I found my sister on ANCESTRY which led to me finding my mother and a brother. I’ve looked for over 45 years for anything on my real family. Also my sister was lied to about who her real father was. Also, a friend of mine, found out that her dad wasn’t really her dad, she discovered three brothers. DNA doesn’t lie. Now some cold cases are being reopened and criminals are being caught with DNA left behind. Innocent people are being let out of jail. Thank God for DNA!!

@Laura Z. that’s kind of messed up. You’re against adopting someone who needs a family because they don’t think like “I don’t want to hurt my parents feelings so I’m not gonna try to learn about my bloodline”
@KV-on3ht

@Lee B. Then, the decision (for you) not to adopt is one of THE wisest decisions for incredibly selfish people like you, to make. And who's to say that someone in your lineage wasn't adopted.. certainly not you, if so, you wouldn't be trying to learn more about ancestral DNA on RU-vid and then commenting about it.

Something to add is that if you keep your DNA on the 23andMe Database they will send you emails for whatever new feature they add. For example, when I took the test the neanderthal thing wasn't a feature yet and then when it became one they sent me my results for that. So you get a lot more bang for your buck on 23andme

Rarely does one see such an intelligent totally unbiased comparison. Most of the time when someone is comparing and evaluating two things, even if they give the pros and cons of each, will still state or imply which one they have an overall better impression of. Unlike most she managed to avoid that. She could do this for a living because after this one video I'd be more inclined to trust her comparisons of other things.

How so Erika? I got my results today and they are very vague about exact areas. My grandmother and her family came here from Portugal, according to the results, no mention of Portugal in my report. Big deal I am 98% European. The results they sent me were not specific at all. This is from Ancestry. Certainly not the results they show on their TV ads. So I am 55% Great Britain, 20% Ireland, 12% Greek/Italian. What about the other 13%. Certainly would not recommend paying for this test. Guessing most "white" Americans are of European mix.

As a documentary, you'll have professionals that can help you solve this mystery. On a serious note, i'm so glad that your mother survived. Ravyn Liam is your mother involved with the police, FBI, etc? They would have all the information and could help her locate her birth parents whom I'm sure filed kidnapping reports. Just because the family is in cover-up mode doesn't mean your mom has to be. It's her life and she deserves to know who she is and where she came from.

What I like about Ancestry is through the years they have updated my dna results four times,narrowing it down more and more each time. As more and more ppl around the world continue to take these tests and add to the data base the dna pool is bigger and bigger and somehow they’re able to get more and more precise percentages and stuff. I also like that they visually show you with a video the most likely path your ancestors traveled to get to the country you were born in.

Excellent videos/comparisons! Well done! I had already done mine through 23 and Me -before the recent legal issues, so I had literally hundreds of pages of information sent to me. It's worth noting that the FDA required them to cut back on the information they provided as it hadn't been fully "proven" -but since then they have added nearly everything back after having met the standards of proof required. It's also worth noting that they continue to update and refine their results. When I visit the site today I get more details than I originally got a few years ago. I will add one thing -My DNA test showed a very high propensity for colon cancer. At 49, my first colonoscopy was at least a year away -but my doctor used the DNA results to get my insurance company to agree to doing the test early. The result was the removal of 9 cancerous polyps, very likely saving my life. If I had waited until 54-55 that would have been advanced colon cancer. Clean bill of health now. It just goes to show how important this genetic information can be. No one in my family had ever been diagnosed with colon cancer, so I might easily have put off the screening... Knowing your DNA is powerful!

I really liked your video. It was informative and straight to the point, unlike so many that I've seen where people just rattle on to hear themselves talk. Now - I took the Ancestry DNA test to find out how much Native American I had in my DNA from my fathers side. To my surprise I found out that the man that raised me, who I called dad all my life, was not my biological father. Both my parents are deceased so I had my siblings tested and it was confirmed that I am half siblings with all of them and they are full siblings with each other. We share the same relatives that I know are from my mothers side but they don't share other relatives with me. The most major surprise is that I found out that I am biracial. I have European second cousins that my siblings don't have. I decided to also take the 23andme DNA test to see if perhaps I can find another half sibling on my biological fathers side and maybe find out who he was. I'm not sure if he is still alive as I am in my 50's. I am still coming to terms with the fact that my life has pretty much been a lie and I'm a bastard. Maybe I'll change my last name to Snow!

