Hey every one! LOTS of you asked me to make a video of this game. I always wanted to so here we are! Thanks to every one that hung out on twitch. If want to catch me in future streams come give a follow! www.twitch.tv/jarek4gamingdragon
I agree I played this game 30 times and it never has been dull the ending did piss me off and how people writing the reviews and being critics about this game had brains of pissants
@@Beyodd i don't know why Developers just can't focus on a game being fun the first and foremost. Whenever the developers put their energy and passion into a game the money comes automatically
@@Stefan-1978hate to tell you, but it’s an old game, where does it say in the dictionary that the word “old” can only be used after a certain period has surpassed? It doesn’t, so a game from 2009 can be called old as it is old, it’s not now and it was even in a different decade to what it is now.
Can't a game just be "okay"? Does it always has to be GOTY or trash? Why invent a scale with 100steps and then only use 15 of them. This is one of these games that are far away from being masterpieces but have their moments and can just be enjoyable fun.
Well compared to bad games now, many games before 2015 in my opinion are pretty good games compared to what we are getting. It’s the lack of innovation.
Couldn’t have said it better, nowadays it applies to movies that it must be above a really high standard which I believe makes some game developers refuse to make games within a genre fearing it might be overshadowed by the highest rated game
They seriously need to do some kind of reboot or remastering. Mythical monsters invading the modern day world and fighting in survival horror/action playstyle is such a cool concept.
i realy like this game when i was younger and i would enjoy too a remaster. But many people would like the remaster i think...sadly bc it was a realy good game.
I randomly picked this up for my PS3 back in the day cause it was cheap. The guy at game stop actually TOLD me not to get it. I bought it anyway, played through it and loved every minute. I still go back and listen to the soundtrack to this day.
Omg same thing happen to me but for the X360, played the demo and liked it when to pick it up once it was cheap and remember the Gamestop guy telling me "really?why?" Lol
It wasn't Gamestop but a used video game store 6-7 years ago I bought 3 PS3 games for a total of $15 and the guy at the counter looked at me and said "Really? Out of all the games in this store you're going to buy THOSE 3?" And shook his head. They were: Puppeteer, Folklore and 3D Dot Game Heroes. Never heard of them. They looked different. If I hated all 3 I was only out $15 and figured what the Hell? I loved all three and completely stopped listening to what people who work in gaming stores think just like I ignore professional reviews and most average people reviews. I'll try it myself and give my honest opinion. Which people hate. I played one game, wont say which one but it's in a popular franchise, that I hated for about 10 different reasons that I could articulate and demonstrate. Someone told me it was a great and flawless game. I told them they were literally insane to their face. Then asked them to debunk my issues and how they're great. The person couldn't and stormed off pissed at me. I still don't care. At this point have actual reasons one way or the other or shut up. Ain't nobody got time for fools.
My first job ever as an 18 yr old was at GameStop and one time a teen went in to return the bioshock collection on disc and I tried to convince him not to return it cause it's a great trilogy and we would only give him 4 dollars for it FOUR DOLLARS. He did return it. I will never forget it
You may not attach a score to games, but you provide a honest opinion, give reasons for that opinion, and explain games much better than most other content creators. Plus your content is entertaining.
This was the problem with game reviews from around 2009. The industry was moving towards modern military shooters with amazing graphics and a huge focus on multiplayer. Tons of pretty good games got written off by the critics because they weren't the next CoD killer or didn't have a fully fleshed out MP mode and its such a shame. Watch any IGN review from that time and its frankly appalling. Its nice to be able to look back at some older games now with a more objective lens and see how many of those hold up. Some of them have actually aged better than the cod clones funnily enough. This game alone deserves some points for its creativity, If only we could get more modern fantasy stuff
Thank god I'm not the only person who enjoys this game, I think it's a fun time and I listen to the awesome rock soundtrack from time to time on spotify 😀 Edit: Thanks for the second shelf FPS games! That's honestly my niche haha
The last task in the game could be better. But the reason a lot of people were having trouble was they were not shooting the werewolves in the head - they get back up after body shots... like a werewolf would. I think I got stuck on some rubble once and had to reload the game and the next time the same place worked fine. Other that it was a perfectly passable game - one I can say I actually rather liked. (same goes for Fall of Liberty). I suppose if you wanted to a be a tetchy princess about it you might complain about a lack of enemy types. But considering how God Aweful some major Publisher titles are (like Resident Evil 6) calling this bad makes me think they have not played as many games as they might have - Legendary is pretty much dead Average - slightly below say Singularity - but perhaps better than Killzone (the original) and much better than Sega's badly implemented Zombie games were to me. It's certainly a better game than Haze as well.
