How to: Anchoring a Jetski
Welcome back!
Just a quick video to explain what I found works for anchoring a jetski- both with safety and simplicity. I'm not talking about anchoring on a shoreline or very shallow water. What I mean is when you need to anchor in deeper waters and with moderate currents. Use this method for waters up to around 30m (100ft) or more if you're game!
If you need to get a anchor tether for your ski - or other essential jetski and fishing related products- get them here: www.jetfisher.com
International postage available. If your location is not listed, please send me an email for a postage or freight quote: info@jetfisher.com

The elastic bungy is a great idea to stop the front tether from flopping around...I have mine as long as is possible without being able to be sucked in, mainly so I can use the same tether for mooring etc...maybe I can adopt the idea in my setup, and if not, attach a separate extra mooring rope is the next best option.
@Jetcast
@Jetcast 2 года назад
Hi Peter, I use to have just a heavy bungee cord for the tether and it seemed to work ok too, but since I'm selling the ones in the video, I figured I should be using them and have recently swapped over! There are several ways to do it, but the main thing is to totally avoid having to run the engine when you have your anchor rope in the water. I've seen too many skis disabled completely by sucking up the anchor ropes. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@Jetcast You wouldn't be an agent for GC by any chance?....as I imagine it would be more economical to ship a few items at the same time, and then reship those heavier items locally....the front rod holder and extra tank make so much sense
@Jetcast
@Jetcast 2 года назад
@@mekuranda I’d like to, and of course know GC. But so far we haven’t been able to work it out. Freight is very expensive across the Tasman currently and DHL adding additional charges every month. It’s hard to make it economical

I tried to save money by using a 30 kilo anvil as an anchor. Works well, except it's a bugger to hoist back up.
@Jetcast
@Jetcast 10 месяцев назад
Gotta applaud your ingenuity! Money is money I guess but I find that I have very limited time on the water so I try to get what’s required to do the job and waste as little time as possible. I have worked out the missed opportunities that can occur are more costly than saving a few bucks!;) The bloody cost of fuel currently blows any savings I get elsewhere anyway! 😂

If the tide is going out or wind is offshore.anchoring from the front still leaves the ski facing the shore while the swell is pushing into the rear.say anchored off an offshore reef while surfing
@Jetcast
@Jetcast Год назад
Rare for us...normally wind and wind swell come from similar directions as we are not sitting in the surf zone, and when it doesn't and the wind gets too strong, it gets too rough for fishing- wind against tide/swell makes it extremely uncomfortable. The bigger issue is the problem of dragging the tail of the ski under and getting water forced into exhaust and engine. Recipe for breakdown -if not a sinking.

Good system, but I think you have to unwrap the rope off the arm, because the cable tie won’t break when you put pressure on it. You need to keep it on top of the arm, possibly with another tie in the second hole (maybe a lighter tie. Good luck and happy skiing.
@Jetcast
@Jetcast 2 года назад
Yes, you are right. After I shot the video I noticed that myself and have fixed it! I don't actually use an anchor much myself but carry it for safety reasons. But I use dual cable ties because I have busted a single one quite easily when in choppy water. The skis are quite heavy and have a lot of drag.

Thanks, great vid. What would you recommend for anchoring if reef fishing?
@Jetcast
@Jetcast Год назад
I’ve never really dropped an anchor on a reef except in a boat and they make specific anchors for that. You might be better off drift fishing or do what I do and use the PWC engine to “hover” over a spot . Thanks for watching !

Thanx Dude, But.... What size chain if only 1m - 1.5m ?
@Jetcast
@Jetcast Год назад
1" chain normally, but just gauge the weight vs the anchor weight. You want the chain to keep the anchor horizontal until it bites in. I don't know if there is much science to it though. Thanks for watching!
@brucebeattie1366
@brucebeattie1366 Год назад
How do you get it up if its stuck on the bottom?
@Jetcast
@Jetcast Год назад
Break the rear cable tie by yanking hard! Then the rope pulls the anchor from the head. If it’s still stuck it’s stuck! You’ll have to leave it I guess. But that’s not happened to me. Came close once as I put too heavy a cable tie on the rear point! Eventually it broke and came up but had a hunk of rock also wedged on the top of the anchor!

Do you find that the carabiner on the tether flaps around and scratches the hood at all?
@Jetcast
@Jetcast 2 года назад
Hi Jack, just store the carabiner in your glove box until you need it. It isn’t permanently attached, so simple enough just to hook on when required.
@jackthomas2478
@jackthomas2478 2 года назад
Ohh ok I see. The carabiner I already have has a closed loop hole on one end making it permanent. Sounds like it’ll be easier just grabbing a new one I think. Thanks mate

Are you fishing in a lake! It’s very unlikely I could hold my 300kg ski in any sort of current around here with a sand bottom to hold it.