Thanks for replying. I just got my 23 and me results back and it only further confirmed that I am 54% European, 45% African, 1% Asian. Sadly I had no matches closer than a third cousin. I'm going to try reaching out to the second cousins on Ancestry and hope that they will be receptive. I don't want anything other than to know who my real biological father was or is (if he is somehow still alive). I didn't pay much attention to the disclaimer since I had no reason to believe anything other than what I thought was real. Now I'm a little frustrated but glad to know the truth. Peace and Light

bAldO Bori I wish I would have read this comment before I went with 23andme. It also said Asian, which I already knew, but it just gave a few general countries. I wish it would have been more specific.

I chose ancestry in hopes of someone on my father's side locating me. At 58 I had never met my father, or anyone connected to him. After 5 years suddenly I had a hit. A person claiming to be my cousin contacted me. It turned out she was actually a half-sister. I now have two half-sisters on my father's side to love. It has been glorious to discover a whole new family to cherish.

Sure, that was one the best things for me about working on yachts. I probably visited over 75 countries, sometimes spending months in a one country. Traveling by a smaller vessel while working is a great way to learn about different people/cultures since one deals with a variety of authorities and one has to get parts and material ( and sometimes local people) to fix equipment of the yacht!. My 23andMe results showed that I was 99.9% European. Talk about white bread! Here's the cool thing though - the 0.1% non-European part was made up of a 100% West African ancestor and a 100% Japanese ancestor who were alive around 1710-1800. Amazing that someone so "white" could have full African and Japanese ancestors such a relatively short time ago. I really appreciated seeing that connection and realizing I wouldn't be here without them. It made me think that anyone charged with racial crimes should be forced to take a DNA test - it would so quickly destroy their ideology!
@AlisonRyce

😂 Oh man, you're so right about that. That reminds me of a Klansman that found out on television that he had African ancestors through DNA testing. He had absolutely nothing to say after that. We are all definitely family so I don't understand how anyone can hate someone else based on another's ethnicity. If any of our ancestors were taken from our family tree, we wouldn't be here so they were all important. Thanks for sharing your results! 🙂

@ashleygarton3186
@ashleygarton3186 6 лет назад
It is a race. American Indian is a race. When you have to fill out paperwork and see boxes to check for race...read a little. It says American Indian. That is what Native American means, not "born in America." I have a tribal card that shows I am Native American. Native as in tribe. American as in US.
@ashleygarton3186
@ashleygarton3186 6 лет назад
Yudah El maybe you should check your facts. My race is not made up. When the Europeans came, they named us Indians because they thought they were in India. At the time, were few African Americans in the country since the majority were brought over by the Europeans. The indigenous people are the Native Americans. My race, which is not made up. I have a tribal car with treaties I'm protected under written in Queen's English...one being the treaty of 1677. "The ancestors of modern Native Americans arrived in what is now the United States at least 15,000 years ago, possibly much earlier." So tell me again how African Americans were here first and my race is made up?
@yudahel8521
@yudahel8521 6 лет назад
Ashley Garton I'm sorry u misunderstood, I told you that Indian means Black right, you said the Europeans called my ancestors Indian in 1492 because they thought they were in India right??? U do know that India wasn't founded/called India until 1946 right? So how could they call us a country that wasn't even named or called by the term??? So let's break down the term Indian. Indian comes from the Sanskirt word sindhu, which was later translated to Hindu, then translated to Indus now there's India/Indian. I know it's not easy to accept but its the truth. Have you ever heard of eugenics, selective breeding and/or assimilations? Well ever person we call native American ancestors went thru it all. The Caucasoid dna in them all is paternal, which means it was white men who impregnated Mongoloid women who we now call na, not the Mongoloid man sleeping with white women. 15,000 years? Lol, u do know there's thousands of scientists and archeologists who says it's impossible that y'all came across the beeriimg strait but in fact had to be brought here. Native American is not a natural race , there's no such thing as a full blood person we call native American.

Normally I 100% decline to do public RU-vid comments. You are no small-time RU-vid personality, with over four thousand comments. The cinematography is excellent. You use your own family members as your case study. You use your boyfriend with the cool layover effect. You give a needed overview and judgment call which is best for what. As I mentioned in another post, I did the Ancestry DNA. I already found some cousins and some whom I went to school with, and even graduated with!! Also one of my 1st cousin (once removed) contacted me because of her DNA test and her Father and my Grandmother were siblings. I did not know this and we are both very excited and cannot wait to meet. She knows my grandmother, biological father and my aunts very well. I never met my father until I searched for him (for years since I was 12), found him and then for my birthday, one of my brothers decided to go to Texas and bring him back to live with him. I was 40 years old. I will now be doing the 123&me thanks to my other brother (his twin). He is curious to see the difference...or match...to my other DNA test...Plus the extras you get with 123&Me. I got a 23andMe test for my birthday, and because of it, was able to find the side of my dad's paternal family I never knew. I met one of my new found cousins, and I found our where I get features that nobody else in the family that I already knew have. It literally changed my life.

