A blend of indian, north african, east asian, and brazilian musical influences. That fits within the game and the lore and i like the ethnical blending
@@charakiga the song features latin rythms, particularly those with Timbales which are strongly associated with brazilian music, and also features a Kanun, which i recognise as being part of the middle east instrument pack for Kontakt by Native Instruments themselves
A little thing I noticed early is that Shiver and Frye sound like they're out of breath. If you played the story mode or paid attention, Shiver is a shark tamer and Frye is a Eel charmer, both alongside Big Man are treasure hunters who do singing as a side thing, compared to Callie and Marie who basically spent their whole lives singing, Pearl who had some experience before, and Marina was an upcoming DJ so she had some practice beforehand.
Funny thing. "Deep Cut" apparently is a musical term used to describe an outlier in an artist's filmography. This can be described as a Deep Cut too as it definitely takes more Traditional Asian roots in its music.
I know they did the same thing with one of the bands in Splatoon 2. Disspair, since in Japan a "Diss pair" is two foods that normally taste great, but horrible together. Like chocolate and chicken. Most of their names are puns or wordplay like that.
I mean if I took it over say by 2030 I could do such thing and this is in no means a lie I indeed been thinking of taking over the USA to improve the world as a whole many ways to do such
In some cities there are culture festivals put on. I know in my city ever since I was young we had at least an International Festival but then also festivals to other cultures like Japan. I went to my city's Japanese festival a lot when I was a young teen. My favorite memory was hearing Taiko Drumming echoing through the grounds while playing children's games. Such a vibe! Look into your city or nearest city and see if they have festivals or events like that. You could always try setting up your own festivals/events (if you are old enough) or maybe just have your own splatfest. Use water guns with food coloring colored water, play with friends and blast splatfest music. 😊
Ik she's intended to be like an Indian/S. Asia rep, but the way Frye sings in her part kinda sounds like how Thai poetry is read and that's why I love it so much.
Well, Thai poetry singing, thamnong sano, emerged out of the Ayutthaya Kingdom in the 14th century or so during a period when it was a dominant naval and trading power and a lot of cultural exchange happened between it and the Indian subcontinent. I don't have evidence for this, but I think it's a reasonable guess that it might have been influenced by South Asian poetry and singing styles at the time. After all, culture is never static, it's a fluid blend that is inspired by and fused with the world around it. Even this song is a testament to that. In our globalized world, we have a group of Japanese composers pulling from Indian Ragas, Brazilian Samba, and fusing them with traditional Japanese Enka and Jpop music, among other influences. Music is a rainbow.
Interesting note because I love stupid details like this!!! Ok so with earbuds and headphones you can make different sounds come from different ears, and in all squid sisters songs Callie is sung in the left ear and marie is sung in the right ear so it sounds like they are separated and singing to you specifically. Meanwhile, from what I can tell in this song, Deep Cut is positioned in front of you, not just ambiently in the ears but specifically in front of you. Plus, Shiver and Frye are still in different places, left and right respectively, as well as big man in the center. All the sounds are coming from around the same area, in front of you. AND THAT PARALLELS THEIR LOCATIONS ON THE SPLATFEST BOAT THING All of them in roughly the same place but discernably to the left and right, and Big Man in the center! THAT IS SO AMAZING And actually another thing! The way they are positioned being in front of you contrasts from the squid sisters singing to YOU and instead implies they're singing to a CROWD LIKE A FESTIVAL
Brooo if they make another splatoon I really wanna see what they'd do with Irish/scottish music mixed in, or even native american, if that was added I feel like it would be an even bigger bop-
they actually have made some celtic inspired songs with a group in Splatoon two! the in universe band is called “bottom feeders”, the music is really good and it mixes the traditional music with a sort of punk rock style :]
I feel like salmon run works well with its salish, haidan inspired formline throughout the stages. So there's some native american/ northwest pacific indigenous art in the game already that's been there for a while. But seeing it in a music direction would be interesting
Callie and marie represent Japanese j-pop idols. Pearl represents Rap idols, Marina represents DJ singers, Shiver traditional japanese women, Big Man traditional Japanese man, and frye represents idian and brazilian idols I LOVE DEEP CUT AAAAA🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
I think Big Man's appearance is based on a Japanese happi coat. Also, his hat and the string under the nose are the same as the Awa Odori and otoko odori. Sorry for my poor English.
I hate to make it about myself, but I hope one day we get a native idol because they seem to do AMAZING representation in a silly little squid game, so it’d be nice to finally have a well-written native character! I’m also in love with Frye’s character because they didn’t cheap out, plus made her nice and dark! Her outfit is casual, yet represents her culture. I love this damn game.
@@Thatcooldude_King Oh ok thanks! That would be very cool! I want an Idol for every country now X) especially the one who get not a lot or bad rep. Every cultures deserve to be seen, they are all so interesting and beautiful ! I wish I knew them all -_-
Best part of this song is the fact that when you're watching the Splatcast, all you get is the drums. But then when its ending it ramps up and breaks out into the full song. Its like they actually paused the music to go give an update, then right after leaving BOOM start right back up. Bombastic as can be
somthing i learned recently is that a good amount of people of japanese background migrate to brazil, so the harmony makes sense on a whole other level, just somthing i thought id share, hmu if incorrect, but cant deny this sounds awesome!
