In this video we'll discuss the major anatomical features of the small and large intestines, describing the path that food will travel, as well as the major blood supply in the arteries and veins.
The main sections of the intestines are:
Duodenum
Jejunum
Ileum
Cecum
Ascending Colon
Transverse Colon
Descending Colon
Rectum

Great video. I'm a bit confused by the way the intestines all seem to sit on the right side; what is filling up the space on the left? Why is the anus on the left rather than centered? Thanks so much.

Hi Gwen, Regarding the L and R directions, they're important to highlight where the GI tract crosses the median plane. So, for example, it's not to say that the anus is on the left, but that the digesta moved from R --> L in the transverse colon before arriving at the anal canal. Then, drifting back to center where we see the anus. Hopefully that helps!
