valve games on console. The extra stuff like level where you escort Bishop as Holiday, or the Delta force mission on PS3 was cool. I hope someone can port them to PC. Felt so much better once I could play it on PC and grabbed the whole FEAR collection at a huge sale. Plus the FEAR SDK for custom maps (though Idk how to use it and I can't really find many tutorials or resources on it).
Funny enough, as an mainly xbox player, FEAR is probably the 1st game i insisted on learning to play using KB/M on my pc, most of the ones I played before i used my xbox controller
Did you notice any low audio issues when playing it on the Xbox one? I’ve noticed this heavily when playing it on Xbox one S. Sometimes the audio for some sections would just get super low or completely cut out. Don’t know if it’s just my console
This is an interesting watch and i recommend you should play other FPSs that were released on Consoles as i heard they were a bit different to PC counter parts....Like the Half Life Games. Shame about your 360 cus you could have jail brokened it and used it as a emulation box or just download and play old 360 game that didn't get the backwards compatibility.
I got a controller with back paddles specifically for this game on console. Binding the back paddles to the lean feature really made the game a lot better on console. Btw you really should’ve tried this on Series X since it’s 60fps but you probably don’t have that console so it makes sense.
I wish the PC version had the instant action mode that the 360 has. I love replaying FEAR on PC, but if I am itching for a quick shootout; I fire up the game on Series X for instant action
I remember my dads pc couldn’t even run FEAR back then due to how advanced it was when it came out, we installed and played it or maybe its demo and got like 1 or 2fps on the first tutorial level due to the stairwell lighting. So the Xbox 360 version was the first version I remember being able to actually play, and loving that it was basically a straight PC port (super rare even today), where the shoulder buttons were for Leaning. I hated how they made FEAR 2 for consoles and ported it to PC, not having any lean keys on PC, since they didn’t have them on console. I always wondered where the instant action and SMG was on PC, I forgot console got extra content we never did on PC.
I've only played FEAR on ps3, recently for the first time, and the lag is real but I still LOVED it! Sorry yall missed out on that Auto shotty, it's very nice
"I know it's an easy fix.." proceeds to light it on fire... Sprays more lighter fuel after hearing it scream... Lol remember that scene from Monty Python and the holy Grail lol... "...I'm not dead!"
When I was in middle school and was using a 12 year old Sony VAIO with no internet, the PC version of much of anything wasn't an option. Lol. I myself have fond memories of F.E.A.R 2 PE and F.E.A.R 3 on 360. Thankfully I bought the Steam bundle years ago
The console version is one I want to have mostly as a collectable with the expansions, of course I'll play the PC version as well. Too bad about what happen to your Xbox 360, luckily I still had the chance to fix it a few years back, is a great piece of history. Gaming gods bless backwards compatibility. Note: The PS3 exclusive shotgun, could be called the automatic Warcrime 2.0, hot damn if this shotgun was real, I don't know if anybody would allow to use it. And I might know why people prefer controllers over keyboard + mouse and quoting James Rolfe from a Cinemassacre episode "This fun (controller), this is work(keyboard+ mouse)"
Oh my sweet summer child. Over here thinking an OG 360 gonna read your discs. There’s an evil hex on these machines and they require the sacrifice of your sanity to be appeased.
The 360 was just having issues reading discs? Should of just repaired it. Easy fix if that was the only issue. I agree F.E.A.R. on PC is superior but the 360 version is more than serviceable. My first experience playing it was in college on my Xbox 360 and it was personally my favorite 360 game at the time. My roomates loved it as well. Would really love to see this game get a proper remaster. Nightdive needs to get their hands on this one.
Yeah, but I loved the ps3. It has such a unique exclusive library. The bad thing about the ps3 is a lot of third party ports were pretty bad in the early day.
15:11 Wait, Half life 2 has backpack reloading? I never noticed because I usually stick with a few weapons, those few weapons are automatics. Once I got the pulse rifle, I dont usually stray away from it. As for FEAR teh console ports, never bought them but seeing the "machine pistols" with no animations is very bad which may say the devs needed the consoles to seem more appealing.
In this day and age when people are up in arms about video game preservation are we seriously destroying video games and video game consoles for gags still?