@@90lancaster I easily understand why you would think it's dead average,it definitely has problems. I just have a soft spot for Legendary (and Singularity) and have beaten it like 5 times lol Oh and Haze is a dumpster fire
@Ivan Malek Isn't that the same guy who panned RE2 Remake and got shit by people while getting praise by Elitist Old School RE Fans who hates the Remake for not haven't Fixed Camera.
This game had such a great concept and while the budget and tech was a bit out of reach for the devs, they honestly did a decent enough job for an AA title. It has some bullshit here and there but I couldn't deny the fun I had playing it, hell, I must have beaten this game approximately 5 times and I'd love to go for round 6. It sure as hell does not deserve the 3.5 on gamespot!
I remember playing the demo, and absolutely LOVING the designs of the werewolves... They looked menacing as hell, and the others like the griffin and minotaur looked slick for the time. Also.... Me and my friend might've been the only ones to even touch the online mode... Cuz we NEVER found a match with randoms... Just me and him against each other and some werewolves in the stages popping up from time to time
I remember reading a review of the game in a magazine when it first came out. They gave it a 5 out of 10. Their main problem was that despite the mystical elements and the fact you were fighting mythological creatures, it didn't feel any different from a regular FPS at the time. Probably didn't help that it came out 3 days before Gears of War 2. Still, it's nice that this game got some more attention in recent years, including from Matt McMuscles. This game isn't a lost classic that was overlooked, but it's also not one you'll regret playing.
Hey just recently started watching you analysis's and immediately subscribed. A game I remember fondly from my childhood you may like is Spartan: Total Warrior. I played it over and over again on the Gamecube. Picked up recently on the PCSX2 PS2 emulator. The combat is fun, level design is passable, and the story amused me @ times. Appreciate the content. Will have to check out a stream sometime.
This game terrified me as a kid. I always refused to face the warewolf because i didn't want to be mauled to death like the man that was pulled beneath the shutter. I had to ask my cousin to play that section.
I feel the same way about battlefield hardline. Still my favorite in the series and of all of them it’s the one I go back to the most. Btw your old videos helped me out a lot with it lol
I remember when this came out, and I asked my dad to buy it. I wasn't old enough to understand the mechanics enough to play the game, but its a game filled with mythological creatures, why wouldn't I want to play/see this game. My dad was worried about it's age rating, but eventually rented the game and I watched him play it. The same night, I promptly had my first serious nightmares that I can remember that honestly kept me up. The werewolves are what got me. Although after a few days, I got better and could watch my dad play this game, and it was awesome. I just bought it on steam and was surprised at the cheap price, but hey, now I can finally play it myself, for the first time in 12 years.
Got to mention the Funhaus let’s play of it made me wanna see your opinion on the game It’s pretty goofy but it’s like B-movie kinda goofy and I like it
Honestly I'd say one of the things that holds Legendary back is the fact it looks like your bog standard shooter that came out in an era of big standard shooters, sure it's more than that but it's still a shooter in the era of shooters and it does have some moments where it feels like that. Fighting the Kraken? Make it eat missiles which seems kinda underwhelming compared to the method of destroying the Golem, which while gameplay wise was bogged down to - Shoot Werewolves, power up machine- does show that bosses can be made where bullets don't solve the problem. And the game also had a nice way to handle werewolves - Cut off their head with an axe or headshot, the latter of which is comically easy when using a full auto weapon thanks to the posture. However I do feel like there should have been a different 'First enemy' for the player considering the Fire Drake's are ridiculously bullet resistant and explode on dying making melee a bad idea. Honestly this game needs a remake with a few changes, mainly it being longer since we're out of the era of 2 hour single player attention spans, some new enemies, new bosses, and a new final boss like a surprise fight with a Chimera instead of the Half-life rip off.
I WOULD like a sequel to legendary, TBH. The key factors are the license and the studio who will pick it up. I recall the case of stalker, the grandaddy of all horror RPG FPS games (yes, it kick fallout in the face in terms of atmosphere, 'fess up.) that got three games but then it's studio died for some reason, and despite the old dev team wanting to make the next game, the studio wouldn't give them the license for some reason, so they went on to make survarium. Stalker 2 is coming back now, and that game series started in 2007 and released 3 games up until 2009. There's always hope, so long as a game has enough of a following and the market has a demand for it. With the rise of the online multiplayer scene, it's only a matter of time until people get sick of it, like horror walking simulators, FNAFF, survival sandbox, COD clones, etc. We'll get our sweet linear story-drive FPS games back. There;s still hope for good, classic SP FPS railshooter fun.
I remember getting this game and the guy who sold it to me said how terrible it was. It was one of my favorite games for a long time! Great story and awesome creatures haha
I bought Legendary for 360 at launch, did not regret my purchase at all. Not the best FPS ever made, but a fun one with a unique twist. For those wanting to play on Legendary on PS3 through a disc copy. You need to sign off PSN while playing the single player to save your game. If you play it while signed in to PSN the game tries to connect to the online servers that no longer exist and stops you from saving your single player campaign. And man is it very cheap to get Legendary on Steam, well worth the purchase and had no issues getting it to run on a modern build. Unlike Velvet Assassin, another budget WW2 stealth game I liked on 360...