Absolutely brilliant, thank you so much! My husband recently got me the 23andMe full package, I think. But I’d really like more details on countries as well, so I think I’ll also do the Ancestry one as well. I think it’s so wonderful that in this time in human history, we are able to see the past that brought us all here today. Roads travelled across different continents... how beautiful is that? 🥰🥰🥰

Yes, it's definitely a beautiful thing! I was so happy when I saw my results. To think that we can see all the places worldwide that made us who we are today is just amazing! Thanks for watching!!

Wow. This was smart of you guys to go with both companies. I just collected my 23 and me saliva sample 1/2 hr ago. My mom is past away so I plan to test my dad and his sister both companies. I did ancestry a few months ago and I am very happy about the results. I also uploaded my results to Gedmatch, geni, family tree Dona and my heritage. Wiki is also a great way to find matches trees.

Destiny or not, I always wanted to make one of these tests, since I learn from them. And I have personal reasons too. Yesterday it came in my mind again, I jumped on youtube, click on your video, very well explained video. I bought the test awhile watching your video, yesterday. I am very excited. Thank you again. 💗 I will be posting my results on youtube too. ❤🎬

Thanks for the information. I have tested myself and several members of my family through Ancestry. I'm interested in family history, so being able to build a tree was very important to me. (The health stuff offered by 23andme is stuff I'd rather not know anyway.) I've gotten pretty good at finding out how I'm connected to my matches on Ancestry. My cousin, who is adopted, took the 23andme test, and we're waiting for her results. I decided to take the 23andme test as well (the $99 was on sale for $69) so I can better be able to help her understand her results. I also sent her an Ancestry DNA test. One thing you didn't mention, that has been a major gripe on Ancestry is that Ancestry doesn't have a chromosome browser, but I think 23andme does? Gedmatch is awesome as well. That's were I have been going when I want a chromosome browser. You did a great job on the video.

Thanks so much for adding that great piece of information! Thanks for also sharing your DNA strategy. I'm sure that it will help someone else who is still trying to decide which path to take between the two tests.

I didn't come to this video with high expectations, as I know nothing about you and RU-vid lets anybody offer content. I was very pleasantly surprised. Your analysis is clear, fair and nicely expressed. Thank you for this excellent report.

Thanks for the presentation, I didn't watch 'til the end (need to go to work, will be back later😃) but the music wasn't intrusive, you got straight to the point of what you were explaining and none of that "...hit the like button..." talk at the beginning. Keep up the good work.

Beautifully done! Thank you for taking such great care in researching all that is available with each company and for sharing some of your personal and family results. It really did help with understanding the specifics of what Ancestry and 23 both offer. I will certainly be recommending this video to others. I am still undecided and will most likely go with both. And, you are beautiful!

I realize this is an older video, but since I have used both companies I thought I'd share my opinions. I did the AncestryDNA kit first and I their site for family tree building! Before there most recent update, it had me at 86% English, 9% Irish, 3% Iberian and 2% northwestern Europe. After the update, it's now 80% English and 20% Irish. I feel this is a little too.....unmixed? Too concentrated, maybe? I'm not sure there's a word for my thoughts on this. I get that genetics are random and you inherit different amounts from both of your parents. But I have Swedish ancestors not so far back and French farther back. Not reported even .1%. This is the reason I took 23AndMe's test. MUCH more of a breakdown into different countries and regions. There is some percentage of Southern Europe reported, which looking at photos of two of my more recent ancestors makes a little bit of since with their dark hair, eyes and more prominent noses. Also .7% Nigerian (I do have a lot of family from the south but no history of slave ownership thankfully) and .1% Korean with their latest update was reported. I truly have no knowledge of anyone in my family with these ethnicities but as they are such a small percentage, I didn't inherit much from them and they could be just so far back in the tree for accurate records and possibly ancestor had an affair. All in all, I preferred 23AndMe as it broke things down much better.

Cool! Thanks so much for sharing your experience with the two!!!! The change AncestryDNA gave was a little nerve-wracking because it seemed like the world shifted and all my results were mixed up. I enjoyed your detailed breakdown of your 23andMe results; that's super cool. Thanks for taking your time to do that!

DNA doesn’t lie. Ever put together you might not be French or Swedish if it didn’t show up in any of your DNA? Also how else would .7% Nigerian be in your white DNA?

Very informative video! I looked at both about two years ago, but went for 23andme being interested in the haplogroups and traits, but lately I've been thinking about saving up for ancestry as well.