The 'offensive' control scheme w/ crouch set to 'toggle' is the move 👌🏻reminded me that there are valid alternatives to the COD ADS control scheme for console shooters
I've recently went back and playing through all three F.E.A.R. games on Xbox. Beat the 1st and about to best the second. I can play them on either of my 360's. But..have been playing them now on my Ssries X.
Great video as always! But i really gotta say, i never understood why people say that 60 frames is a necessity and stuff. Sure it' smoother than 30, but i seriously never felt a difference
I can absolutely tell a difference and 60 is always preferable, but 30 is perfectly playable to me so long as it's stable. Then again, I grew up on PS1 games so maybe I'm just used to it.
I could be wrong but i think the whole "smooth 30fps" thingy is definitely had to do with Stable Frame timing which i learnt about few months ago. and you probably played games that's are well optimized and has good frame timing. Like a game running at 30fps but also has good frame timing results in a more smoother experience and while a game running at 60+fps with awful frame time makes the game jittery even though you swear it's running on a higher frame rate and I think this is why people not only check and caps their frame rate and but also check their frame timing and optimize accordingly
@@Loathsome_Lynx i can barely notice lmao. Of course, stable 30 is better than it oscillating, below 30 is actually pretty bad, but i have never really felt a big difference with 60 frames
Framerate is also tied to actions. A game running at 60fpd will register the input twice as fast as 30fps. Of course, we are talking about 1/30th of a second vs 1/60th of a second. It's not super noticeable unless you play a lot of fps games, but since that also applies to camera controls, thus aiming, it does actually make a difference.
Ah, you should've mentioned the side mission in the 360 version, where you play as Douglas Holiday. Otherwise, this is great coverage of the console versions, thanks for sharing!
Actually you can kind of get around the control issues by creating a custom control scheme through the Xbox itself. This will make navigating menus a pain but playing the game itself will be a lot better. I’ve used this pretty frequently with remasters of old games that don’t have updated controls, like Metal Wolf Chaos XD.
I think the reason the Console version has backback reloading is to compensate for the clunkier movement and gameplay. The control scheme slows the player down and makes them less effective with an aggressive playstyle, so they were hoping having your guns instantly loaded whenever you draw them would be a buff that still lets you focus on dealing damage fast even with your already slowed down approach. (I can't easily take on this group of enemies at close range, but at least whenever I need the shotgun it will be ready, etc.)
I played F.E.A.R. and F.E.A.R. 2 on the Xbox Series X and it’s actually pretty good. The emulation has some nifty features. But no doubt, the PC version is still the way to play F.E.A.R. mainly due to the controls. I also have F.E.A.R. for PS3, which isn’t exactly a pleasant experience…
Love FEAR, though it always felt like the console versions were more 'niche' in a way because I hardly ever saw anyone mention them. You can still play pretty well even with the handicap of the controls!
I really regret not installing games earlier on my 360. Could have spared some load on the drive. How 10 year old me put up with that drive at full rpm, I will never understand.
I've played FEAR on both PC and Series X, both are a fun romp. One of my favorite FPS franchises to date, and I've been playing shooters since the late 90s. I make a point to play it yearly. Extraction Point is great, Perseus Mandate is...alright, Project Origin is pretty good, and we don't talk about F3AR.
I noticed my Wii disc drive finally bit the dust. My 360 and og xbox are on their way out. Ps1 is dead. My launch ps2 always had reading issues too. See a trend here?
So I recently played fear and fear files the comment about how it’s a slow tactical shooter is exactly what I thought it was going to be going in and after my play through and seeing the pc port it is 100% the controls the input delay is real chapter 5 or whatever when you have to jump across the broken floors was a pain I played on a 360 slim it was still a great time but I kind of liked the slower gameplay
Concerning the input lag on F.e.a.r Black ops and many other games backward compatible xbox games. You have to go to your tv settings and change the low latency mode to on. Should fix the issue
I played it for years on the PS3 and loved it every time. Then in 2011 I got a gaming PC and nearly had my mind blown with how much better it was. Graphics were one thing, but that smooth control and frame rate where amazing introductions as to why PC gaming is just the best way to play anything.
