@StudioBinder made a video about "What is Anamorphic vs Spherical" a week ago. It was full of issues, and here's a correction to all of it! I am in touch with StudioBinder to address the issues in their video (copyright and content) and make everything right.

UPDATE: I'm talking to StudioBinder about correcting their video and making sure their future content doesn't repeat past mistakes regarding copyright and fair use - or anamorphics, for that matter. I want to believe people can be better so I'm giving this a shot. :)

Just a little imput. The scene from the motorcycles are from john wick 3, not 2. For the next, im not 100% sure of this, since i just heard it. But as i know, they used anamorphic lenses on that scene and even intensified the flares with a schneider true-streak filter. Still, amazing content, thanks for the knowledge and keep doing what you do, really enjoy your content 🔥
@AnamorphicOnABudget

Thank you for the correction. John Wick 2 and 3 were both shot with Master Anamorphics, and used ARRI's streak attachment to boost flares (Master Anamorphics don't flares at all).

Hi. First, great video, so clear and concise. Second, I watched the StudioBinder video earlier today and had issues with it as well and though I have experience with lenses from years with film photography I recently started reading up on anamorphic lenses. Funny.. this was one of the 1st anamorphic videos I watched. .. so in definition, Oxford says anamorphic - "denoting or relating to a distorted projection or drawing that appears normal when viewed from a particular point".. so I found your comments on distortion different.. is an anamorphic lens technically distorted until the image is desqueezed? Or is that not what they meant in their vid?

Nice work clapping back Tito, I'm actually surprised the video was taken down relatively quickly haha. It really bugged me that there was a lot of good production value in their video with the graphics, editing, and VO, but that they made so many 'generalizations' and relatively untrue statements (and I'm not even an anamorphic specialist). And of course the amount of footage they pulled from other content creators without credit was genuinely alarming. They seem a good company overall and I'm not sure who's managing their YT content; but this seemed like an obvious case of them taking advantage of the fact that most of the clips they were yoinking were from smaller creators, so that they could just get away with it. Here's to all the supporters who made noise in that comment section 🙌 Hopefully these misconception response videos won't be a regular thing, but after this, I wouldn't be surprised!

Speaking on the flares: I actually prefer a more controlled flare, at least for narrative or commercial work. I never want the lens style to overwhelm the art, lighting or performances. Music videos are a different story, but for most work I prefer muted flares. That’s why my custom anamorphics use Isco Ultra Star Reds

Hi! New subscriber! I have tried to find videos of someone actually focusing a nanamophic lens but I can't seem to find one...., strange. This would be a logical step for me. I recently bought a 35 NAP 80-110mm (waiting for it to arrive in the mail). I am willing to accept the limitations of this lens but I wonder why nobody has a video, one shot of the focusing and one of the image being captured. Another point: don't some camera bodies compensate for native lenses for distortion, focus falloff, etc?

Look this one up:ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yneSk9wdJWw.html As for camera compensation, that only works for native spherical lenses. I haven't used one of those in years.

Very informative but you obviously have no idea how fair use works. Their work was transformative and not an alternative for your video. You can’t just claim an entire video because you’re mad that they didn’t give you credit for the couple shots they used.
@AnamorphicOnABudget
@AnamorphicOnABudget 2 года назад
RU-vid would beg to differ as they accepted the copyright claim and took the video down. The most recent video they have on the subject is result of a collaboration between us, where we ironed out all the bad concepts they had in the first video. They were using a lot of my material as just "illustration" to their own (erroneous) concepts. Is that fair use?
@trendsweater2273
@trendsweater2273 2 года назад
@@AnamorphicOnABudget RU-vid is not an arbitrator nor will they litigate or mediate on your behalf. That is what court is for. Refer to Ethan Klein's first fair use suit and tell me how your situation differs. RU-vid is starting to not entertain copyright claims unless you prove that this is being taken to court within 10 days. I feel your frustration but I'm just saying it would go nowhere in the legal system. It's a good thing that StudioBinder was cooperative and understanding. Legally, they didn't have to do anything.