I only played the demo of this game on 360 years ago But I fell I love with the mythical monsters in a first person game. I was so sure it would take off and we would get more games like this. But here we are
I remember when I was like 14 or 15 seeing this game on the shelves. It was always a little too pricey, like $50 dollars minimum for what seemed pretty budget-y. Never in the bargain bin or on discount, and always next to big ticket games that everyone wanted. Feels weird that there's a following for something I just sort of ignored. But I did grow up in a small town so idk, thanks for the vid though, might pick it up after all these years.
I can’t believe these guys also made breaking point: fall of liberty. When I was younger I fucking loved to play that and legendary. I even owned a copy of COD finest hour for my PS2
One of my instructors from early in my college career was lead animator on this game. Always thought that was interesting and made me want to play it even more!
You convinced me. Always felt curious about this one but never gave it a try (and not because the review scores, I wasn’t even aware of that). Just found it for 3€ (3,30$) at my local secondhand store, and felt like playing a fun and entertaining shooter with supernatural elements. Thanks for the recommendation! Keep it up!
Fun fact about Legendary: before the game was launched, I contacted the devs to say how much I was looking forward to it based on the concept alone, but asked if the game was coming out in my native Portugal as none of their other games had so far. They responded by asking me for my address, then sent me a PS3 copy of the game (again, the game wasn't even out yet!), a tie-in graphic novel, t-shirt, and artbook. And they asked for nothing in return. I was a nobody, just a regular gamer. I didn't even have a RU-vid channel or social media accounts or anything they could have hoped to exploit for exposure. Yes, the game could have done some things better. But this gesture on their part ensured it will forever live fondly in my memories.
this game deserves a reboot of the concept. you could easily input a bioshock infinite style shooter with one hand being the gun the other some weird powers (maybe connected to a god like lighting attack for zeus) and open world. and the monster designs were pretty cool since they are a little bit inspired by em but still their own twist with the griffin not being and eagle/lion but a vulture/lion.
This game was awesome, I played it to death. I get that mechanically it’s not amazing, but the creative drive behind it is something missing in modern games. Need to get a copy for my 360 again.
For anyone looking to play this on Steam be aware the elevator bug is still a thing but if it keeps happening when you reload you can fix it by going into the ini file and limiting the FPS to 30 for that section. I bought this on Steam earlier in the year for less than a £. I remember reading up on it before it came out and you could tell the Devs were really passionate about it so I always wanted to check it out. Your video is 100% spot on. It's a fun little game with some rough edges but interesting concept and mechanics.
I remember this game fondly as it had a very good concept with the whole mythological creatures returning in the modern day and wrecking shit up. While it did have its issues, they were easily fixable. I would have given it a 7/10 and recommended it for a sequel/reboot.
0:13 Ah, the rare breeds of youtubers that asked you to watch first consider subscribe later instead of "liKe sUbScrIbE cOmMenT" 5 seconds in is a refreshing change
Loved this game back when it launched, and I had a lot of fun going through the concept, story, soundtracks, and mythology. Also for your next analysis I got some suggestions for you to check out: 1- Exodus From The Earth 2- Liquidator 2 Welcome To Hell 3- Utopia City 4- Breed (XPlosiv version) [thanks to a user who replied to me] 5- Hour Of Victory 6- Neuro Hunter (Fps/Rpg) 7- Psychotoxic 8- Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior 9- Iron Storm 10- Kreed
Hey man it was always pretty fuckin funny when u broke the arms on the werewolves and they tried to attack , the broken arms flailing about as they tried to swing them LOL
You should do Section 8 next. It isn't available for purchase anymore, apart from its sequel. It was an interesting game and I played it a lot on the 360.
I totally agree. For me it's the same thing with "War in the North" and "Resident Evil : Racoon City" . Loved these game but man did critics hate them.
Racoon City was filled with bugs and gameplay inconsistencies that it can be unplayable at times. It was an incredible premise, but executed very poorly.
I was the same way. I loved this game, sure it mechanics were not ground breaking, but the concept was badass and I really had a good time with it. Honestly its a shame that it did end on a cliff hanger and that there is no chance for a sequel.
Hi Jarek, do you use the standard Vsync in the control panel or the "fast" option? I can surely recommend it since it doesn't add any lag and you are free of tearing. Then you can just limit you fps with rivatuner. Just wanted to help if you don't know about this. I love your videos and been subscribed for a long time thanks
If Homefront got a shoddy sequel, then this more than deserves a shot at another game! There is a lot of potential for an awesome sequel if someone would just buy the rights to do it.
