To be honest, this was not the first time I’ve had dreams of her. Shortly after she passed, which was about 8 years ago now, I had another vivid dream of her. I looking at her side profile and she was smiling and looking into the distance with his pink and orange glow around her. She kept repeating that she’s fine and for me not to feel sad. I’m going to do some more research.

It's ok that you only give them prayers... they don't want to take what you can't give and then don't have for you and your family. Prayers, a glass of cool water filled to the top. is enough. The trash is just fine. Base of trees is to give back to the earth directly through the tree roots but also big trees are old spirits. Old dishes are best to use but buying them new ones is ok. Follow your intuition.

Deep condolences on the passing of your father... How wonderful for you to think to do this for your father during this sacred time. Beautiful. In my spiritual learning, a recently deceased ancestor is not called upon soon after death. It is believed there is a period of transition that must take place and how long it takes depends on the person. However, you can light candles and say prayers to uplift and ensure their transition is going well. However, if you want to go ahead and provide him with a food offering, simply have an altar prepared and when placing the food on the altar, call his full name 3 times out loud. Then say "this is for my father (name) and also for all my benevolent ancestors." Then you can proceed with talking to him about the meal and anything else on your mind you wish to say. He can hear you. I always like to have a white candle lit. Please note this is from my personal experience and training and there are many, many ways and beliefs in this arena. Blessings to you on your Samhain celebration and on your journey!

Many people do weekly. You can start with that if it fits your schedule. Some people do a few times a week, others a few times a month. It is really based on you and your ancestors. If you're someone who appreciates adhering to a schedule weekly is probably best. Start there and as your ancestor reverence practice grows, they will guide you as to what they want. Sending you many blessings on your journey.

There is really no firm standard that I know of. My preference is, if I'm using a 7-day candle in a glass, I would leave it on for the 7 days (until it burns out). I always keep the candle inside of a bowl with water for fire safety reasons. If you're using a stick candle then you can snuff it out whenever you get ready.

First, there's no such thing as overfeeding your Ancestors in my humble opinion. 😁However, once per week is just fine. If you want to do more, every few days. The Ancestral realm is realm of the spirit where there is abundance. The food from you is love and energy from you that strengthens your bond and enables them to interact and intercede on your behalf more effectively. It's a ritual of bonding and honoring that helps to cut through the veil between this earthly realm and their realm.

The food is to be discarded by either leaving it out in nature (base of tree if possible) or in the trash. You can leave for a few hours, over night or until the food starts to decompose. Hope this helps!

A candle every time is not necessary. Whatever feels right in the moment. I don't always light a candle.

Salt runs bad spirits away. Not the good ones. I was taught to feed your ancestors as they lived in life. If you're under the guidance of an elder, follow their advice. However, I believe some people confuse the preparation of foods for the Orishas with how you feed ancestors. Orisha food is VERY specific, some Orisha take salt others don't and it's a matter of what they like and don't like. Not about being "run away"

A treasure box! That is nice and very different. Mobile altars are becoming more and more popular. Your ancestors are happy that you are honoring them the best way you can. That's all that matters. The ancient way (depending on where in the world) was to have an ancestor altar on the earth floor because people buried their family members near them in the earth. People didn't move around as frequently as we do now. But in modern times things are very different so we have to adapt. Blessings!

The Ancestral realm is everywhere. You can feed them where you are located. Your food offering plan sounds good. If you leave it at the crossroads I would ask the and thank the Guardian of the Crossroads to ensure it makes it to their realm. The crossroads is the domain of particular spirits. You can also leave the offering at the base of an old tree which is more of the arena of ancestral energy in my humble opinion. Say a prayer and call your Ancestors to receive the offering where you leave it.

It's always good to leave it out for a few hours at the very least. I leave mine for days. However, if you're concerned about attracting bugs, a few hours is good.

Yes. Any of your ancestors. If he has been deceased for.a while. If he's recently deceased, waiting at least 2 months is best.

To me it doesn’t mean they didn’t like it. It’s accepted but the fly also wanted some too! Lol. Ancestors work with nature and are in harmony with whatever critters, and insects also want to partake or end up in it.

Families are connected by not only blood but spirit. The connection transcends time and space.

The ancestors like the food they liked when they were still on this earth. If there are particular dishes your family eats, make that for them. If you don’t know, then give them what you like and wait for signs. Sometimes you’ll start to crave out of the blue or you star wanting foods from your childhood you haven’t eaten in a while. They are usually easy to please. I hope this helps!

That is something that I have not done before. I usually leave it open as if I was serving a family member visiting. But, they are your ancestors and if there is a reason you feel you need to cover it, then that is between you and them. Let them know that you are providing this food covered because..."xyz". They understand. Blessings!

I hope you're feeling better since you posted this. Your Ancestors do not want to hurt you or make you feel ill. Their duty to you is love, protection, help and healing. Not saying they won't give "tough love" when needed... but to make you sick? No. I would look deeper into what's going on. Is it a physical ailment, or a spiritual ailment?

One plate for all ancestors is good. We each have thousands of ancestors. Things work differently in the spiritual realm. They will ensure the energy of the food is used properly.

In my experience you season the food how they would eat it when they were alive. My dad especially would not like food with no salt! Lol. I believe some people are confusing how you prepare the food for Orisha which many don’t take salt. Also people are confusing how you banish and protect against negative spirits with salt… We are not dealing with those type of spirits. We are giving homage and reverence to elevated ancestors. Not the same.

When feeding food to ancestors you are feeding them as if they are physically sitting at your table. So I don’t think plastic over it is the way to go. However, if there is a reason you cannot keep food out in the open, let them know and they will understand.

Some people push a little of their food to the side of their plate and dedicate it to their ancestors or put some from your plate to a small plate for them. In Lucumi-Orisha we don't put a table setting for them with us. You can leave a full plate in the kitchen for them separate from where you are. It also good to have dedicated plates, bowls, etc. for your ancestors use only.

I can only speak on ancestors… they like it all. Main, sweets, beverages. If you know foods that they liked when they were alive, I would prioritize that. But any good food is appreciated by them.