Toyota built a huge car plant there, there’s even a Toyota City. Japanese workers and their families immigrated for the work opportunities. That’s also why Super Sentai and anime got popular there
Something I noticed that may or may have not been intentional is that on 1:23 when Shiver and Frye do their lil interlude part, it sounds like the Moroccan word for “come on”/“lets go” (‘Yella’) I think it fits in and that makes me love this song a lil more
The lyrics are jus gibberish, though I don't know if this one is derived from Japanese or another language. Pareidolia, however, is strong. Your brain is essentially a pattern-recognizing machine, one that has had far less pressure to remove false positives than it had to avoid false negatives, so often we perceive patterns where they aren't.
They totally do, every Splatoon song has official lyrics. You can find most of them online with a little bit of digging. It's just not in any language.
That's the point of the entire soundtrack - it's a proof of concept that lyrics don't need to have any meaning for you to enjoy the song. Some people say that listening to music in languages they don't understand can enhance the experience and this OST is a perfect example of it.
I really love Rainbow Anarchy, both because it so wonderfully represents and combines elements of the Japanese, Indian and Brazilian cultures the idols represent, but also because it really conveys what kind of characters Deep Cut are! Unlike a lot of media representations of chaos, where it's all dark and edgy and Super Serious tm, Deep Cut's performance is nothing but pure, exuberant joy and expression of self. It's a celebration of themselves and of the place where they live, and it's so bright and bold that the song itself feels alive. And I absolutely adore it! Frye, Shiver and Big Man are probably my favourites out of all the idols, because of their character designs, the roles they play in the story, and their personalities. They're intelligent and creative, picking up Idol work on the side to supplement their treasure hunting work and it shows in the song. Fast paced and hectic, but able to perfectly combine and overlay three very different parts.
I’m pretty sure it is since shiver and big man’s designs represent Japanese women and men, while Frye represents Brazilian/Indian idols (This is what I heard from a separate comment anyways)
This is my favorite Splatfest song yet. It’s so well put together yet at the same time messy and chaotic. It sounds like a true celebration and people just having a good time.
An Anarchy Rainbow of different music types indeed. Love the transition from the north African music to Japanese and then to Brazilian music. I almost never commend a Nintendo game but i like good music so credit where credit is due.
I'm not a Splatoon player or fan, but seeing Shiver for the first time made me so happy. It's weird, but as someone who is Japanese, I've always felt like our media tends to stray away from portraying us small eyes, and especially with monolids. Shiver has thin eyes and monolids, which a lot of East Asians have, and it's something I hope we get to see more more in our media.
@woooooooooooooooooooooooo it's the reason a lot of east asians' upper eyelids appear smoother rather than having that sort of crease most other people have
really never thought id warm up to this song, yet alone the idols, but i did. and so quickly too. they are so fun and such delightful characters. really a judging far too early case for me.
same, i saw them in the direct and was a bit disappointed, but now they're some of my favorite characters from anything and this is one of my favorite songs
I swear, every time I go a little while without listening to this song, I'm always like "huh, it's been a while since I heard it. Now that the novelty's worn off, it can't really be as good as I remember, right?" And then I actually play it again and I find myself instantly jamming in my seat!! That beat, that melody, that bass line! It really IS that good, no matter how many times you listen!!! Splatoon 3's ost is just SO bangin'
Humans wished to return to Earth and bring it back the way it was before the flood. Well, the humans still died, but based on what we've seen on all three games, their wish did technically come true. The cultures throughout Earth persevered through the Inklings and Octolings, and it SHOWS in this game.
I'm from chile, and in 0:49 I hear: "Aleluya esto es un ritmo, donde todos podrán bailar" "Hallelujah this is a rythm, where everyone can dance" Which makes sense to me, and now I can't unhear it... I know it's just gibberish, but it's curious nonetheless
fanmade lyrics by me :3 Colorful, colorful, full of color in a world with no hues "Cover up, cover up" they say; "nobody can know the real you" (Move your fins, let's go, go! Bring it all in, let's go, go!) No don't hide, don't try and lie to me 'cause you shine, so bright, you'd stun everybody Forget all the rules, 'cause here we can be free; It's a party, baby, and it's anarchy! Be the bang in a world of silence, 'cause that's what being free's about If the world is a mass of greyness, be the rainbow that's standing out Be the bang in a world of silence, 'cause that's what being free's about If the world is a mass of greyness be the rainbow that's standing out Na na, na na na na, na na na
Why do people dislike Deep Cut? The designs are soo unique and colorful, and especially the amount of personality they have. Shiver has a more mysterious and cold personality, Frye is energetic and loud, and Big Man is just the lil baby boy we all need :) I like how representing Nintendo made these characters, and not in an unsuccessful way (Like when they go out and make all the characters gay or black or white or tan or something). Shiver really represents Japan great, Frye is just so GREATLY MADE INDIAN/AFRICAN/SOUTH AMERICAN, and Big Man, idk, he's just Big Man in a GREAT way, and I love Deep Cut for that!
when the chorus kicked in my brain immediately thought "what if i did the friday the 13th game california girls dance to this" AND IT FUCKING WORKS???????