I remember picking this up in a game store pre-owned for like £10 or something for the Xbox 360, back around about the time it came out. Best surprise ever when I got home and played it, to this day I've yet to meet anyone else who did play it so it's great to see it here in a video like this!
I am a huge FPS fan so this channel is awesome. I have been introduced to lots of great shooters and also been shown which ones to avoid. Definitely gonna recommend this to my friends.
I know this video is a few years old but I just watched it as the game is on sale for 74 cents right now and I was curious if anyone was still talking about it all these years later. More to the point though, I think it's pretty simple to explain why reviews trashed this. The 360/PS3 era is the age of critics who started to care less about the game part of games and more about how it was as an "experience." So many reviews of that era spent so little time talking about just simple things like gameplay mechanics and why they work or why they don't. Instead you have tons of reviews that have the age old line "are games art?" and they make way too big a deal out of it. Seriously if you go back to reviews/opinions of that era and make it a drinking game your liver wouldn't survive the first hour. The article I remember the most from back then is this one on IGN called "Boss Fights: A Relic of a Bygone Era?" Which is about 16 paragraphs of a dude talking about how boss fights get in the way of the story experience of a game and the medium should just move on and drop the concept entirely. Some parts of the article certainly are true, like how tons of boss fights (from that generation of games) suck, but his conclusion is soooo dumb. If a part of your game sucks the answer shouldn't be to remove it, it should be to make it better. I mean the article is from 2011, nearly 30 years of video games featuring fun boss fights happened before he wrote that drivel. I take it especially personal as someone who is into action games where often times the boss fights are the most memorable part of the game. I've always looked back at that attitude as the reason no one gives a flying fuck about these websites anymore. And I mean that in the truest monetary sense, like how the cnet umbrella (which includes websites like Gamespot) were bought for almost $2 billion in 2008 and 12 years later were sold off for $500 million. You don't lose 75% of your value when your opinion is considered something people care about.
The same can be talked about Rimworld ( a colony management sim) It's 97% positive on steam and on PC Gamer? 74 % . I mean it isn't that big of a difference, but it's still a noticable one
Really wish the game would have prioritized healing when you absorbed Animus, instead of draw animus, then spend animus energy, not deal breaking and I still really liked the game when I got it way back then, but still, If I had the money/talent/time to create a Spiritual Successor to Legendary or if someone out there is working on one, I feel like adding the ability to heal damage while draining animus pools would be a decent quality of life improvement.
I remember I had gotten a game demo for this from the Xbox magazine when I was a kid and was super excited by it but quickly forgot about it because I got hyped up for halo 3 ODST.
Played this game recently cuz i watched the video. I like the way they made "arenas" to fight with new more powerfull monsters and the harder they were the better weapons you had. Progress was good and the gameplay fun till that elevator..... (If anyone cares you can go to the game files and bind a key to "Ghost" and another to "Walk" so you can fly to the next checkpoint and finish the game)
It was cool, when I was still hunting achievements it was an pain getting kills in ranked matches with no online players. .. But got it through boosting sessions
For me, I enjoyed watching my older Brother play "Legendary" when I was little. I still keep talking to him about that game from time to time. Sadly I never really played it myself (I was too bad, and kept dying over and over again!!) But now that I see the game, it doesn't really feel appealing to me. And I don't think that I'll ever play it. But the Memories are really nice, and I would like to keep them this way.
i remember playing this game and liking it, it wasn't anything that MADE my childhood but i do remember picking it up because the theme was interesting, and it was a good game like you say, I was so surprised years later hearing how badly received it was.
I used to sit in Legendary's menu just listening for 10 minutes before getting back into playing. I miss standout little games like Legendary, Dark Void and Singularity.
I remember playing this game on a demo disc for the Xbox 360. From what I could remember, it wasn't bad at all! _But then again, I was still a kid back in those days._
Just looking at the best selling games of 2009 tells you a bit... Top of the pile is cod MW2. Then a metric TON of Wii games. This ain't either, so it tanked. Given the current focus on linear, story-driven games, this could be a good candidate for revival, though. I mean, I'd love something like Brutal Legend or Giants : Citizen Kabuto where the FPS becomes an RTS for a while (given the ending cutscene), but they NEVER sell well.
Man I always thought the same thing I beat this game wit my pops back in the day n nvr understood why nobody played it or it had such a bad stigma around it.
lengendary, clash of the titans, turok, prototype and risen was the best games i have rented of the xbox 360 back in the day, these games still look great for me till this day.
The first thing you hear about something has a huge effect on how you perceive it. If you hear a ton of negative reviews about this game, you’ll expect it to be worse and have a much worse experience with it when you play it yourself. I have fond memories of this game tho. I remember the golem made of modern things like cars and concrete smashing through the city was really cool.