I MADE LYRICS FOR THE CHORUS, TELL ME IF THEY'RE GOOD (oh and it's not based on the actual voice.) So go and dance to the beat, the rhythm, Make up every move as you go! Move your arms, take a step and breathe in, Then continue with what you know! Go and dance to the beat, the rhythm, We'll keep up the beat and the flow! When we move and step all together We form an Anarchy Rainbow!
lyrics with translation: Shiver: Yuhana Yuhana You hang on while you wade water (Big Man: Oh, yeah!) Should I go? Should I go? Should I have to make a tsunami? Big Man: Co-co-comigo-go, vem co-comigo! Frye: You and I are the lightning Tum jale mujhe, you call me back Open wide, oh, the party is here Gather all around and jump on in! All together: Have you heard of a place of wonder So, you're off on your own, na na Hallelujah, a taste of heaven You're all running around, na na Have you heard of a place of rainbows So you'll go on your own, na na Hallelujah, la tres forever You're all coming in time, na na! ================== TRANSLATIONS Yuhana「湯花」- "Excitement bubbling like water boiling over" | Japanese Vem comigo - "Come with me" | Portuguese Tum jale mujhe - "You burn me" | Hindi La tres - "The three" | Spanish (I know it should be "los tres" whoops)
I hear "I remember that we're so free now". I have a feeling this song is about being free and being together which makes me think about when the Inklings and Octolings reunited and they got along with each other and forgot about their pasts 0:46
...Huh. Just occurred to me, did we get an 'untamed badlands' styled setting and " _Anarchy_ Rainbow" because Chaos won the final Splatoon 2 Splatfest? (Like how Marie got the spotlight in 2's story after she won the first final Splatfest.) Would we have gotten more of a 'rebel in utopia/industrial sector/dictatorship' theme if Order won? (Shadowrun Squids, anyone?)
The 'rebel in dictatorship' route feels unlikely to me, since the entire vibe of the franchise is set on 'stay fresh' and a dictatorship's about the unfreshest thing there is, but most importantly, because instead of going plain edgy for Chaos, they chose a more positive 'cultural mashup' take on it. So they would've had to spin the concept of Order into something that still feels inherently *cool,* just like they did with Chaos.
@@3lH4ck3rC0mf0r7 'Dictatorship = unfresh' agreed, but that's where the 'rebel' part of it comes in. Persona 5, for example, is basically exactly that; a band of spunky rebels undermining would-be tyrants, and that game just oozes style. If I had to craft a Splatoon environment in that vein, my first thought is someplace where the Octarians actually have taken over and the surface is a big, sprawling, monotone (or sleek, hi-tech) corporate sector, maybe with 'Octavio is watching' posters. The player community would then be an inkling/defecting Octoling 'underground' (maybe even literally beneath the city) in the shape of an organized resistance, with the new batch of idols presented as a form of pirate radio. The story campaign could feature Octarians in business suits and a villain looking to stamp out the underground in favor of total control of the city/region. Second idea tosses the sinister aspect of Order out the window and plays up its positive aspects instead. Pokemon Sword and Shield turned its gyms into stadiums and its story into a giant tournament; picture a Splatoon where the player character is treated as an up-and-coming athlete looking to join one of the bigtime sponsored teams (each with their own brands and styles to fulfill the 'freshness' expectation) that dominate the local culture. The new idols could perform in 'halftime shows' and maybe double as sports commentators. The story mode might involve something like looking into organized cheating or a darker plot in play by one of the 'major league' teams built into the setting.
@@3lH4ck3rC0mf0r7 Shrug. Either well-organized resistance army vs mega-corporation (one form of Order vs another form of Order) or well-organized professional leagues. It's not like the Splatoon 3 we got is total anarchy either; rough-and-tumble, sure, but Splatfests are still organized events rather than random rabble-rousing.
In the Splatoon lore Splatsville is canonically located right next to where Paris was. It could even be right where Paris was located cause the Eiffel tower could've been washed up by the great flood and pushed a couple thousand meters.
I’m scrolling through these comments and I love seeing all the different lyrics for this. Really goes to show how good this embodies a variety of different cultures
me, as a wee child: wth is splatoon??? sounds cool. me, like 6 months later: I WILL SELL MY SOUL AND LEFT LEG FOR THIS FRANCHISE, but i don’t have the games. me, after another 3 months: i… i am scarred. the internet is a cruel, merciless wasteland, and i will never revisit this again. me, like a year later: oh yeah, splatoon. wait… *_fuck._* me, a month after that: funky octo expansion, what is the en- HOLY SHIT THATS AWESOME??? me, forgetting about splatoon until the third released: oh crap, there’s another? me, after listening to this and the calamari inkantation 3mix: i am going to buy splatoon 2, cause what if i hate the game? me now: the fandom has me in its clutches, i have been ripped away from all that i love, all in favor of digital squids and their funky music. help.
